Scandal “Everything’s Coming Up Mellie” Recap

This week on Scandal, Mellie (Bellamy Young) needs some help with her image, so she decides to do a special interview so people can see her softer side. I thought this episode was really interesting because we got to see a lot of Mellie’s backstory and we even got to see her and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) when they were in love.

Quinn (Katie Lowes) is flirting with danger, with Huck’s (Guillermo Diaz) former colleague, Charlie (George Newbern).

Olivia (Kerry Washington) is still trying to end things with Fitz, but he just won’t give it up. She wears a beautiful Dior black and white wool coat. I found a great match on Asos for $101.63:

black and white coat

Olivia brings the team a new case, her mother. She wears a blue blouse – I found a similar Theory Toska Silk Top ($225):

theory blouseIn the meantime, we learn more about how Mellie and Fitz started their bumpy road to the White House and Quinn makes out with Charlie! (What is she thinking?!) I keep forgetting the Mellie was a lawyer before she was the First Lady, she had to give all of that up so Fitz could be president.

Cyrus (Jeff Perry) and Mellie are scheming to catch Sally Langston’s (Kate Burton) husband with his pants down by hiring a hooker to seduce him.

Olivia and team finally have a lead when they discover that someone was taken off of her mother’s plane before it left the tarmac. Olivia wears a grey wool blazer – I found this QMack blazer at Macy’s ($29.99):

grey blazerWe also learn how much Mellie really had to sacrifice, when Fitz’s father rapes her. I kept waiting for Fitz to save her, but he never did. When you look at everything with that perspective in mind, you really feel bad for Mellie, she has gone through so much and she is trapped in that relationship unable to leave and start over. Fitz does end up coming to her rescue in the interview, but that doesn’t make up for everything she has had to endure.

The team checks in with Olivia and has a lead, they are planning to meet with the lead later on, but Quinn ruins everything after Charlie tricks her into killing the lead. Now he is blackmailing her into doing his bidding.

Olivia wears a white blazer – this Kasper three-button blazer ($87.99) is similar:

white blazerDuring a White House event, Mellie and Cyrus’ hooker fails to entice Sally Langston’s husband, but after they see him flirting with James (Dan Bucatinsky) they realize that he might be more into men.

As the episode ends, we realize that Mellie got pregnant after Fitz’s father raped her and that Olivia’s mother is still alive.

Wow…that is a lot to take in.

What did you think about this week’s episode of Scandal? Do you feel differently about Mellie’s character? How far down the rabbit hole will Quinn go?

Scandal “Icarus” Recap

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is at a standstill. Who should she believe? Who should she trust? What job should she take? She decides to confront the problem head on my simply asking Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) what he knows about her mother’s death and if it is true that he was responsible. She wears the same Armani Collezioni Coat with a Stand Collar ($1197) from “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.” This Ellen Tracy Tweed Button Front Coat ($210) is a similar look for less: ellen tracy   She was not happy with Fitz’s response, so she decides to take on Josephine Marcus’ (Lisa Kudrow) campaign instead and help a woman get elected to the White House. Pope & Associates begin work on the campaign and have a lot of great insights as to how Marcus can win the election. You can see why she wins elections. Olivia wears a beautiful Giorgio Armani Degrade-Print Snap-Front Jacket ($1737). I found a similar look in this Antonio Melanie Pete Ombre Jacket ($179):

She is also carrying her staple Prada bag  – you can get the look for less with the Micheal Kors Selma Satchel ($358):

Pope & Associates need to raise cash to pay for Josephine’s campaign, which includes big media buys. This makes Marcus uncomfortable because she doesn’t want to be something she’s not. You would never figure that out though by the way she charms the pants off of the fat cats. Olivia wears a double breasted Prada jacket. I had a hard time finding a match for this, but I think this Tahari tweed jacket ($159.99) is perfect:

prada jacket

The problem is that the donors don’t believe that Marcus can win, so Olivia needs to secure a big interview that will change Marcus’ images and convince the donors that she can win.

