You’re Invited: Kate Spade The Sky’s the Limit

I was thrilled when I saw the new holiday campaign for Kate Spade. I LOVE Las Vegas and having the catalog inspired by old Vegas glamour is right up my alley. Revenge “Repercussions” Recap

I can’t believe Victoria’s (Madeline Stowe) nerve to take David (James Tupper) to “Amanda’s” grave. How does she think this will end well when he finds out that she knew Amanda (Emily VanCamp) is alive? Victoria wore a Graphic Color Block dress from Karen Millen (sold out). I found two great options to recreate this look, the first a Calvin Klein Color Block Ponte Sheath Dress ($82.99) and the second a Andrew Marc Women’s Sleeveless Color-Block Sheath Dress ($38.40):

Of course Margaux (Karine Vanasse) wants the inside story and is annoyed that after Victoria asked her for money that she isn’t getting the first interview. Margaux is ready for work in an Alexander McQueen Military Cowl Dress in White (sold out). This Bebe Rose Smoke Cowl Neck Dress ($129) is a little different, but I thought it was a similar look that would be appropriate for work.

Daniel (Josh Bowman) asks Margaux to keep their relationship private – he has learned from the past and prefers not to be a public figure. It’s a sweet moment between them as he helps her with her earring. She wore these Sterling Silver and Pearl Linear Drop Earrings from Lord & Taylor ($30).

Daniel’s top priority right now is to keep Louise (Elena Satine) happy and re-establish his credibility in the business world. Louise is unpredictable and has him meet her during a shopping excursion. This girl looks fabulous all the time and makes and entrance in this Michael Kors Gold Leather-piped Strapless Dress (sold out). I loved this dress and looked hard for something similar. I came up with two options, the first – Abstract Embroidered Bodycon Dress from Forever 21 ($27.90) and the second – Simply Liliana Cap-Sleeve Lace Sheath from JCP ($83.99):

She goes in for the kill with this Embellished Bandage Gown by Herve Leger (sold out). This Dramatic Bandage Pearl Prom Gown by Terani Couture ($482) is the perfect match:

Emily tries to see David at his hotel, but someone makes an attempt on his life. Unfortunately, Victoria has seen to it that only family members can visit David so Emily tries to get in through Charlotte (Christa B. Allen). Charlotte is wearing the Lace Bird Jacquard Dress by Alexander McQueen ($897). This Jacquard Cap-Sleeve Dress from Line ($55.60) is the perfect look for less:

Charlotte’s loyalties are sketchy at best and just when you think she is going to side with Emily, she switches back to Victoria instead. Emily wears Stella McCartney Straight Leg Pants ($297.98) and Arte Designs Blue Topaz Link Earrings ($82). To recreate the look, I found this Pleione Mixed Media Tunic ($58) and the Perfect Form Mini Bootcut Pant from White House Black Market ($88):

On the other side of town, Daniel finally gives in to Louise’s seduction. It wasn’t that difficult – he was an easy mark. Too bad for Margaux who was way out of his league. Louise wore a Herve Leger Bateau Neck Dress (sold out). This Rachel Pally Sylvia Dress ($84.99) is a great match:

I don’t understand why no one tells David that Amanda is still alive or that Amanda is Emily! I guess that would ruin the fun – but seriously it is driving me nuts! Emily looks for a way to connect with David away from Victoria, so she strikes a deal with Margaux. Emily wore a Fluted Hem Dress by Armani (sold out). I found a few options to recreate this look. The first, a Short Sleeve Fluted Bodycon Dress from Charlotte Russe ($26.99) and the second, a Susana Monaco Edina Scoop Back Dress ($74.99):

Margaux is a businesswoman at heart, she doesn’t get too involved in these power plays but her loyalty always lies with the business. She struck a deal in a chartreuse sheath. I found this Calvin Klein Cutout Sheath Dress ($98) and this Ellen Tracy Short-Sleeve Pleat-Waist Sheath ($98) to match:

Margaux uses this is a way to help Daniel reinstate his good standing in the community. Victoria is none too happy when Daniel presents David with the deed to his old beach house. Victoria wore a Crocheted and stretch-knit peplum dress from Oscar de la Renta ($864). Modcloth has a few options to match this look, the first a Damask Masquerade Dress ($89.99), the second, a Captivate the Crowd Dress ($169.99), the third, a Penchant for Posh Dress ($109.99).

