Friday Favorites: Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta passed away on Monday and I thought I would pay tribute to him in today’s Friday Favorites post. First I wanted to share my favorite Oscar de la Renta looks and then I want to share my favorite attainable pieces that you can get today.

Here are five of my favorite Oscar de la Renta looks:

Michelle Obama finally wore an Oscar de la Renta dress just two weeks before his death after avoiding him for seven years.

Here are the five Oscar de la Renta pieces currently on my list:

This bag was part of a Neiman Marcus and Target capsule collection in 2013. You can still find a number of bags on eBay for around $30.

3. Multicolor Stone Drop Earrings ($157.50)

I am in love with these earrings!

4. SPRING MUGUET CANDLE ($75)

Perfect for gifting, this candle has a bouquet of orange blossom, French verbena and lilac with a touch of lily of the valley and violet.

5. Oscar de la Renta scent and gift tote

I am planning to head to the store this weekend and sample Oscar’s various scents to find my favorite. Macy’s is currently giving away a beautiful Oscar tote with any fragrance purchase.

Five on Friday: Blogiversary Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

I thought like any other birthday I would share my top five blogger gift ideas today:

3. Blogging Business Cards

This is one thing that I wish I had. People are always asking how to get to my blog and it would be nice to be able to hand them a card with the link. My husband has even asked me for these so he can hand them out to the people he tells about my blog. I would love to hear your tips or recommendations on what works best or if you’ve found any you like.

4. New Headshots/Photography

Let’s face it, my headshot for this blog is a bit dated. I would love to get some new fun blogging headshots and photos to use.

5. Design Work

I would love to get some new headers for some of my favorite segments like Wine of the Week or some of the new series coming up.

5 on Friday: Summer Tote Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

No theme this week, but just some fun things I’ve stumbled across.

1. Michael Kors ‘Bailey’ Chronograph Bracelet Watch

I mentioned last week that our anniversary was on May 7th. Well John completely surprised me and got me this gorgeous watch! I have to get a link taken out of it, but cannot wait to wear it. I am a lucky girl!

2. Givenchy Antigona Large Floral-Print Shopper Bag ($1145)

One of my students strolled into class with this unbelievable bag. I immediately got all of the details and decided that I had to have it. Well that was until I saw the price…definitely not in my price range. Givenchy has a number of items in this floral line that I just love!

3. Forever 21 Romantic Rose Tote ($16.80)

I tried to find a look for less for the Givenchy bag and this Forever 21 bag was the best I could do. Definitely more affordable.

4. Michael Kors Hamilton Spray Tote ($297.99)

On my hunt for the look for less, I also stumbled across these beauties. So adorable for summer!

5. Junk Food Star Wars Tank ($20)

In honor of May 4th (May the Fourth Be With You) I thought I would pick up something Star Wars themed. I LOVE Star Wars and this tank is perfect. Junk Food also has a variety of different shirts in case that one doesn’t strike your fancy.

5 on Friday: Anniversary Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

My husband and I are approaching our third anniversary on May 7th – can you believe it’s been three years already?! Time flies when you’re having fun! I read that William gave Kate a £4,000 Cartier watch before they left on their recent trip to Australia as an early anniversary present. While I don’t think that is in the cards, I figured I would post my own list (and hope the the hubby reads this post, lol!). The third anniversary is all about leather, so here are my favorite leather gift ideas:

1. Kate Spade Cedar Street Tote ($268)

This was on my Spring Favorites list because I LOVE the color. It would be a great bag to have this summer.

2. Michael Kors Selma Satchel ($358)

This is my look for less from Olivia Pope’s amazing Prada bag. It looks the same and would be a great power bag.

3. Tory Burch Reva Bombe Clutch ($299)

One of our friends had this clutch and I just fell in love with it! I can’t decide if I like the black or pink version better…or maybe both! The black one is available on Amazon, but you have to search the pink one here on eBay.

4. Sperry Angelfish Boat Shoe ($90)

I started looking for a boat shoe when I broke my foot and then decided that they would be perfect to wear around in the summer when my foot gets tired. I like the gold/linen color because I think it would go with everything.

5. Michael Kors Sondra Sandal ($99)

These are chic and comfortable. I think I like the luggage color best, but the Mandarin ones would be perfect for Tiger’s games.

5 on Friday: Bridesmaid Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

This weekend kicks off wedding season for the hubby and I. We have four weddings this year and I am a bridesmaid in two of them. This weekend, my husband and I are both in the wedding. I thought it would be fun to talk about some essential things to help you make it through the season.

1. Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray $30

You spray (I would say mist it) this on after all of your makeup is applied and it helps keep everything in place for up to 16 hours.

2. Still Standing Spray ($14.99-27.99)

Being a bridesmaid means spending long hours standing in heels. Since I broke my foot last year, this has been difficult for me. It is getting better, but it’s not quite 100 percent yet. That’s why I need Still Standing Spray. It instantly cools and refreshes your tired feet for 1-4 hours to keep you going all night long.