This new revelation about her mother isn’t sitting well with Olivia. She needs answers and Fitz isn’t giving them so she attempts to ask her father about them. He does tell her that he didn’t give the order to shoot down the plane. Olivia wears a Donna Karan Cross Front Drape Sweater. I found this Wrap Tunic ($82) that is similar:

Pope & Associates tries to prepare Josephine for her upcoming interview. She doesn’t want to sling mud or pander to sexism in the interview, which is making things difficult. Olivia wears a white blazer and a grey shell. I found a Tahari blazer ($69.99) and this  9 & Co. Charmeuse top ($19.99) to recreate the look:

white blazer

Olivia and team do what they do best and trick Josephine into letting her temper show during the interview, so she can come across strong. She ends up doing a fantastic job. Olivia wears a navy blazer, I found this JCP blazer for $29.99:

In the meantime, Cyrus (Jeff Perry) is blackmailing Harrison (Columbus Short) to sabatoge Josephine’s campaign. He refuses and gets Huck (Guillermo Diaz) to help him with his problem instead. Quinn (Katies Lowes) is getting courted by B613, which is interesting. I’m not sure where that will lead.

Fitz can’t take Olivia’s rejection lying down so he decides to visit her and force the truth out of her. She eventually admits that her mother was on the plane that he shot down. And there you have it folks. The silver bullet to Olivia and Fitz’s relationship.

Scandal “More Cattle Less Bull” Recap

During Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) weekly dinner with her father, Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Jake (Scott Foley) are investigating his apartment. They seemed determined to bring Eli Pope (Joe Morton) down at all costs. Olivia wears a herringbone plaid blazer. I found a similar Calvin Klein blazer ($52.49): herringbone Back at the White House it is campaign manager season. Cyrus (Jeff Perry) and Mellie (Bellamy Young) are searching for a manager for Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Josephine Marcus (Lisa Kudrow) is looking for someone that can get her to the White House. Cyrus and Mellie strike out and Olivia lands a job with Marcus. Unfortunately, she has a big problem for Olivia to handle, she gave a baby up for adoption when she was a teenager. Olivia wears a white tweed Christian Dior blazer. I found a Rachel Zoe tweed jacket ($79.84) that is similar: tweed jacket Olivia sends the entire team to Montana to dig up dirt on Josephine and figuring out ways to make sure that dirt stays buried. One thing nobody counted on was the vice-president taking on both Josephine and Fitz to win the presidency. The team discovers that Josephine Marcus’ baby is actually her sister, Candy. Josephine wants to shield Candy from the media scrutiny and tries to get Olivia to fix it for her. Unfortunately, during the press conference she has to face the situation head on and admit that Candy is her daughter. It works out swimmingly for her, but she ends up firing Pope & Associates anyways.

Olivia wears a grey suit during her work with Josephine and carries her white Prada bag. I found an Evan-Picone Gray Suit Jacket ($59.98) that is similar:

grey jacket

I found a Micheal Kors Selma Satchel ($358) that is a great match for Olivia’s Prada Bag:

Fitz calls and cheers Olivia up, letting her vet his jokes for the White House correspondent’s dinner. Mellie overhears their conversation and realizes that she can’t get between them. Olivia decides to attend the dinner after all and takes Jake as her date. She wears a stunning Rubin Singer colorblock dress. I found a great look for less in this Anne Klein Colorblocked Strapless Gown ($328):

colorblock dress

Out of left field Mellie asks Olivia to come back on the campaign trail and continue her relationship with Fitz. When it rains it pours because Josie also offers Olivia her job back.

It all sounds like a dream come true for Olivia and she actually considers it until Jake and Huck come to see her and tell her that Fitz was the one that shot down her mother’s plane and is responsible for her death.

I think that effectively ends Olivia’s relationship with Fitz, but let’s be honest – it wasn’t really going to work out anyways. Now maybe she can finally move on.

What did you think about this week’s episode of Scandal? Is this the end of Fitz and Olivia?

Scandal “Say Hello to My Little Friend” Recap

This week on Scandal, Olivia (Kerry Washington) faces some hard truths about her father. She tries to stay in denial by asking Jake (Scott Foley) to leave her apartment, but deep down she knows the truth.

Pope & Associates have a new client, a senator who can’t keep it in his pants, which has led him to a murder trial that the gang has to help him out of. Olivia wears a white double-breasted Armani jacket. I found a Kasper blazer ($119) that gives you a similar look:

The team hits the ground running with a press conference outside of the senator’s trial. Olivia wears another one of her fabulous coats, a Ralph Lauren Black Label Coat. This Isaac Mizrahi Plaid Belted Trench (179.50) is similar:

The plot thickens when more girls are uncovered in the senator’s case. In the meantime, Mellie (Bellamy Young) insults the new female presidential candidate and Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Jake team up to take down command. It’s not going to be so easy to get the senator’s wife to forgive him if he is still being unfaithful. Olivia wears an Akris Wool Blend Jacquard Jacket ($3700). This Preston & York Savannah Plaid Jacket ($109) gives you a similar look for less:

