August Pinspired

I’ve been looking forward to this month’s Pinspired with Shay at MixandMatchMama, Sheaffer at Pinterest Told Me To and Mel at The Larson Lingo.

pinspired2 copy

I’m going to do something a little different for this month’s Pinspired. I hunted down this amazing Kate Spade Swirl Triple Row Necklace on eBay for about a year to get it in blue like I wanted. I first saw it on Busy Phillips in Cougar Town and had to have it.

give it a swirl

So I finally got the necklace and I have no idea what to wear it with. I pulled some photos of people wearing blue statement necklaces on Pinterest to get some ideas on how to style it:

blue necklace board

I thought my Joie Marru blouse in white would be a good use of something I already had:

joie marru

I definitely need to pair the necklace with a white dress, which I don’t have. I liked this Cap Sleeve Corset Dress from White House Black Market:

white dress

The other piece I need is either a blue skirt or blue pants to make this necklace standout. I found this Bisou Bisou flared pencil skirt:

I also loved the look with the orchid blazer, so I found this Preston & York Franny Bi-Stretch Jacket ($99):

I would love your ideas on how to style this necklace!

If you are interested in getting it for yourself, you can rent it from Rent the Runway.

Bachelorette 10 – The Men Tell All

It’s time for The Men Tell All…aka the easiest post to write because Andi only wears one outfit!

The show kicks off with a visit from Ashley and J.P. Rosenbaum. Ashley is very pregnant and they do an on-air ultrasound where it is revealed that they are having a boy! I just love them, I was a huge fan of J.P. on that season and am excited that #TeamCupcake is doing so well.

ashley jp

After a LOT of drama with the men, we move on to Marcus and Chris. Marcus is getting set up here for his big stint on Bachelor in Paradise and Chris is being primed as the next Bachelor. The ladies seem to love him and I can see why. The whole thing with Chris and the random audience girl was dumb. Since he’s going to be the Bachelor he can’t really date right now. Maybe that girl will end up as one of his contestants or something. I’m not really sure where they were going with that.

As Andi comes out you get a great look at her Sequin Vine Cocktail Dresses by Mac Duggal ($458). I thought this JS Collection Sequin Dress ($248) was a great look for less:

men tell all sequin dress

She wears lovely Badgley Mischka Pumps – The Kat High Heel, you can get it here, here or here from $150-179. These Guess Bittan 3 Pumps (484.99) are a similar look for less:

badgley mischka

Andi handled all of the men’s questions with grace and you can tell that she really respected everyone and tried to send them home as soon as she knew that there wasn’t a future. In this clip you can see her fabulous Alexis Bittar Vine Ring ($295):

Traverse City Wedding Recap – Day 3

Day three of our Traverse City trip, was the day of the wedding. The girls had to be up early for hair and makeup. We weren’t that impressed with the salon that we went to and our bride wasn’t very happy with her wedding day makeup. She asked me if I wouldn’t mind doing her makeup and I was so honored! Wedding makeup is a big deal and I wanted to make sure and do a good job.

I was glad I had an extra pair of lashes and brought the good stuff, whew!

makeup

She looked SO beautiful and I got a little emotional (shocker to anyone who knows me, ha!):

The wedding was on the beach and so much fun. Their vows were so sweet and I couldn’t be happier for my friend! This picture is of the bridesmaids watching Tracy walk down the aisle:

This is a picture of all of us with Tracy:

John and I had such an amazing time in Traverse City! I think John’s favorite part was the Moomer’s ice cream sandwiches they had at the hotel (they were pretty amazing):

So ladies and gentleman, that concludes Weddingpalooza 2014! We had such a blast and are so happy for all of our friends.

