“Welcome Home, Goodwins” Recap

As we open on Episode 2, Chloe (Becki Newton), Henry (Scott Foley) and Jimmy (TJ Miller) have just found out that they have to move home to the small town of Granby.

Jimmy sums up the entire series premise in a little monologue ending with “these things happen.” This is totally normal of course.

We also found out that the siblings aren’t allowed to tell anyone about why they’ve moved home and the money they are trying to win.

The Goodwins have a meeting with April (Melissa Tang), the family lawyer, to review the next tape in their father’s complicated games. He sets the stage by telling them that they have been out of each other’s lives for way to long and that they need to take care of each other.

Each of the siblings has their own unique problems that get resolved as the episode proceeds.

Chloe

Chloe learns that all of the friends she thought she had in high school secretly hated her. So she tries to throw a “Chloe Goodwin rager” for the town, but nobody shows up. We find out that Chloe used to be best friends with April, but became a mean girl and tortured her throughout high school.

Henry

Henry is playing the ex game by competing with Lucinda (Kat Foster) about who has the better fiance/boyfriend since their breakup. I loved Henry’s line “Everything’s a competition” which is usually the dirty secret nobody admits to when dealing with an ex. The dynamic between Henry and Lucinda is promising. I’m not sure what kind of minister or high priestess she is, but her sarcasm is great.

Jimmy

Jimmy owes a lot of money to a Frankie Steamroller and decides that the only way to get it is by stealing from a local business. Unfortunately, his old best friend, Keith, turns out to be the local cop investigating the case.

In the end, the siblings get each other out of trouble, Henry and Chloe offering good advice to each other, Jimmy getting people to show up to Chloe’s party, and Henry and Chloe returning Jimmy’s stolen goods to get the cops off of his trail.

One of the sweetest moments was when Chloe put cream cheese and mustard in her hair in an attempt to make amends with April. That was a genuine moment and actually gave me some hope for this show.

I also liked that Elijah showed up again at the end with the random clue. I suspect this will be a recurring theme in the show.

Overall, I’m still not sold on this show yet. Scott Foley redeems the show with his quick one-liners, but Chloe is just annoying. I am hoping that she will transform throughout the episodes.

On a side note, if you are interested in Chloe’s floral blouse it is the Signature Floral Symphony Blouse  from Equipment for $218.

Get the Ombre Look For Less

I’m loving the ombre look for the summer and recently came across this picture of Sofia Vergara in a fabulous ombre maxi dress:

This dress was at the top of my wish list for my upcoming Nashville trip. So I tracked it down through my regular blogs and found out that it was the Hamptons Double Ombre Dress, from Young, Fabulous and Broke. It was available here at Shopbop for $159, but alas, it is sold out everywhere.

So I did some digging and found these other options, which were a little more than I wanted to spend.

As I was browsing the Nordstrom sale I found this Felicity & Coco Ombré Jersey Maxi Dress for $78. It is sold out now, but you can still get it on eBay here:

They ended up having it at the Nordstrom closest to me and I was able to scoop it up! I’m excited because it gets me the ombre look with a much more affordable price tag.

UPDATE:

So last year I bought the Felicity & Coco Ombre dress, which I love, but the big problem is the open back. I can’t figure out what to do with the girls in this dress. I was thinking about maybe getting cups sewn in.

In any case, I’ve found an even better look for less from Venus in this Tie Dye Maxi Dress for $29! You can’t beat that!

Have you found any great ombre looks for the summer?
