The next step on my journey to fabulous hair is to get it to grow out. I have been trying to grow out my layers and get my baby fine hair to come in a little bit thicker. I tried taking prenatal vitamins years ago and didn’t notice any results. I read about Biotin online and thought I would give it a try. I have been using it for about 4 months now.
I have noticed big results in hair growth using Biotin, my roots have come in a lot faster (I almost upped my hair appointment to five weeks instead of six) and I’ve noticed a difference in my eyebrows and eyelashes too. I haven’t noticed any changes in the thickness of my hair though.
Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin (B7) and is also known as vitamin H. I asked my doctor about it during my annual physical and she said that you can never have enough B vitamin, so that sealed the deal. I haven’t noticed any negative side effects.
If you want to boost your Biotin naturally you can find it in wheat germ, whole-grain cereals, whole wheat bread, eggs, dairy, nuts, Swiss chard, salmon, liver, cauliflower, carrots, bananas, soy flour, yeast and chicken.
Remember the old wives tail about pouring beer in your hair to improve growth and shine? Well this came from Biotin in a roundabout way. Beer contains yeast, which is a good source of Biotin. So now you can skip the beer and just take the supplement. There are also Biotin enriched shampoos and conditioners that you might try.
You can purchase Biotin at any drugstore, pharmacy or grocery store or you can get it on Amazon here for $13.99.
UPDATE: After a session with my hairdresser, I realized that I’m not taking the recommended dose of Biotin, which is probably why I haven’t seen any changes in thickness to my hair. I was just taking one capsule a day, but on the back of my bottle it says to take three capsules a day…who knew? I am now taking three capsules a day and will let you know the results.
Have you tried Biotin or any other hair supplements? I would love to hear about your experience.