Suits “Pound of Flesh” Recap

This episode of Suits starts off with a bang, when Mike (Patrick Adams) turns off Rachel’s (Meghan Markle) alarm since she’s been burning the candle at both ends. Rachel is sleeping casual with a TopShop Viscose Scoop Tee ($20) and Sweats by Norma Kamali ($19):

sweats

Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Mike are still dancing around Giles Industries trying to knock each other out. Jessica (Gina Torres) and Harvey need to find a way to block Mike from going after some new shares that are available. Jessica looks commanding in a white asymmetrical dress. This Asymmetrical Shift Dress from Victoria’s Secret ($44.50) will give you that same power look:

asymmetrical dress

I love these next scenes with Donna (Sarah Rafferty) and Louis (Rick Hoffman) as Donna is practicing for The Merchant of Venice. As someone that also has billable time, I just keep thinking, what are they billing their play practice to? Donna wears this chic Roland Mouret Atria wool dress. I though this Collection Sheath Dress ($98) from The Limited was a great match:

roland mouret

Rachel’s brainstorm with Logan (Brendan Hines), went well and the board liked their ideas. She still isn’t calling him back because I think she is afraid of what will happen if they get too close. I love her Michael Kors Contrast-Trim Silk Blouse ($895). You can get this look with this Brooks Brothers Non-Iron Fitted Pinstripe Dress Shirt ($98) and the Stella and Dot Signature Engravable Disc Necklace ($69):

contrast button up

Jeff (D.B. Woodside) figures out a way for Harvey and Jessica to buy the available shares making it questionable, not illegal. Jessica is wearing a stunning blazer with a very different detailing on the sleeve. I loved this blazer, but couldn’t find anything similar. I did find this K Studio Twill Blazer ($20.99) which was the only blazer with any kind of sleeve detail that I could find:

bell sleeves

Donna had an amazing premiere of her Merchant of Venice play and is so grateful to Louis for helping her learn her lines. Unfortunately, Shylock was injured and the play can’t go on without him. Donna wants Louis to take his spot so the show can go on. We learn that Louis has stage fright ever since he peed his pants in front of the whole school. Donna looks dashing in a white sheath dress. You can look dashing in this Pitching Perfectly Dress from ModCloth ($74.99):

white sheath

Rachel ended up fainting at school and Mike meets Harvey at the hospital. Harvey convinces Mike to get some steak across the street while they wait for Rachel to wake up. He also convinces Mike that the stock sale has been postponed. Sean Cahill (Neal McDonough) confronts Mike and Harvey accusing them of collusion. Jessica ended up going behind their backs and buying the stock herself even though Harvey gave Mike his word that the sale was postponed.

As Rachel is leaving the hospital, she wears a blue silk cami blouse. I found this Chelsea 28 Flutter Sleeve Shell ($68) that I thought matched the color and I loved the look of it:

flutter sleeve blouse

Donna and Louis have a touching moment, as he realizes she helped him get over his stage fright. She wore a beautiful blue Roberto Cavalli Lace Keyhole Long-Sleeve Dress (sold out). I thought this Ralph Lauren Sequined Floral Lace Sheath Dress ($174) had a similar feminine look:

roberto cavalli

Harvey meets with Mike and tells him that Jessica won’t put the shares back up for bid and apologizes for getting them into this situation by not trusting Mike’s original proposal. He tells Mike to do what he needs to do and Mike goes to talk to Forstman (Eric Roberts). What he discovers is that Jonathan (Brandon Firla) has already accepted the money and has no idea that he has written himself out of the deal.

At the end of the day, Harvey remembers what is important and meets Donna outside of the office with flowers for her dressing room and a ride to the theater. This was a seriously sweet moment! As Donna gets in the car, you get a glimpse of her  Gucci Microguccissima Patent Leather Dome Satchel Bag (sold-out) and Gianvito Rossi Closed Toe Slip Ons (sold-out). I’ve mentioned this Textured Bowler Bag from Express ($59.90) as a great look for less and found these Ivanka Trump Janie Pumps ($125) to match:

Traverse City Wedding Recap – Days 1 & 2

I know it was about a month ago, but I wanted to recap my fourth and final wedding of the season. It was a great way to kick off the summer and we had a blast. I’ve mentioned my friend Tracy on the blog before and I was so honored to be part of her special day. If you’ve never been to Traverse City before, hopefully this will convince you to take the trip.