The senator’s wife goes into hiding and its up to Olivia to get her back. She convinces her that even though her husband is scum, he’s not a killer and gets her to come back and testify. Olivia wears a Donna Karan Belted Kimono Jacket ($2495). I found two options that you could use to recreate this – a Liz Claiborne Peplum Jacket ($39) or a Denim & Co. Knit Jacket ($33) with this Nine West Leather Belt ($19.99):

UPDATE: I recently stumbled upon this Karma Ethel Jacket ($128) that I think is a perfect match for this look:

Jake and Huck are trying to convince Olivia that there is more than meets the eye with Project Remington and that the president is somehow involved. She at least listens to what they have to say this time. Olivia wears an olive silk shell, beige cardigan and a Long Classic Pearl and Crystal Necklace ($139). I found a charmeuse shell from Anne Klein ($39.99) and a Culture Phit Cardigan ($13.50):

To head into court, she throws on a white blazer and grabs her Prada bag. I found this Vince Camuto blazer ($150):

I found a Micheal Kors Selma Satchel ($358) that is a great match for Olivia’s Prada Bag:

pradaNow for the surprise twist at the end – we discover that the senator’s wife was the one that really killed the young woman, not the senator. Cyrus (Jeff Perry) also found some dirt on Josephine Marcus (Lisa Kudrow) – that she had a baby and gave it up for adoption. Olivia is starting to break down with all of the lies between her father and the president. I really hope she ends up with Jake – he seems to genuinely care about her, which is more than I can say for the president who just seems to keep messing with her.

The episode ends with Fitz confronting Eli (Joe Morton) about Project Remington.

Scandal “Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington” Recap

Olivia (Kerry Washington) is still reeling from Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) showing up on her doorstep, but that doesn’t stop her from taking a new client meeting in a fabulous coat. Olivia walks in the office wearing Donna Karan’s sold out double face cashmere coat. This Zara wraparound coat ($239) or this Ralph Lauren Plush Drape Front Coat ($295) are similar:

The team starts to realize that their new client isn’t everything she seems to be. Olivia wears a Giorgio Armani violet grey suit, Josie Natori shell, Gucci grey suede shoes, Ippolita necklace ($695)and a Movado Concerto watch ($2395) (IDs courtesy of Good Morning America).

For a full look for less you can try this Marled Twill Jacket from The Limited ($128) 9 & Co. Charmeuse top ($19.99), Kelsi Dagger Lizzy shoes ($29.99), black onyx necklace ($95) and the Coach Tristen watch ($278):

Olivia follows their new client and gets stuck in a hostage situation. The woman is in the midst of a government cover up as she is trying to find out the truth about her son. He was a hero, but because of other deep cover agents, she will never be able to learn the truth about what happened to him.

Olivia and team spend the day trying to find the truth for her as she holds Olivia hostage, but when Olivia finally gets Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) on the phone, he tells her she can’t tell the woman the truth to protect other agents. The woman simply cannot accept this and ends up becoming a terrorist herself.

This episode was hard to watch. There weren’t any winners in this situation, not to mention the fact that Huck (Guillermo Diaz) gets pressured by Olivia’s father to kill again.

At the end of the day, Olivia realizes that she didn’t get Jake back for free and that her father will always own Jake and Huck and can get to them at any time.

Scandal “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” Recap

This week’s episode starts with a flashback from five years ago. We see Olivia (Kerry Washington) getting off the subway and running into Huck (Guillermo Diaz) seemingly a weekly tradition between the two of them. She wears a double breasted coat from Stella McCartney ($1865). I found an Ellen Tracy Tweed Button Front Coat on sale for $140 that is similar:

stella coat

We discover that Olivia has a deal with her father (Joe Morton) to have dinner once a week in return for him paying her law school tuition. Olivia wears a charcoal sweater ($298) and cardigan ($398) from Brooks Brothers.  I found a similar cardigan set from Ann Taylor in battleship grey, the cardigan ($189) and the shell ($119) are both 100% cashmere:

After dinner, she gets mugged in the subway and Huck comes to her rescue and tells her to run. We flash to the present day and the president’s secret service agent slips Olivia a secret phone during her run to talk to the president. She wears a Lulu Lemon Forme Jacket in Twin Stripe ($108) and the Lulu Lemon Run: Inspire Crop II *Block-It Pocket ($92):

lululemon

Olivia tells the president that she is going to represent Jeannine (Samantha Sloyen) and come after the White House with everything she has. During the press conference Olivia wears the MaxMara Eliana Coat ($4,173). I still like the Michael Kors belted wrap coat ($158.40) as a look for less for this coat. I might be partial because I own this one myself.

wrap coatFlashing back again, we see Olivia confronting Huck at the subway to try to find out more about him. He tells her about B613 and that he was a trained assassin. It is really interesting watching her interact with her father and re-telling the mugging story to him. I think one of the more humorous parts is her telling him that she never had a taste for wine and him expanding her palette.  She wars another fun coat, a sold-out Burberry Prorsum coat. JCrew has a similar coat for $365 and Kenneth Cole has one on sale for $179.99:

Back in the present day, Olivia has a choice to make. Either she lets Jeannine Lock burn or B613 will never let Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) go. We also find out that Huck doesn’t know who Olivia’s father is when he meets him in the office. Olivia wears an Escada suit, Armani draped blouse ($306.20) and the Ippolita Rosé Rock Candy Mini Lollipop and Ball Necklace ($895). I found a BCX Blazer ($39.98) and Trousers ($34.98), a Kasper Cowl Neck Top ($33.99) and a similar rose gold necklace from Sears ($19.98):

Flashback to Olivia’s first meeting with David Rosen (Joshua Malina). He tells her that Huck has never been arrested and Olivia starts to figure out what’s really going on when she sees her father’s pen with the name Acme Limited on it. She confronts her father and then she gets smart and decides to accept Edison’s (Norm Lewis) proposal because his new Senate position gives her some leverage to get Huck back. Olivia wears a sold out Max Mara Orleans coat. I found an asymmetrical Sam Edelman coat for $178 that is similar:

maxmaraIn the present, Olivia and team are still trying to clear Jeannine’s name. This is all for nothing once Mellie (Bellamy Young) gets to her and convinces her to admit to the affair for $2 million. Olivia gets a choice, until President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) makes it for her by admitting the affair and getting Jake Ballard released. Olivia wears an Alexander McQueen Military Jacket ($1778.61). I found a similar BCBG Military Jacket ($169.99):

military

In the final flashback we realize that Eli Pope giving Huck back had a price. He orchestrated an accident that put Edison in the hospital and told Olivia she had to break up with him.

At the end of the episode Huck figures out who Eli Pope really is and the deal Olivia secured for him and Jake Ballard shows up at Olivia’s door…as long as she attends Sunday night dinners. Olivia wears a Donna Karan Collection Drape Front Cashmere Cozy ($1,000) and Cashmere Tank ($550). I found a similar Karen Kane Cardigan for $69.30:

Fall TV Preview

Fall TV sort of snuck up on me, I am still knee deep finishing up Summer TV, but I figured I better get my Fall picks up as we are starting premieres this week. For those of you following my Summer shows, don’t worry, I will still finish them up and I am only going to recap a handful for Fall so I can keep up with them.

September 13

Kendra on Top (WE)

Kendra is one of my guilty pleasures. I am actually watching the first episode as I’m writing this post. This season looks like it will be interesting as Kendra struggles with being Kendra the Playmate and Kendra the wife and mom. Here is a preview of the season:

September 16

Bones (FOX)

I love me some David Boreanaz! Last season was heartbreaking as we watched Bones (Emily Deschanel) finally propose to Booth, only to have him turn her down because of a threat from the serial killer, Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds). I am excited for this season because Freddie Prinze Jr. will be coming on as a guest star.

Dancing with the Stars (ABC)

This kicked off tonight but I haven’t watched it yet. I have to be honest, I love DWTS, but I barely ever watch it in realtime. It does make me want to take John to dancing lessons. If you can get your husband to watch the show with you, you could try The Dating Diva’s Dancing with the Stars Date Night.

DWTS

For Season 17, I am most excited to watch Elizabeth Berkley and Leah Remini. It’s always a great show.

September 23

How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

We now know that this will be the final season of HIMYM. While I am sad to see it go, I am excited to see how the story ends – there better be a big payoff at the end. In the final scene of last season’s finale we got to meet the mother, Cristin Milioti. We left Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) about to get married, with Ted (Josh Radnor) digging up Robin’s locket and once again these two still have unresolved feelings towards each other. Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel) are about to leave for Italy, but Marshall has accepted a judgeship without telling her. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Castle (ABC)

Castle (Nathan Fillion) finally proposed to Beckett (Stana Katic), but she has a hot new job offer in D.C. What will she decide? Where will they live? We just have to wait and find out.