Emily discovers that Margaux is in bed with Daniel, which means she isn’t a true ally. Margaux wore an Embellished Woven and Cotton-Tweed Dress by Jason Wu (sold out). I chose this Ellen Tracy Sleeveless Floral-Sequin Sheath ($101.99) as a look for less. It comes in black or white.

Louise discovers that Daniel is really involved with Margaux and confronts him about it. They agree to remain friends and business partners, that is until Louise calls Page Six with an anonymous tip. She wore a sexy graphic print strapless dress. I found this WOW Couture Dress ($49.72) as a look for less:

So once David finally gets in the house, he is reminded of Amanda and plays a song they used to dance to. Was anyone else yelling at the TV that this was her moment to tell him? He was alone and thinking of her! The writers tried to play it off like she needed more time, but I think this was really dumb. They were just trying to keep the secret/plot going and I think that they might have jumped the shark a little bit here.

In other news, Charlotte is getting back to her partying ways. I really don’t understand this girl. She wore a sequin sheath to the club. The style is a little different, but I think this Adrianna Papell Illusion Yoke Beaded Sheath Dress ($258) had s similar silhouette:

The Good Wife “Old Spice” Recap

This episode had everything! More interactions between Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) and Josh Perotti (Kyle MacLachlan), Diane (Christine Baranski) taking on Lockhart, Gardner, Canning and Cary (Matt Czuchry) ending up right back where he started. Elsbeth and Alicia (Julianna Marguiles) are on the same side this week against Perotti. In court, Alicia wore an Alexander McQueen Pinstriped Blazer ($1785) and Pucci V-Neck Blouse. To recreate the look, I found this Topstitched Pinstripe One Button Jacket ($54) and Vince Camuto Faux Wrap Shirttail Blouse ($47.40):

I love how Elsbeth tried to use her feminine wiles to distract Perotti, but then it ended up backfiring on her. I usually am not a huge fan of her outfits, but I loved her Ted Baker Blare Wispy Meadow Jacket ($375). I found this Paperwhite Floral One-Button Blazer ($111) to recreate the look:

Diane is in charge of taking on David Lee (Zach Grenier) and Louis Canning (Michael J Fox) to fight over the Lockhart Gardner office. They trade technicalities until they back her into a corner. In a hilarious move, they are forced to “hire” Howard in order for Diane to keep the property. She wore a stunning blue Broken Elbow Dress by No. 35 ($845.50) and the Winter’s Dream Necklace by Daniel Lawson for Pono. This Ellen Tracy Three-Quarter-Sleeve Seamed-Panel Sheath ($108) is a great match:

In the meantime Cary was drowning his sorrows at a Harvard mixer over state lines, which means that he broke the terms of his parole…on a technicality. His parole officer was not having any of his excuses.

I was dying laughing during Elsbeth and Josh’s sex on the desk, the music combined with the shirt ripping was just hilarious. It was the perfect light-hearted scene to combat all of the serious scenes with Cary.

Alicia and Cary have a nice moment where she gives her full support to him in spite of their professional differences with the firm. She is wearing one of her favorite sold-out Armani Collezioni Blazers. This Calvin Klein Cross-Dyed Blazer ($99.99) is similar:

What a shocker that the judge approving the restriction that Cary can’t see Kalinda anymore – this will make for an interesting development going forward.

Josh and Elsbeth ended up screwing each other over in court, but they seemed to enjoy it. It’s too bad they won’t be regulars, they are hilarious together.