On Thursday, Tracy and her fiance (now husband) treated the bridal party and their dates to a wine tour around Traverse City. We went to some of our favorites and a few places I hadn’t been before. Traverse City is special because the wineries fall on the 45th parallel, which is the halfway point between the Equator and the North Pole.

John and I started our trip with breakfast and a mimosa (because there’s always time for a mimosa).

mimosa

We started our tour at Blackstar Farms, which has its own inn and winery. If you like sweet wines, this is the place for you. I didn’t find a ton of wines that I liked, because I usually prefer wines that aren’t so sweet anymore. I ended up settling on the 2011 Isidor’s Choice Pinot Noir. If you’ve been following my wines you will probably laugh because I am a sucker for a good Pinot Noir. As I was reading the tasting notes I noticed that this wine will age well for 5-10 years, so I will have to get this in the wine fridge.

blackstar

Our next stop was 45 North, where I am a wine club member. We set it up to pick up our wine shipment while we were there and I couldn’t help but get more of the Unwooded Chardonnay. They don’t even have this one on the website, so I wonder if it is already sold out. It was definitely my favorite and I would share a picture, but I already drank both bottles.

Our third stop was at Blustone Vineyards, which was a new one for me. The tasting room was beautiful and very open with lots of glass walls. I chose the Pinot Noir Rose, which our host told me they nicknamed the “porch pounder.” I also got some of the 2012 Naked Chardonnay. I am a huge fan of these unoaked and unwooded chardonnays that are popular right now. This is a picture of us outside of the tasting room:

blustone

Our next stop was at L. Mawby, which I’ve featured before here. Their tasting room is a ton of fun and the presentation is great! You get to pick what wines you want to try and they give you a tasting plate. I tried the Jadore and Domaine and got them both – so good!

lmawby

Our last stop was at Chateau de Leelanau, where I settled on the 2012 Peach Fizz. It’s like a Bellini in a bottle!

We had a great time on the wine tour and it was such a lovely gift from the bride and groom!

On Friday, we recovered from the wine tour and went to the rehearsal dinner, which was a bonfire on the beach!

John and I got a great picture and we were photobombed by the family of geese that were hanging around all weekend:

Stay tuned for the wedding recap!

Have you been to Traverse City before? What are your favorite places to visit?

Covert Affairs “Silence Kit” Recap

This week’s episode of Covert Affairs has Annie (Piper Perabo) and Auggie (Christopher Gorham) tracking down new leads on “The Postman.” Annie wears a radiant orchid blouse. I thought this Button Collar Blouse from The Limited ($34.96) was a great match:

radiant orchid blouse

Annie starts a stakeout of CIA operative who might be responsible for the Chicago attack. Her working outfit is casual with a navy jacket and blue t-shirt. I found this Eddie Bauer Alti Beach Jacket ($39.99) and Scoopneck Tee ($7) from Old Navy to recreate the look:

navy jacket

During her stakeout, Annie gets sideswiped and has to go to the hospital. This puts her in jeopardy because the agency will find out that she has a heart condition. She has to come clean with Auggie before her secret comes out. She still wants to wrap up her stakeout before the agency finds out about her condition and puts her behind a desk.

We also find out where Annie was for all of those months – she went to Eyal (Oded Fehr) who helped her diagnosis her condition and keep it under the radar. I LOVE this character and hope that these two will eventually get together. Annie wore a fabulous maxi dress while she was in Israel. I thought this Felicity & Coco Ezri Print Maxi Dress ($88) was a great match:

tribal maxi

Back in the present, Annie and Auggie have to convince Joan (Kari Matchett) to authorize their opp. She is busy trying to keep business from McQuaid (Nicholas Bishop) and trying to keep Calder (Hill Harper) from imploding on himself. Annie gets approval to try and turn her suspect’s wife, but she doesn’t take the bait.

