This is a series I’ve wanted to introduce for years. This was inspired by April from Smidge of This. She used to have a series where she shared a cocktail recipe and something she had been browsing. I wanted to take this idea and highlight local businesses from all over the country (maybe the world if I can figure that out). Every drink and shopping item will be from a small business. Everything will be local but there will be an online component so you can Sip and Shop right along with me! I would love recommendations, so if you have a favorite local business that makes sense, let me know and I will check it out!
Sip: The Fern
We’ll start with the Sip! I don’t know about you, but I LOVE stopping for a little treat when I’m out running errands. If you’re a mom, you know that your alone time is now sacred. I used to be a Starbucks addict, but I decided to quit at the end of 2023 because it was SO expensive and the drinks I would get were full of sugar. I don’t drink coffee so it didn’t make sense for me. I was thrilled when I stumbled across Royal Oak’s (Michigan) first woman-owned tea cafe!
The Fern is owned by Theresa Mullen (a gem of a human) and everything on the tea menu is sugar-free. The menu has SO many flavor combinations and you can add extra NRG (Nature’s Raw Guarana) for a little boost. I love stopping in for a drink, to work, or to meet up with friends. It’s my favorite place in Royal Oak. My favorite drink is the “Over It” with an extra boost. If you’re not local you can order packets to make your drinks at home. It’s the perfect solution for tea drinkers who want caffeine without the sugar.
Shop: Modern Supply
Modern Supply is a minimalist boutique in Royal Oak owned by Tara deBoer and Amy Lalich. I previously worked with them on a project as one of my clients, and have been a fan ever since! They have a little bit of everything including home decor, body care products, books, garden supplies, and lifestyle goods. They focus on sustainable products from local artists and makers from around the world. Amy and Tara curate everything in the store and it has a very modern vibe. It smells amazing every time you walk in, and there is always something new to check out. They even host fun classes throughout the year. With an online shopping component, they make it easy to shop small!
For this post, I’ve chosen this Sanctuary Bath Salt Soak with Bowl ($32). I love the aesthetic and that it’s refillable. I have a future post coming, but I did a bathroom renovation right before Cassie was born and I’m always looking for things to elevate my little sanctuary. I have a soaking tub now, and this would be perfect to store my bath salts in.
So there you have it! Our very first Sip and Shop! I can’t wait to see you next week for the next edition! Let me know your favorite local or small businesses!