3. YSL Touche Eclat Touch Up Pen ($41)

This seems a little pricey, but it lasts forever. This is a purse must have along with some Q-tips. Everytime you visit the ladies room run a Q-tip under your eye to catch any smudged makeup or mascara. Then touch up your eyes with the Touche Eclat Pen. This instantly brightens up your look and makes it look like you are bright-eyed and bushy tailed. This is one of my must-have items!

4. Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant ($19)

I love this stuff! It smells great and stays on all day. One of those great things to keep you looking like you just got ready instead of looking like you had your makeup done at 8 a.m. and ran around taking pictures all day.

5. Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder ($34)

This powder is a must have for days when you are taking lots of pictures. It keeps your face shine free and the powder actually makes you glow, which makes your pictures look awesome. I keep a mini container in my purse for touch ups.

5 on Friday: Everybody Love Everybody Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

I am up late tonight writing this because I am helping to prep for a bachelorette party this weekend by making pudding and Jello shots. I didn’t really have a theme for this week, so I thought I would share some of the fun things I’ve seen in the past few weeks.

1. Brunch Because Mimosas Sweatshirt ($29)

I saw this the other day and added it to my must have list – so awesome!

2. Nike Studio Wrap Pack ($110)

I thought these would be great for Yoga, plus they are so cute!

3. Stack Wines

These are so great for a picnic, summer BBQ or an outing with the girls.

4. Everybody Love Everybody Shirt ($32.99)

My husband and I love Semi Pro and one of our favorite parts of the movie is when Will Ferrell turns around on the boss and yells at the team “Everybody Love Everybody!”

There are some days where we think people forget that and I think this shirt would be a great reminder:

5. Spin Chill ($29.99)

This would be a great gift for the hubby or a great housewarming present for a hot summer party. It’s a portable beer chiller that can chill your beer or wine instantly.

5 on Friday: St. Patrick’s Day Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

My hubby is going out of town for a bachelor party this weekend, so I will definitely miss celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with him. He makes the best corned beef! Here are a few of my favorite green things to celebrate with:

1. Tiffany Clover Charm ($125)

This would look great on my charm bracelet and you could also wear it as a necklace!

2. Makeup Forever Tammy Eyelashes ($16)

I LOVE wearing fake lashes and these would be a lot of fun for St. Patty’s Day!

This is for the iPhone 5, but would probably fit the 5s too.

4. Ily Couture Lucky Necklace ($22)

5. Nine West Caress Pumps ($59.25)

I never need an excuse to buy shoes, but I don’t have a green pair, so these would be the perfect addition to my collection.

5 on Friday: Academy Awards Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

I have been working extra hard lately at my day job which means late nights and not a lot of time for blogging. I hope this weekend will give me some time to catch up, but in the meantime I am enjoying keeping up with the 5 on Friday posts. It gives me something to look forward to every week.

I decided this week’s 5 on Friday would be about the Academy Awards. I used to love to host Oscar parties when I lived with my parents, but I haven’t had the chance to do one in the past few years. I was going to write this post about my favorite items from the 2014 gift bags, but I didn’t really see anything affordable that appealed to me. So I decided to create my own Detroit Duchess Academy Awards gift bags. Here are a few of glamorous things I would include in my gift bags:

First of all, I would use these fabulous Kate Spade reusable shopping bags ($16) as the actual gift bag:

1. Deborah Mitchell Bee Venom Mask ($45.22)

This is the favorite face treatment of Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles. It’s touted as nature’s alternative to Botox and is definitely something that has been on my list for a while.

2. Alpepi Plus ($64.99)

The gift bags usually have some sort of technology gift and I thought this mobile phone charger would be perfect. You can take this with you on a hike, at the mall, or anywhere you don’t have the ability to plug in. It works for both Apple and Android devices. The cutest part is that it’s shaped like an apple!

I don’t know why but I always think of fur scarves as so luxurious. I have wanted one for a while and you can’t beat the price on this one from The Limited.

4. Clare Vivier Foldover Leopard Clutch ($210)

I had this on my list last summer and thought it was sold out. Imagine my surprise when I found it in one of my searches! I think this is just darling.

5. Kate Spade Silver Street Flask ($40)

What says Oscars more than a cocktail? I was actually in the market for a nice looking flask and when I stumbled upon this one I couldn’t resist. I love the Happy Hour text on the front.

5 on Friday: Valentine’s Gift Guide Edition

John and I don’t usually exchange gifts for Valentine’s Day, but I thought it would be fun to put together a little gift guide. Here are some of my favorite Valentine’s Day gifts.

US Weekly just posted this article about Nikki Reed’s Love earrings from Lia Sophia for only $38. I thought these would make the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. For a bonus, I think someone I know is having a Lia Sophia party soon, so I can make sure to get this order in.

I purchased this at The Limited a few months ago and love wearing it. It would make a cute Valentine’s Day gift.

3. Kate Spade Je Ne Sais Quoi iPhone Case ($40)

I thought this was an adorable way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It changes pictures based on your view.

4. Kate Spade “Mrs” Necklace ($78)

I’ve eyed this ever since John and I got married. Just a cute reminder that I am married to my prince charming.

5. Tiffany I Love You Ring ($125)

I saved the best for last! This delicate ring would make a great token of your affection. I feel like this isn’t one you can buy for yourself, it is so much better if someone else gets it for you.