Hostages (CBS)

The preview for this one looked pretty dramatic. It stars Toni Collette as Ellen Sanders and Dylan McDermott as a surgeon and FBI agent who kidnaps her family so she will kill the president during a special operation. This sort of reminds me of Homeland, but I’m not sure how they will sustain it after the surgery is over.

September 24

Chicago Fire (NBC)

My husband and I love to watch Chicago Fire together. When we were in college, John was a part time firefighter and boy did he look hot in his uniform. It’s fun to watch the show with him because he will always give me the inside scoop. Last season ended with Shay (Lauren German) unable to get pregnant with Severide’s (Taylor Kinney) baby, but Renee (Sarah Shahi) coming back pregnant instead. Mills (Charlie Barnett) broke up with Dawson (Monica Raymund) and it looks like he might join the police force. Dawson revealed her feelings for Casey (Jesse Spencer) who is still grief-stricken about his girlfriend/fiance’s death.

Person of Interest (CBS)

This is another show my husband and I watch together. We are suckers for anything from J.J. Abrams. The machine is missing and Root (Amy Acker) has lost her mind about it. Just another day on the job for Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson). Now Samantha (Sarah Shahi) is joining the team to hopefully serve as a love interest for Reese.

September 25

Revolution (NBC)

This is another show that I watch with my husband. If you haven’t noticed a theme we like sci-fi and action shows. I was going to recap last season, but I found a great promo that pretty much sums it up:

September 26

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)

It seems like forever since I watched the finale last season so details are sort of fuzzy. Here’s what I can remember: There was a big storm and the power went out. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had their baby, but Bailey (Chandra Wilson) had to come in at the end to save Meredith. April (Sarah Drew) got engaged to Matthew, but she is still in love with Avery (Jesse Williams). Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) cheated on Callie (Sara Ramirez). Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) finally got together. Christina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) broke up. Richard (James Pickens Jr.) was electrocuted and we don’t know if he made it. Just a few things to look forward to when the season starts up again.

The Crazy Ones (CBS)

Sarah Michelle Gellar…say no more. I can’t wait to watch this show where Robin Williams and SMG place a father/daughter duo running an advertising agency. If this clip doesn’t sell it to you then there might be something wrong with you. FANTASTIC! I will definitely be covering this show.

September 29

The Good Wife (CBS)

I love Julianna Margulies in this show, she has fantastic clothes and lays the smackdown in court. Season 4 left us on a cliffhanger. It looks like Alicia will be joining Cary (Matt Czuchry) in starting their own firm. Peter (Chris Noth) won the gubenatorial election but his campaign left us questioning how ethical it was. Alicia is still trying to decide between Peter and Will (Josh Charles) – who knows which man she will choose.

Betrayal (ABC)

Betrayal is about a married photographer who has an affair with a married lawyer for a powerful family. The story’s premise is around a murder trial of which both of them are on different sides. It looks interesting so far, so I will give it a few episodes to grow on me.

Homeland (Showtime)

Wow, the season finale of Homeland was nuts! Abu Nazir’s plan was finally executed and just as you think Carrie (Claire Danes) and Brody (Damien Lewis) will finally get a happy ending, Brady gets framed for the entire attack. I have no idea how they can come back from this one.

Revenge (ABC)

Conrad (Henry Czerny) became Governor, Declan (Connor Paolo) was killed, Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) is pregnant, Nolan (Gabriel Mann) is being interrogated by the FBI, Daniel (Josh Bowman) may have killed Aiden (Barry Sloane), Victoria (Madeline Stowe) has a son named Patrick and the most exciting moment of all – Emily (Emily VanCamp) finally revealing to Jack (Nick Wechsler) who she really is. I can’t wait to see how he will react.

October 3

Scandal (ABC)

Last season’s Scandal ended with a lot of surprises! Olivia (Kerry Washington) found out that the head of B613, Rowan (Joe Morton) is her father and he gave the copy of her sex tape with Jake (Scott Foley) to Cyrus (Jeff Perry). Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) finally comes aboard the Defiance train. Olivia finds out that Fitz murdered Verna. Quinn (Katie Lowes) is going down a very dark path when she tortures Billy Chambers (Matt Letscher) when Huck (Guillermo Diaz) couldn’t do it. The public finally learns that Olivia is the president’s mistress, but Mellie (Bellamy Young) decides to take him back after Olivia breaks up with him again. Jake got thrown into the same pit that Huck did. Who knows what will happen this season?! I did hear that Lisa Kudrow will be guest starring.

The Vampire Diaries (CW)

The cure went to…Katherine, not Elena (Nina Dobrev) like we all thought. Stefan (Paul Wesley) was buried alive by Silas, who assumed his identity. Elena finally admitted that she is in love with Damon (Ian Somerholder). Bonnie (Katerina Graham) died saving Jeremy, who is back. Rebekah (Claire Holt) gets to travel the world with Matt (Zach Roerig). Klaus (Joseph Morgan) gave Tyler (Michael Trevino) permission to come back to Mystic Falls for Caroline (Candice Accola) and he is off to star in The Originals spin-off.

If you’ve never watched the show before, this trailer pretty much sums up the series…wow:

The Originals (CW)

The Vampire Diaries spin-off features Klaus, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Rebekah as they move to New Orleans to reclaim the city they built. We learned last season that Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is pregnant with Klaus’ baby which prompted him to stay. I’m not sure how this show will go, but the trailer looks okay, but I’m pretty much only watching it because it’s a spin-off.

October 6

Witches of East End (Lifetime)

I’m a sucker for fantasy shows (can you sense a theme yet?) and this is the newest one to throw it’s hat into the ring. This is based on a book about a witch who is doomed to relive the deaths of her daughters forever. It stars Julia Ormand, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Madchen Amick to name a few familiar faces. The trailer doesn’t give me a lot to go on, so only time will tell.

October 9

Arrow (CW)

Last season Tommy died…that’s about it. I’m 50/50 on this show. If they wow me this season I could stick with it, but I’m mostly watching for Stephen Amell’s abs.

October 17

White Collar (USA)

White Collar ended the season with Peter (Tim Dekay) getting framed for the murder of Senator Pratt by James (Treat Williams). Who knows how Neil (Matt Bomer) will get us out of this one, but I will enjoy watching.

Reign (CW)

This is a period show about Mary, Queen of Scots that looks pretty interesting. The trailer looks awesome.

October 25

The Carrie Diaries (The CW)

This show totally grew on me last season and I think the second season will be even better. We last left Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb) spending a summer in New York with Walt (Brendan Dooling) after Sebastian (Austin Butler) cheated on her with her best friend Maggie (Katie Findlay). I definitely didn’t see that one coming. Maggie outs Walt at the end of the episode and we hear a certain Stanford Blatch referenced. I can’t wait to see how they are going to introduce all of the main characters. We already know that Lindsey Gort will play Samantha Jones.

Grimm (NBC)

We ended the season with Nick (David Guintoli) being paralyzed in a coffin on his way to meet with the royal family. When he arrives he will be under a zombie trance and could be forced to do the royal family’s bidding. This is too bad, because he was so close to finally getting Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) back. I also want to find out what will happen to Adelaide (Claire Coffee), will she get her powers back?

Dracula (NBC)

I love me some vampires and what could be better than the original count. This adaptation will star Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula and looks like an epic drama that you could really sink your teeth into.

November 4

Almost Human (FOX)

My husband sent me the promo for this show, which looks to be a place where all of us Fringe fans can hang our hats. J.J. Abrams is at it again with a cop drama set in 2048  featuring a human officer partnered with an android. The trailer looks good and hopefully they won’t push this to Friday nights as they seem to do with every other sci-fi show that we like. There’s always more than meets the eye with a J.J. Abrams show so we will see what the underlying mystery really is.

What shows will you be watching this fall? What are you most looking forward to? Let me know if there are other shows you think I should check out and which shows you want me to recap.

“The Box” Goodwin Games Recap

We’ve finally reached the end of this random summer series. It grew on me more than I anticipated and now that it is over I am sorry to see it go. The last episode was great and left me wanting more, which is how it should be.

The intro sequence with Henry Goodwin (Scott Foley) was great! The only thing that was missing was maybe some Eye of the Tiger in his montage. That sequence was similar to a lot of my mornings, mostly the part about getting ready and then tripping over things and everything going wrong.

Scott Foley

Chloe (Becki Newton) and Jimmy (TJ Miller) are basking in the afterglow of their relationships with Ivan (Adam Rodriguez) and April (Melissa Tang), but they both have different reasons for keeping them secret from Henry. Mostly because each of them are unethical in their own way.

