Catch JLO’s Second Act on December 19

Disclosure: I received complimentary passes to the screening in exchange for this post. Scroll down for your chance to win tickets to the screening.

What would you do if you were stuck in a low-paying job and due to a mistake, were offered a chance at a big career? Would you tell the truth and stay put or would you take the risk and see where it leads? In Jennifer Lopez’s new movie, Second Act, she tries her hand at the opportunity of a lifetime.

In Second Act, Jennifer Lopez stars as Maya, a 40-year-old woman struggling with frustrations from unfulfilled dreams. Until, that is, she gets the chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts, and that it is never too late for a second act. The movie also stars Leah Remini, Vanessa Hudgens, Treat Williams and Milo Ventimiglia.

Second Act Jennifer Lopez

To get us into the 2019 go-getter spirit a little early, I’m offering up 50 pairs of tickets to the advance screening of Second Act (PG-13) on Wednesday, December 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the MJR Grand Digital Cinema 16 in Troy, MI. You can enter via this link. There is no purchase necessary.

It’s so interesting that this is the film JLO chose to make next as she is having a second act in her career (not that she ever stopped). She is just on fire lately! Her Giambattista Valli gown at the premiere was amazing! If you want to see more, People Magazine did a nice round up of all of her look’s from the promo tour here.

What do you think of JLO’s second act? I would love to see you at the screening on Wednesday but if you can’t attend the screening, you can catch it in theaters on Friday, December 21.

Fall TV Preview

Fall TV sort of snuck up on me, I am still knee deep finishing up Summer TV, but I figured I better get my Fall picks up as we are starting premieres this week. For those of you following my Summer shows, don’t worry, I will still finish them up and I am only going to recap a handful for Fall so I can keep up with them.

September 13

Kendra on Top (WE)

Kendra is one of my guilty pleasures. I am actually watching the first episode as I’m writing this post. This season looks like it will be interesting as Kendra struggles with being Kendra the Playmate and Kendra the wife and mom. Here is a preview of the season:

September 16

Bones (FOX)

I love me some David Boreanaz! Last season was heartbreaking as we watched Bones (Emily Deschanel) finally propose to Booth, only to have him turn her down because of a threat from the serial killer, Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds). I am excited for this season because Freddie Prinze Jr. will be coming on as a guest star.

Dancing with the Stars (ABC)

This kicked off tonight but I haven’t watched it yet. I have to be honest, I love DWTS, but I barely ever watch it in realtime. It does make me want to take John to dancing lessons. If you can get your husband to watch the show with you, you could try The Dating Diva’s Dancing with the Stars Date Night.

DWTS

For Season 17, I am most excited to watch Elizabeth Berkley and Leah Remini. It’s always a great show.

September 23

How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

We now know that this will be the final season of HIMYM. While I am sad to see it go, I am excited to see how the story ends – there better be a big payoff at the end. In the final scene of last season’s finale we got to meet the mother, Cristin Milioti. We left Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) about to get married, with Ted (Josh Radnor) digging up Robin’s locket and once again these two still have unresolved feelings towards each other. Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel) are about to leave for Italy, but Marshall has accepted a judgeship without telling her. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Castle (ABC)

Castle (Nathan Fillion) finally proposed to Beckett (Stana Katic), but she has a hot new job offer in D.C. What will she decide? Where will they live? We just have to wait and find out.

Hostages (CBS)

The preview for this one looked pretty dramatic. It stars Toni Collette as Ellen Sanders and Dylan McDermott as a surgeon and FBI agent who kidnaps her family so she will kill the president during a special operation. This sort of reminds me of Homeland, but I’m not sure how they will sustain it after the surgery is over.

September 24

Chicago Fire (NBC)

My husband and I love to watch Chicago Fire together. When we were in college, John was a part time firefighter and boy did he look hot in his uniform. It’s fun to watch the show with him because he will always give me the inside scoop. Last season ended with Shay (Lauren German) unable to get pregnant with Severide’s (Taylor Kinney) baby, but Renee (Sarah Shahi) coming back pregnant instead. Mills (Charlie Barnett) broke up with Dawson (Monica Raymund) and it looks like he might join the police force. Dawson revealed her feelings for Casey (Jesse Spencer) who is still grief-stricken about his girlfriend/fiance’s death.

Person of Interest (CBS)

This is another show my husband and I watch together. We are suckers for anything from J.J. Abrams. The machine is missing and Root (Amy Acker) has lost her mind about it. Just another day on the job for Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson). Now Samantha (Sarah Shahi) is joining the team to hopefully serve as a love interest for Reese.

September 25

Revolution (NBC)

This is another show that I watch with my husband. If you haven’t noticed a theme we like sci-fi and action shows. I was going to recap last season, but I found a great promo that pretty much sums it up:

September 26

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)

It seems like forever since I watched the finale last season so details are sort of fuzzy. Here’s what I can remember: There was a big storm and the power went out. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had their baby, but Bailey (Chandra Wilson) had to come in at the end to save Meredith. April (Sarah Drew) got engaged to Matthew, but she is still in love with Avery (Jesse Williams). Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) cheated on Callie (Sara Ramirez). Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) finally got together. Christina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) broke up. Richard (James Pickens Jr.) was electrocuted and we don’t know if he made it. Just a few things to look forward to when the season starts up again.

The Crazy Ones (CBS)

Sarah Michelle Gellar…say no more. I can’t wait to watch this show where Robin Williams and SMG place a father/daughter duo running an advertising agency. If this clip doesn’t sell it to you then there might be something wrong with you. FANTASTIC! I will definitely be covering this show.

September 29

The Good Wife (CBS)

I love Julianna Margulies in this show, she has fantastic clothes and lays the smackdown in court. Season 4 left us on a cliffhanger. It looks like Alicia will be joining Cary (Matt Czuchry) in starting their own firm. Peter (Chris Noth) won the gubenatorial election but his campaign left us questioning how ethical it was. Alicia is still trying to decide between Peter and Will (Josh Charles) – who knows which man she will choose.

Betrayal (ABC)

Betrayal is about a married photographer who has an affair with a married lawyer for a powerful family. The story’s premise is around a murder trial of which both of them are on different sides. It looks interesting so far, so I will give it a few episodes to grow on me.

Homeland (Showtime)

Wow, the season finale of Homeland was nuts! Abu Nazir’s plan was finally executed and just as you think Carrie (Claire Danes) and Brody (Damien Lewis) will finally get a happy ending, Brady gets framed for the entire attack. I have no idea how they can come back from this one.

Revenge (ABC)

Conrad (Henry Czerny) became Governor, Declan (Connor Paolo) was killed, Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) is pregnant, Nolan (Gabriel Mann) is being interrogated by the FBI, Daniel (Josh Bowman) may have killed Aiden (Barry Sloane), Victoria (Madeline Stowe) has a son named Patrick and the most exciting moment of all – Emily (Emily VanCamp) finally revealing to Jack (Nick Wechsler) who she really is. I can’t wait to see how he will react.

October 3

Scandal (ABC)

Last season’s Scandal ended with a lot of surprises! Olivia (Kerry Washington) found out that the head of B613, Rowan (Joe Morton) is her father and he gave the copy of her sex tape with Jake (Scott Foley) to Cyrus (Jeff Perry). Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) finally comes aboard the Defiance train. Olivia finds out that Fitz murdered Verna. Quinn (Katie Lowes) is going down a very dark path when she tortures Billy Chambers (Matt Letscher) when Huck (Guillermo Diaz) couldn’t do it. The public finally learns that Olivia is the president’s mistress, but Mellie (Bellamy Young) decides to take him back after Olivia breaks up with him again. Jake got thrown into the same pit that Huck did. Who knows what will happen this season?! I did hear that Lisa Kudrow will be guest starring.

The Vampire Diaries (CW)

The cure went to…Katherine, not Elena (Nina Dobrev) like we all thought. Stefan (Paul Wesley) was buried alive by Silas, who assumed his identity. Elena finally admitted that she is in love with Damon (Ian Somerholder). Bonnie (Katerina Graham) died saving Jeremy, who is back. Rebekah (Claire Holt) gets to travel the world with Matt (Zach Roerig). Klaus (Joseph Morgan) gave Tyler (Michael Trevino) permission to come back to Mystic Falls for Caroline (Candice Accola) and he is off to star in The Originals spin-off.

If you’ve never watched the show before, this trailer pretty much sums up the series…wow:

The Originals (CW)

The Vampire Diaries spin-off features Klaus, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Rebekah as they move to New Orleans to reclaim the city they built. We learned last season that Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is pregnant with Klaus’ baby which prompted him to stay. I’m not sure how this show will go, but the trailer looks okay, but I’m pretty much only watching it because it’s a spin-off.

October 6

Witches of East End (Lifetime)

I’m a sucker for fantasy shows (can you sense a theme yet?) and this is the newest one to throw it’s hat into the ring. This is based on a book about a witch who is doomed to relive the deaths of her daughters forever. It stars Julia Ormand, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Madchen Amick to name a few familiar faces. The trailer doesn’t give me a lot to go on, so only time will tell.

October 9

Arrow (CW)

Last season Tommy died…that’s about it. I’m 50/50 on this show. If they wow me this season I could stick with it, but I’m mostly watching for Stephen Amell’s abs.

October 17

White Collar (USA)

White Collar ended the season with Peter (Tim Dekay) getting framed for the murder of Senator Pratt by James (Treat Williams). Who knows how Neil (Matt Bomer) will get us out of this one, but I will enjoy watching.

Reign (CW)

This is a period show about Mary, Queen of Scots that looks pretty interesting. The trailer looks awesome.

October 25

The Carrie Diaries (The CW)

This show totally grew on me last season and I think the second season will be even better. We last left Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb) spending a summer in New York with Walt (Brendan Dooling) after Sebastian (Austin Butler) cheated on her with her best friend Maggie (Katie Findlay). I definitely didn’t see that one coming. Maggie outs Walt at the end of the episode and we hear a certain Stanford Blatch referenced. I can’t wait to see how they are going to introduce all of the main characters. We already know that Lindsey Gort will play Samantha Jones.

Grimm (NBC)

We ended the season with Nick (David Guintoli) being paralyzed in a coffin on his way to meet with the royal family. When he arrives he will be under a zombie trance and could be forced to do the royal family’s bidding. This is too bad, because he was so close to finally getting Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) back. I also want to find out what will happen to Adelaide (Claire Coffee), will she get her powers back?

Dracula (NBC)

I love me some vampires and what could be better than the original count. This adaptation will star Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula and looks like an epic drama that you could really sink your teeth into.

November 4

Almost Human (FOX)

My husband sent me the promo for this show, which looks to be a place where all of us Fringe fans can hang our hats. J.J. Abrams is at it again with a cop drama set in 2048  featuring a human officer partnered with an android. The trailer looks good and hopefully they won’t push this to Friday nights as they seem to do with every other sci-fi show that we like. There’s always more than meets the eye with a J.J. Abrams show so we will see what the underlying mystery really is.

What shows will you be watching this fall? What are you most looking forward to? Let me know if there are other shows you think I should check out and which shows you want me to recap.