In the end, Alicia and Diane came full circle – back at Lockhart Gardner. Nothing was more heart-wrenching than Alicia sitting in Will’s chair. Alicia wore an Akris Belted Stretch Flannel Dress ($2990). I liked this Pendleton Worsted Wool Flannel Town Dress ($103.99) to recreate the look:

I also thought it was funny that all of the keyboards had the A,F, and L keys removed. I think they did that to George W. Bush and removed all of the W’s…ha! Diane looked great in a Number 35 Lilly Blazer ($1368.91) and marcasite bird pin. I had a hard time finding a similar fur lined jacket, so that might be a DIY project, but I did find this Linea by Louis Dell’Olio Lace Print Jacket with Seaming Detail ($61) which I think could give you a similar look. I also like this Marcasite Feather Brooch ($45):

For this month’s Pinspired, I wanted to put together some over the knee boot looks. I’ve mentioned in the past how I’ve had trouble finding boots that fit my calves. Well, The Avenue has solved that problem and I found this amazing Eiffel Over the Knee Boots ($49.99). Now I’m just not sure how to style them, so when in doubt look to Pinterest for inspiration!

I found this photo on Pinterest and I knew it was something I could pull off:

To kick off the look, you’ll need leggings. I love the Hue Ultra Wide Waistband Leggings ($36). They are so comfy! I already have these in black, so the look is halfway there.

I thought this Alfani Poncho Turtleneck Sweater ($46.99) was perfect for this look!

I also thought if I wanted to dress it up for the holidays, I could swap for this DKNY Sequin High/Low Pullover ($99.50):

I had a hard time find a bag to match the original look until I found this Maelle Satchel from Guess ($69.50):

Scandal “The Key” Recap

Things start to heat up in this week’s episode of Scandal, when Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Quinn (Katie Lowes) witness a murder in their ongoing investigation of Catherine Winslow’s (Sonya Walger) case. It is odd for Olivia to be present at a stakeout, but she thinks Jake (Scott Foley) is ignoring her and is trying to stay busy. I really liked the blazer that she wore, it is hard to see, but it is a black and blue colorblock style. Olivia also wears her trademark Monique Pean Infinity Ring and Movado Women’s ‘Concerto’ Gold Plated Stainless Steel Watch ($1979.99). To recreate her look, I found this BCBGMAXAZRIA Women’s Oscar Color Blocked Jacket ($145.92), Rhinestoned Infinity Ring ($2.03) and Kate Spade Gramercy Pave Grand ($149.98):

Olivia is at home, drinking her signature wine and relaxing hoping Jake will call, when Papa Pope (Joe Morton) comes by with a bottle of wine. Olivia wears La Perla pajamas ($258) and a Heathered Bruleee Cashmere Long Robe ($495). To get the look for less, try these Women’s Silk Pajamas ($109) and Restoration Hardware Cashmere Robe ($299):

Olivia takes the next step in her investigation by confronting Jeremy Winslow in public and then has Quinn follow him to see what his next steps are. She looks stunning in the restaurant wearing a MaxMara Ella Short Sleeve Coat ($722.39), Sermoneta Sophia Gloves ($280) and Prada Glace Calf Twin Pocket Tote Bag, Natural ($2,350). To recreate her look, I found this G.E.T. Day Coat ($164.99), Ralph Lauren Color Block Opera Glove ($98) and this Michael Kors Jet Set East West Leather Tote Bag ($248):

Olivia and Quinn figure out that they need to find the key to a locker to uncover the rest of the murder mystery. Olivia recycles her Armani Collezioni Single Button Jacket (sold out) and her marble Prada Saffiano Cuir Tote (sold out).To recreate the look, I found a Classic One-Button Blazer ($34.90) and the Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Saffiano Leather Tote ($268):

Olivia finally figures out that something has happened to Jake and then everyone shuts her out. Her only option is to try to get Abby (Darby Stanchfield) to help her. They must have filmed these scenes at the same time as last week’s scenes because Abby is wearing the Dries Van Noten Geometric-Print Silk Blouse ($449) again. This Polka Dot Chiffon Secretary Blouse ($48) is similar:

Cyrus (Jeff Perry) pays a courtesy visit to Olivia to let her know Jake’s fate. Since he killed Cyrus’ husband he doesn’t seem to care that Jake is being wrongly accused. It is so clear in Jake’s interrogation that Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) is only letting this play out because he is jealous of Jake’s relationship with Olivia. Olivia confronts her father, who confirms her suspicions that Jake is innocent.

