Splurge vs. Steal: Mulberry Double Breasted Coat

I’ve mentioned before that I am in love with the Duchess of Cambridge’s style. Her recent trip to New York City didn’t disappoint. From meeting Beyonce and Jay-Z to touring the September 11th Memorial and Museum, William and Kate made the most of their trip. I am an avid follower of What Kate Wore and was thrilled when they identified the hot pink coat that Kate wore to the September 11th Memorial. What I loved about this color was that it feels like a total nod to the American girl style. It was the perfect piece to wear in New York.

What makes this look even better is that Kate is around five months pregnant. I wonder if the pink is a nod to a little princess? Only time will tell. Kate is wearing the Mulberry Double Breasted Coat in Cerise. The coat was originally $2,600 and has now dropped to $1,300. Mulberry posted this video so you can see how the coat flows in person.

To get this look for less, I found this Isaac Mizrahi coat in Pink Raspberry on clearance for only $64.42! I thought this was a great match and you can’t beat the price! I especially like how the collar is so similar. The one thing I would do is change out the buttons to match the horn buttons on Kate’s version. If you check out the product video on QVC, the pink looks a little darker than it does in the picture. I am a big fan of how many size options QVC has for this coat. Everyone can have it!

Splurge vs. Steal: Mise En Dior Tribal Double-Pearl Earrings

I recently purchased some double pearl earrings from Ily Couture because I loved the look then I discovered that this is a big trend that started with the beautiful Mise En Dior Tribal Double-Pearl Earrings. Imagine my surprise when I realized that they are all the rage right now. Celebrities have been showing off these Dior beauties all over the red carpet:

Now here’s the funny part. The Dior versions are faux pearl earrings with gold-tone hardware, so they are really just designer costume jewelry. They come in all different styles and colors and retail for anywhere between $290-$645. Most of them are sold out and Dior recently raised their prices. Dior touts that you can wear them alone or as a pair. I don’t know if I am fashion forward enough to just wear one earring, so I will stick to wearing mine as a pair. I am wearing the silver ones as I write this post so you can see how they look on:

I got my Ily Couture Dual Pearl Studs during one of their recent sales for $4.99. That is a steal if I’ve ever seen one. Some of the variations are also at $11.99 depending on what you want. I got the silver and the hematite versions, but the classic version is $11.99. After seeing all of the Dior looks, I want to get the pearl ones too.

Which version of these do you like best and what colors would you wear?

Splurge vs. Steal: Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon Wedge

I first mentioned these Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon Wedges in my post about Kate Middleton’s Royal Style. I am a huge fan of The Duchess’ style (we Duchesses have to stick together!) and have been eyeing these wedges since they made their debut in the 2012 Olympics and on the Jubilee Tour. Kate still wears these beauties, most recently in Australia, and has styled them with many different outfits.

As awesome as these shoes are, they cost $398 which isn’t really in the budget. When Kate first started wearing these wedges Stuart Weitzman sold out of them quickly, but now they seem to keep the navy ones in regular supply. As far as looks for less goes, they have been more difficult to find. Any similar shoes seem to sell out quickly, but I am determined to get this look!

After many hours searching for a steal for the Corkswoon wedges, I finally found a good one. These Anna & Zero Platform Waterproof Wedge Pumps are only $40.99 on Amazon. I am going to get a pair for myself and will let you know what I think. They look pretty darn good and you can’t beat the price compared to $398 for the real thing.

As promised, I am introducing my new series, Splurge vs. Steal! I’ve sort of been doing this with a few things this past year, but wanted to make it a formal series. If you see any great steals, please feel free to share them with me.

I first introduced this Clare Vivier Foldover Leopard Clutch in my Academy Awards Post, but it has been seen all over the blog universe and Pinterest.

This clutch is so versatile, you can really pair it with anything. It does have a $220 price tag, which makes it a splurge. There have been a few steals for this look, but they have sold out quickly. If you are looking for a less expensive steal, you can snag this Express Leopard Fold-Over Convertible Clutch for just $49.90. Make sure to hurry because this clutch is selling out fast!

UPDATE:

So pretty much as soon as I wrote this post, the Express clutch had sold out. I didn’t want to leave you hanging, so I found another steal, which I think is even better. Asos has a Pieces Asymmetric Leopard Print Clutch for only $34.30, which you can’t beat!