Annie’s suspect ends up confronting her at her apartment and she has to use the gun that McQuaid gave her in last week’s episode. This blows the case wide open and they end up stopping another similar attack, so wins all around. Annie expects that Joan will confront her about her heart condition, but she just scolds her for working with a concussion. Annie looks smart in a belted black sheath. I found this Jones New York Collection Brooke Sheath Dress ($119) to recreate her workplace look:

black sheathAnnie realizes that Auggie changed her medical records so nobody would find out about her heart condition. She heads over to his apartment to thank him and finds Haley (Amy Jo Johnson) there. So much for them dating before, there doesn’t seem to be anything left between them at this point. I loved how she paired her dress with a lightweight trench and green bag. I think this Urban Outfitters Silence + Noise Drapey Trench Coat ($149) and Ralph Lauren Tate Classic Tote ($109.99) are perfect!

Friday Favorites: Salame Jewelry Designs

For this edition of my Friday Favorites, I want to introduce a lovely jewelry designer to you. Meet Rana Salame Striedinger from Salame Jewelry Designs.

rana

I went to high school with Rana and I have been following her work on Facebook since she started making jewelry about five years ago. She also has an adorable daughter, Lulu Pearl, who is just darling.

lulu

I had been following Rana’s designs and a while back she posted some incredible rings that I just had to share with you. I reached out to her about a possible giveaway and she sent me three rings, one for me to keep and two to giveaway to my lucky readers. I LOVE this ring so much and have been wearing it a ton! I also wanted to share with you my favorite pieces from her Etsy store:

2. Raw Quartz Dagger Brass Pendulum Earrings

I loved the look of these earrings and according to Rana, quartz is a balancing and cleansing gemstone. I like the idea of wearing them to keep me balanced.

3. Emerald Green Chalcedony Quartz Faceted Teardrop Gemstone Pendant Necklace

This necklace would make a beautiful statement piece and I love that you can select your own length. The chalcedony stone is considered a sacred stone by the Native American Indians. Chalcedony is supposed to nurture and promote brotherhood and good will.

This would be great to wear as a statement piece on an interview or for a big presentation.

4. Peacock Blue Drusy Quartz and Gold Chain Dangle Earrings

I thought these earrings were stunning and I love that Rana explains what the stone is in the description. Drusy is in reference to the crystal like formations on quartz. The inside of a geode would be considered drusy quartz.

5. Crystal Quartz Pendant Gold Filled Snake Chain Necklace

This necklace is just cool and it also doubles as a pendulum and can read, receive and store energy. This quartz is in its purest form and is excellent for meditation and bringing harmony to the soul.

Mistresses “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” Recap

Mistresses kicks off this week with Karen (Yunjin Kim) running into Jacob (Matthew del Negro) and setting up a dinner date at her house. Joss (Jes Macallan) is having trouble dealing with Scott’s (Justin Hartley) breasty patients popping up everywhere they go. April (Rachelle Aytes) deals with trust issues and Savi (Alyssa Milano) lies to Dom (Jason George) and he confronts her.

Here are my favorite looks from this week’s episode:

April

April confesses to Karen that she doesn’t trust Daniel (Ricky Whittle), and I am of the mind to tell her to trust her gut. She wears a T-Bags Strapless Ruffle Maxi Dress (sold out). T-Bags has a similar Ruffle Print Maxi for $188:

Karen

I loved Karen’s outfit for her dinner date with Jacob. It’s the Robert Rodriguez Jersey Wrap-Stripe Sleeveless Top on sale for $85.