As Chloe and Ivan say their goodbyes, she tells him about her special parking spot at school that always seems to be free whenever she arrives. She wears her Valentino heels (see the previous recap here) and an Herve Leger Riley Ombre Bandage Skirt ($572). I found a number of additional options in blue and plum at various price points.

Herve Leger Riley Ombre Skirt

Herve Leger Riley Ombre Skirt

Chloe and Jimmy want Henry to go through a box of their dad’s old things. Henry is avoiding it and decides to take it to Lucinda (Kat Foster) at the church as a donation. Henry is overwhelmed in all aspects of his life and he seems to be letting things drop through the cracks…someone is on his way to a nervous breakdown.

Chloe heads off to school and realizes that she doesn’t have a magic parking spot. April has been holding her spot with cones every day and moving them right before she arrives. Her father asked April to do this because Chloe gives up to easily. If she didn’t find a spot, she would probably skip class and go for yogurt.

April

The siblings are summoned to April’s office for another video from their dad. This week he gives each of them a riddle to solve:

  • Jimmy: Hokey pokey steeple chase, answer this to win the race.
  • Chloe: Trouble, eye of another spy, Chloe find him, fly goose fly.
  • Henry: Green potato, rancid cow, old wild shoe, who’s sorry now.

I found this great blazer from BCBG Max Azria ($268) that is similar to the one Chloe wears above:

Jimmy stays behind so he can have another tryst with April. Chloe wonders if her father is meddling in Jimmy’s life too, through April. He dismisses this idea, but suggests that Ivan could be a setup which makes Chloe paranoid for the rest of the evening.

Chloe wears a Michelle Mason Peplum Dress ($143) for her date with Ivan. I assume that the costume department added in the touch of yellow to complement Chloe’s character theme:

On her date, Chloe starts to see parts of her riddle in what Ivan is saying, so she runs off. Then she confronts Ivan and breaks up with him because she assumes that he is in cahoots with her dad and April.

Henry’s wedding and hospital worlds are starting to collide. He gets called into his boss’ office and they tell him that he is overworking himself which is a liability for the hospital. They tell him to take a whole week off to get his head together. He starts to believe Chloe’s theory that someone is messing with them.

Henry gets home and starts freaking out. He finds out that Jimmy and April are sleeping together and that Chloe and Ivan are together. April admits that their father was just messing with them and that the riddles meant nothing. He wanted to remind them to enjoy the journey not just the destination.

Chloe calls Ivan and has him meet her at the bar to apologize. He accepts her apology, but is tired of getting his heart broken. She ends up going to his house to win him back over and it works!

Henry has a heart-to-heart with Lucinda and she gets him to admit that he is grieving and working too much as a coping mechanism. It’s too bad the show is over because I bet these two would get back together at some point.

April keeps trying to break up with Jimmy to no avail. She freaks out about where her job is going and that she is now sleeping with a felon. Jimmy tells her to listen to her heart and enjoy the journey.

The series ends in a touching moment with Henry going through his dad’s old stuff and finally saying goodbye.

“Happy Hour” Goodwin Games Recap

On Episode 6 of the Goodwin Games, Chloe (Becki Newton) tries to make friends at college, but it doesn’t go very well. Instead, she runs into Ivan (Adam Rodriguez) and finally realizes that he is her old colleague from middle school. Ivan finally asks her out for a drink.

Chloe wears a yellow snakeprint blouse with her Marcie leather satchel bag (as seen in “Hamletta”).

Chloe meets with Ivan

The snakeskin blouse isn’t available anymore, but I’ve found a number of different options that are similar:

Jimmy (TJ Miller) is still trying to find a job, so he decides to play the guitar and sing about his past crimes. Henry (Scott Foley) is sending “boudoir” photos to his fiance, Kate except he accidentally sends it to his ex, Lucinda (Kat Foster). He tries to beat the text, but Lucinda sees it anyways.

This prompts them to have a conversation about why their relationship ended. Henry reveals that he had a breakup speech that he never used. Lucinda refuses to delete the photo until Henry shares the speech with her.

Jimmy asks Chloe to hand out fliers about his new gig, but he acts really weird. She runs into April (Melissa Tang) on her way to the bar and discovers that April used to have a huge crush on Ivan so she invites her to come along on their date.

Chloe wears a Herve Leger Metallic Colorblock Bandage Dress ($179) and BEBE Jacket with a fur collar ($69.99):

In an effort to redeem her friendship with April, Chloe tries to set her up with Ivan, which is awkward since Ivan likes Chloe. This makes for a very weird date, since Chloe is forcing Ivan and April together.

Henry meets up with Lucinda at the bar and he still won’t give her the breakup speech. Henry tells her that she left him for a man named God (ha!). It’s obvious that there are still unresolved issues here. The siblings keep telling Henry that Lucinda is the love of his life.

Jimmy is working behind the bar as his new job. He seems concerned that Chloe would want to set up April and Ivan. April tells Chloe that she doesn’t need to set her up with Ivan, but Chloe insists and heads off to leave them alone. Ivan follows Chloe outside and he tells her that he named a star after her (so cute!). She can’t help but kiss him and April walks outside and sees them together.

It’s time for Jimmy’s performance, which isn’t very discreet. He sings about his illicit affair with April (I definitely didn’t see that coming!) and shares way too much information with the entire town. April finally stops the song before he details their sex positions.

Henry chases Lucinda and they finally get closure with a real breakup. He gives her the breakup speech, which is actually a pretty good speech (minus the Closing Time part). She tells him that if had said that speech to her in the moment, she never would have let him go. If this show were going to continue longer than seven episodes, I bet these two would end up together.

April lets Chloe off the hook and Chloe gets to make out with Ivan. The siblings end the night together but neither of them believe that Henry is over Lucinda. April stops by to say goodnight, but ends up sneaking into the house to spend the night with Jimmy. She tells Chloe it is the last time (I don’t buy that for a second!).

What did you think of this episode? Chloe and Ivan are so cute together. Since we’ve never seen Kate, I am leaning towards Henry and Lucinda together. The next episode is the series finale, I wonder if they will ever bring this show back?

“The Birds of Granby” Goodwin Games Recap

This week’s episode begins with another one of dear old Dad’s challenges. He tells them that they need to appreciate the birds of Granby, a simple assignment but one with a lot of hidden meanings.

Chloe (Becki Newton) is wearing a plaid blouse from Equipment. Her color is sold out, but you can get it in green or blue here ($208):

The siblings head out to the park to “appreciate the birds” and they run into Piper’s mother, Hannah (Janina Gavankar from True Blood). We learn how she met Jimmy (TJ Miller) and how Piper (Kaitlyn Maher) came about.

Hannah is wearing a Free People Henley shirt in Indigo ($68):

Henry (Scott Foley) and Chloe wonder why Jimmy has never introduced them to Piper. They decide to forgo the birds of Granby mission and help Jimmy bond with his daughter. They give him a makeover, getting him to wear Henry’s clothes, which fit him poorly. As they arrive at Hannah’s house to make a good impression, Jimmy chickens out and decides to go through the window instead. This results in Jimmy knocking down the trellis:

Chloe accessorizes with the Coach Legacy Leather Penny Shoulder Purse ($198):

The siblings finally meet Hannah, Piper and Chad (Hannah’s fiance, guest star Chris Diamantopoulos). Chloe tries to find ways to bond with Piper and they start by playing a game of chess. Jimmy works on impressing Hannah and Henry helps Chad fix the trellis.

Hannah wears a Splendid Henley top ($110):

It is hilarious to watch Henry try to bond with Chad, who is also a “doctor.” Henry is really impressed with Chad and his small town practice and he all but signs up to partner with him. Everything is going great until Henry finds out that he is a Natureopathic doctor and the deal is off.

Chloe takes the third degree from Piper about how her life has turned out. Piper also gives her a run for her money in chess. We find out that Chloe’s dad taught her how to play chess. One of the best moments in this episode is when Piper asks Chloe her advice on how to turn out better than she did. Chloe says that she wishes she would have learned how to fail, which is great advice.

Jimmy tries to convince Hannah that he has changed and is responsible. Hannah doesn’t believe any of this and Jimmy makes a mess of things again.

All of the siblings do a terrible job of impressing the family and they are asked to leave. One of the most heartbreaking moments is when Piper gets hurt and she runs to her “daddy,” which turns out to be Chad, not Jimmy.

Henry and Chloe made Jimmy look better by default and Hannah tells Jimmy that she wants him to be a part of Piper’s life, but only if he can clean up his act.

Just when we think this week’s mission is a bust we learn in a flashback that Piper’s chess teacher was really Mr. Goodwin and that Piper did have a relationship with him after all. Hopefully, this will come out before the series ends.

What did you think of this week’s Goodwin Games? I think this show is starting to grow on me, which is too bad because we only have two episodes left.