Quinn does a little surgery and is able to locate the missing key, who knows where the next clue will lead…

Because of Jake’s interrogation, Fitz misses his daily cemetery trip with Mellie (Bellamy Young) and she freaks out. He finally tells her the truth about their son and she understands why Fitz has been married to his job. She finally pulls herself together and hopefully will make her time in the White House count.

Emily (Emily VanCamp) kicks off her near death experience this week by throwing on her trusted Vince Thermal Zip Front Hoodie ($395). ThisPaperwhite Open Knit Cardigan Sweater ($39.95) is similar:

Victoria (Madeline Stowe) comes back to the house only to find out that David (James Tupper) didn’t watch Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) but went off to try to kill Emily Thorne, of which he failed at. Victoria wore a Michael Kors Double-Face Stretch Sheath Dress (sold out). This XOXO Juniors’ Sleeveless Belted Sheath Dress ($39.98) is similar:

Margaux (Karine Vanasse) informs Daniel (Josh Bowman) that she gave his mother a loan so she would owe her a favor. Margaux wears a Narciso Rodriguez Pebble Crepe Dress (sold out). I went a little overboard with this look for less and found a few options. They include GB Colorblock Shift Dress ($35.40), Elie Tahari Rosario Dress ($159.99), and Anne Klein Asymetric Wrap Crepe Jersey Dress ($40.99):

Ben (Brian Hallisay) identified a suspect for Emily’s break-in who just happened to be her father…alive! I get goosebumps every time I watch that part. The ultimate buildup and nobody can say anything, she can’t react. Emily wore a Club Monaco Isabelle Trench Coat (sold out), VINCE Light blue cashmere jumper (£265), Mabel Chong Blue Moon Earrings ($65) and the Dogeared Healing Gem Briolette Necklace ($52). To recreate the look I found this Via Spiga Women’s Single-Breasted Belted Trench Coat ($96) and this H&M Cashmere Sweater ($79.95):

Louise (Elena Satine) is up next, working whatever her angle is on Victoria and Daniel. With her assets it is inevitable that Daniel will eventually fall victim to her charms. She wore a Vix Bia D-Cup Halter Swim Top & Low-Rise Bottom ($92 for the top and $92 for the bottom). Victoria’s Secret provides a look for less with the Forever Halter ($39.50) and Bikini ($28.50):

Louise continues her seduction by visiting Daniel in his penthouse wearing a sexy strapless dress. I found this Pattern Lace Party Dresses from Hailey by Adrianna Papell ($119) to recreate her look.

Back at the police station, Victoria takes charge of the situation with a press conference that has David standing beside Charlotte and herself. No Amanda to be seen. I thought this part was really low. Not to mention the fact that Victoria killed Emily’s fiance, now she didn’t even tell her father that she is alive. I don’t feel sorry for her at all, she deserves everything Emily has coming for her.

The Good Wife “Shiny Objects” Recap

Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) is back! This time she is across the table from Alicia (Julianna Marguiles). It is funny to get a look into her mind in this episode as we usually get to see her being eccentric. She is good at her job despite her eccentricities.

Diane (Christine Baranski) inadvertently downloads a virus onto her computer and it locks the entire firm out of their computers. It’s happened to the best of us, right? Alicia wears an Akris suit with a leather jacket and a sold out Armani Collezioni Cowl Neck Satin Blouse. I tried to recreate this look with a Calvin Klein Seamed Leather Jacket ($499) and Drape Neck Shell from The Limited ($59.95):

The firm decides to pay the TrojanLock ransom but it doesn’t work, which leaves Diane stuck on the helpline. I bet she didn’t have this in mind when she left Lockhart Gardner. Diane wore an Akris skirt, a cream blouse designed by Daniel Lawson (the show stylist), a Gucci Waist Belt ($453.80) and Dior Asymmetrical Pumps in black suede calfskin. To recreate this look I used this Pinstripe Pencil Skirt ($99.99), Crepe Tie-Neck Blouse ($79), Faux Leather Skinny Belt ($3.90) and these DV by Dolce Vita Ila pumps ($39.99):

It is so funny to watch Elsbeth thrown off her game by Alicia. First with the dangly earrings, then the weird magazines. Alicia definitely struck a nerve.

Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) has to enlist the help of her FBI sometimes girlfriend to track down the Ransomware scammer. In the meantime, Diane has to grovel at the feet of David Lee to try to get the password they emailed to her old email address. Diane adds the matching Akris jacket to complete her ensemble. I liked this Topshop Double Breasted Heritage Cape ($166) to recreate a similar look:

Elsbeth decides that she can avoid Alicia’s distractions long enough to win the case so they head back to court. Alicia wears an Armani Collezioni Houndstooth Plaid Jacket ($1,420). This Calvin Klein Glen Plaid Jacket ($83.40) is similar:

I have to make a mention of the scene with Alicia and Finn (Matthew Goode) at the bar. Alicia is such a bad ass, I love that she randomly does shots of tequila on a school night.

Back in court with Elsbeth, Alicia’s distraction tactics aren’t working as well as the first time. Alicia wore a Rena Lange striped blazer – a repeat from last season. You can try this Calvin Klein Hounds-Tooth Printed Jacket ($103.99) for a similar look:

I love how thrown Elsbeth is when Josh Perotti (Kyle MacLachlan) joins the party. Their relationship is too funny! In other news, Kalinda beat the internet scammer at his own game – she is darn good at her job.

Alicia and Peter’s (Chris Noth) exchange about the endorsement was the most honest I’ve seen her. She finally threw the whoring around in his face. I don’t know if these two kids will ever make it work. She was right about one thing, Peter needs her more than she needs him.

I loved seeing Diane so out of her element when she sees the cockroach – her reaction was priceless! She was wearing a Burberry Prorsum Dégradé Knit Dress (sold out). This Ralph Lauren Abstract-Print Faux-Wrap Dress ($149) is a great match:

In the end, Peter comes through for Alicia and endorses her. He knows where his bread is buttered…It definitely shows how far she has come and things have sort of come full circle. Alicia wore a red Andrew Gn jacket in a nice political red color. I loved this Tahari Peplum Blazer ($90.29) because it comes in at the waist mirroring Alicia’s look:

Disclosure: I received a complimentary ticket to FashionSpeak. All opinions expressed are my own.

I never felt more like a fashion blogger than when I was invited to attend the Detroit Garment Group Guild’s FashionSpeak conference as a blogger. Never mind that I’ve worked with retail clients for nearly a decade or that I’ve taught marketing to fashion students for nearly five years. Becoming a blogger has made me more conscious of my style and I’ve become thoroughly invested in the Detroit fashion scene.

FashionSpeak is a one-day conference for Michigan’s fashion entrepreneurs. The line up for this conference was awesome!

This was the second year for the conference, and the location downtown set the scene for a fun day of fashion.

First up on the conference agenda was Rachel Lutz. Rachel owns The Peacock Room, a darling boutique in Detroit. I was surprised to hear about her eclectic background. She once even worked for the White House! I’ve followed The Peacock Room on Facebook for a while and I love her funny dressing room quotes.

Next up was Jeanette Puig-Pey and Bridget Sullivan who work on industrial design at LEAR. I thought this was a great message for my students. Here you have someone like Bridget who was working in the fashion industry and then went to work designing at LEAR. I thought it was a great lesson showing the many different aspects of fashion and showing that there are many fashion career options right here in Michigan.

Now, I’ll be honest, I didn’t hear too much of Matthew Burnett’s speech. Mostly because he was conferenced in and I was sitting in the back. I was also ready for lunch which was hosted by Michigan’s own Buddy’s Pizza! It was so delicious!

Malina Joseph Gilchrist, T Magazine’s Senior Market Editor. She makes fashion decisions every day and had some great advice on how to get your product in front of editors.

Finally, the moment I had been waiting for! Tracy Reese was up next. I loved her passion and enthusiasm for fashion! She also focused on the business side of fashion. It’s not enough to be creative or an artist. If your business is going to grow you will eventually have to be a manager and succeed in the business world too.

There was a fun afterparty following Tracy’s presentation and I wish I could have attended. I had to run off to teach my class so I had to skip the afterparty. I was jealous seeing everyone’s pictures meeting Tracy Reese. Maybe next time I can stay for the whole thing.

I had a great time at FashionSpeak and was able to meet some new fashion blogger friends who I look forward to connecting with again in the future.

I can’t wait to see who presents next year! I hope it will be John Varvatos as he recently announced that he was opening a store here in Detroit!

Scandal “Like Father, Like Daughter” Recap

The first few minutes of this week’s Scandal were intense. But seriously, where was Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) when I was in college? Getting the president’s daughter out of a party without a single YouTube video was nothing short of a miracle. Poor Fitz (Tony Goldwyn). I felt bad for him having to confront his daughter in that way. His reunion with Olivia had to wait while he dealt with Karen (Mary Mouser). Olivia wore a Burberry Cloqué Jacket ($2,195). I couldn’t find a blouson sleeved blazer so I found this Puffed-Shoulder Boyfriend Blazer ($27.80) to recreate the look:

Abby (Darby Stanchfield) gets upset when she sees Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Quinn (Katie Lowes) in the White House which is her turf. Cyrus (Jeff Perry) goes on a little tirade and tells her to get over it and suggests that it might not be very fun to be Olivia. I think this was probably his best speech of the series. Abby wears a Dries Van Noten Geometric-Print Silk Blouse ($755). This Diesel Women’s C-Luceen Blouse ($36.85) is similar:

Now that there is a sex tape floating around, Olivia and team have to get to work and figure out who Karen slept with and shut down the tape. Olivia wore an Armani Collezioni Single Button Jacket (sold out). I found this 24 Inch Stretch Cotton Jacket ($54) from Express to recreate the look.

David Rosen (Joshua Malina) is having second thoughts about using the B6-13 files, but when Jake wants them back, he refuses. Jake forces him to give them up anyways after Rowan (Joe Morton) threatens to kill him.

Olivia also breaks the news to Fitz that she didn’t go away by herself, but with Jake. He realizes that he has failed in all areas and tells Olivia to throw money at the problem so the sex tape goes away.

I loved Olivia’s speech to the Morgan family. She owned that problem and we can see here why she is Olivia Pope and so good at her job (going back to Cyrus’ earlier speech to Abby).

An internal investigator also outs Command’s favorite agent to the President and now he starts to put the puzzle together of what really happened to his son. In a surprising move, the President and Rowan get Tom to implicate Jake in the death of the president’s son. I’m not sure if Fitz just wanted to stick it to him for going away with Olivia or was just blinded by jealousy. In the end, they end up arresting Jake and Olivia is left waiting for him not knowing what happened. She wore an M. Patmos Multi-Stitch Open-Front Cardigan (sold out). Oscar de la Renta passed away on Monday and I thought I would pay tribute to him in today’s Friday Favorites post. First I wanted to share my favorite Oscar de la Renta looks and then I want to share my favorite attainable pieces that you can get today.

Michelle Obama finally wore an Oscar de la Renta dress just two weeks before his death after avoiding him for seven years.

Here are the five Oscar de la Renta pieces currently on my list:

1. Oscar de la Renta Pink Label Winter Roses Pajama Set ($78)

2. Oscar de la Renta NM + Target Floral Canvas Tote Bag

This bag was part of a Neiman Marcus and Target capsule collection in 2013. You can still find a number of bags on eBay for around $30.

3. Multicolor Stone Drop Earrings ($157.50)

I am in love with these earrings!

4. SPRING MUGUET CANDLE ($75)

Perfect for gifting, this candle has a bouquet of orange blossom, French verbena and lilac with a touch of lily of the valley and violet.

5. Oscar de la Renta scent and gift tote

I am planning to head to the store this weekend and sample Oscar’s various scents to find my favorite. Macy’s is currently giving away a beautiful Oscar tote with any fragrance purchase.