Savi

Savi’s lunch with Dom and Zack (Jason Gerhardt) doesn’t go well when he admits that he has feelings for her and things with Dom start to implode. Savi wore an Eliza J Lace Detail Stripe Ponte Knit Shirttail Dress ($54.47) and a Vince Vest – Laser Cut Trench ($260). This Indication by ECI Striped Crochet-Trim Ponte Shift Dress ($31.99) has more size options left. This Trouvé Moto Vest ($52.80) is similar:

striped dress

After that revelation, Dom decides to put the brakes on his relationship with Savi, which I think is smart. Savi is all over the place and doesn’t seem to know what she wants. She wears the Joie Laurel Silk Chiffon Printed Pintuck Blouse (sold out). I found this Limited Printed Short Sleeve Blouse ($34.96) to recreate this look:

joie blouse

In the end, we discover that Daniel is actually married, but that doesn’t stop April from continuing the relationship. Joss takes things a little too far with Scott when a patient dies on the table, but they make up and Scott says the L word and asks her to move in with him. Karen seals the deal with Jacob, but we discover that the girl he broke up with is Karen’s patient!!!! Last but not least, Harry breaks the news to Savi that he is moving back to Australia.

I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends

If you’re a fan of The Bachelor or Bachelorette, you may have heard of Season 16 winner, Courtney Robertson. I was one of those people that didn’t like Courtney after watching Ben Flajnik’s season and was skeptical of her authenticity. Well, she recently wrote a book, I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends: Confessions of a Reality Show Villain, and if you are a Bachelor fan this is a must read!

courtney robertson

My friend Tracy bought this book and let me borrow it and I couldn’t put it down! It definitely changed my opinion of Courtney and gave me a lot of insight into the show. Plus she divulges great secrets and behind-the-scenes tidbits.

courtney 2

During the first part of the book, she writes her memoirs up to this point and shares details about her previous relationships with Jesse Metcalfe, Adrian Grenier and her one and only date with Jim Toth. This was a great way to start, because you get to know her and get an idea of where she was at in life when she went on The Bachelor.

Some of the highlights of the book include:

  • Her real-time updates of what happened after the final rose ceremony after the cameras stopped rolling.

Ben-and-Courtney2

  • How she got into modeling – she wasn’t always the confident girl you may have thought she was on TV.
  • Tips from past Bachelor contestants including Jaclyn Schwartz, Kalon McMahon, AshLee Frazier, Casey Shteamer, Graham Bunn, Michelle Money, Chris Bukowski and Arie Luyendyk.
  • Behind-the-scenes details of The Bachelor casting process.
  • What the girls were really like in the house and a day in the life of a contestant.
  • Her revelation that, yes, she did have sex in the ocean with Ben.
  • What really happened in the fantasy suite.
  • What is was like after the show stopped filming, before they went public.
  • What Courtney and Ben’s relationship was really like and personal emails between them.
  • Details of her relationship with hottie and potential future Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk.

arie

My favorite part of the book, was on page 202, where she writes “He left to do a wine tasting event in Detroit but we would see each other in a week to tape ‘After the Final Rose.’ I was so excited. We were just two weeks away from coming out publicly as a couple.”

This is my favorite part because I was at that wine event in Detroit and I met Ben Flajnik and bought some of his Envolve wine. The event was held at Mon Jin Lau and they posted some photos from the event here. This was right before the finale, so I was too nervous to actually get a picture with him, but I did have him sign my wine bottles, which Tracy and I drank during the finale.

This is my best picture of Ben while we were waiting in line to meet him (again, horrible photo, but I felt weird taking pictures like a stalker):

ben

I saved the wine bottles with his signature for posterity, lol:

You can read the prologue of the book for free here if you want a sneak peak before you buy. If you still aren’t convinced, here are three different interviews of Courtney talking about the book:

Bachelorette 10 – Week 9 Recap

We’ve finally made it to the fantasy suite! This is the week of overnight dates and Andi has three great guys to choose from. The dates are set in the Dominican Republic, the perfect place to fall in love.

As Andi arrives at the hotel, she wore the Carrie Cami from JCrew ($69.99):

JCrew

As Andi gives the overview of her guys, she walks the beach and wears a Show Me Your Mumu Shook Tunic in Sugar Splash (sold out). I found this similar Tie Dye Tunic from Venus ($26):

tunic

Nick gets the first overnight date with Andi and she seems giddy about getting to see him again. For this beach date she wore a Turquoise Python T-Rex Dress from Show Me Your Mumu ($172).  This Apt. 9 Snakeskin Chiffon Halter Maxi Dress ($18) is similar:

snakeskin mumu

She accessorized this look with the Ariel Snake Charm Necklace ($330), I found a $2.95 look for less at Lace Fancy on Etsy:

And with the Susanne Elizabeth Square Ring ($24) and these Alden Rae Wrap Bracelets ($49):

alden rae

During the evening portion of the date, Nick writes a ridiculous fairy tale for Andi and read it to her why wearing the most unmanly outfit of the show. I liked Nick from the beginning, but this didn’t do him any favors. Andi wore a Robyn Rhodes Alice Cuff ($80):

cuff

She wore this Amanda Uprichard Maxi Dress ($200.20). This Vince Camuto Chiffon-Overlay Slit Maxi Dress ($77.40) is a great look for less:

blue maxi

Andi seemed thrilled with Nick and he seems like the front runner at this point.

Next up is Josh – Andi and Josh crash a children’s baseball game and join in…that wasn’t awkward. Andi wore a Free People Shellshock Tank ($44.99), L’Agence Track Shorts ($78) and Alden Rae Grey Wrap Bracelet ($59 CAD). I wasn’t in love with this look, so I thought if I would recreate it with stuff I would wear. I found this Calvin Klein Layered Tank ($29.99) and JCrew Chino Shorts ($39.50):

free people

After watching their relationship unfold, I think Josh is the one that Andi has to chase a little bit. Throughout the season they had a few dramatic moments and sometimes I think a girl needs “the stomach flip” to know that she is really smitten with someone. During the evening portion of the date Andi wore an Asymmetrical One Shoulder Maxi Dress by Michelle Mason ($209). I love this ASOS One Shoulder Drape Maxi Dress ($87.06) and think it would be perfect for dinner in a romantic location:

asymmetrical dress

She accessorized with the Danielle earrings by KVBijou ($92):

kvbijou

Last but not least, Andi has her date with Chris where they go horseback riding and Andi could not have looked more uncomfortable. I feel like Andi thinks Chris is great on paper, but she doesn’t really feel that connection. It seems like she has been trying to make it happen, but it’s not quite there yet.

Andi wore a Theodora & Callum Multi Inca Scarf Top (sold out) on her day date with Chris. Theodora & Callum has similar tops and I thought this Blue Multi Panama Scarf Top ($119) is a great alternative:

scarf top

She accessorized with a Mini Gold Arrowhead Necklace from Gold & Gray ($99):

cache_500_500_0_100_100_arrowhead-600x450

For the evening portion of the date, Andi decides to send Chris home before giving him a chance in the fantasy suite. She wore Parker’s Adelaide Combo Maxi Dress ($297). I thought this Ella Ribbon Trim Dress by Ella Moss ($166) was similar:

maxi

She accessorized this look with Brooklyn Designs’ Katia Earrings ($65) and Maya Brenner’s Day to Night Necklace with Black Diamonds ($295):

maya brenner

Even though she already sent Chris home, they decided to go ahead with the rose ceremony. Andi wore a Halston Heritage Halter Neck Asymmetrical Gown ($495) and Alexis Bittar Miss Havisham Liquid Crystal Rose Goldtone Hoop Earrings ($150). You can rent this dress here at Rent the Runway for $100. This Love Sam High Low Dress ($95.70) gives you the halter and the asymmetrical cut for less:

halston heritage

In the end she gave her roses to Nick and Josh and they accepted…final rose ceremony here we come!

In the deleted scenes this week, Josh and Andi try a love potion that they purchased from a street vendor:

In this scene, Andi watches the video messages from Josh and Nick following their overnight dates:
