The Good Wife “Taxed” Recap

Louis Canning (Michael J. Fox) takes on a assisted suicide case with his particular brand of theatrics. Diane (Christine Baranski) is keeping tabs on the case for her client, until her client wants her to take over for Canning’s opponent even though she doesn’t want to argue against assisted suicide.

Meanwhile, Alicia (Julianna Marguilles) is back at bond court the other attorneys are competing to see who can get through the most cases based on the defendant’s weight. Alicia wants no part of their game. She wore a white, black and grey zip up blazer. I found a similar style in this Laundry by Shelli Segal Contrast Lace-Panel Jacket ($119.99):

Laundry

Diane is arguing a case that she doesn’t believe in, but she is between a rock and a hard place with her firm’s largest client. Diane wore a Carolina Herrera Metallic Floral Jacket ($478.99) to argue in court. This StyleStalker Forever Floral Blazer ($75.99) is similar:

Carolina Herrera

Diane seems to be no match for Canning’s investigators who blow her argument. She wore a collarless black and white blazer. This Calvin Klein Marbled Zip-Front Blazer ($114.99) is similar:

Calvin Klein3

Alicia gets shunned in bond court after taking too much time with one client and poaching cases from the other attorneys by accident. After all of the rigmarole she ends up having to take a plea so her client can protect her mother, so none of it was necessary in the end. She decides yet again to start her own firm with Luca (Cush Jumbo) and a new chapter.

Scandal “You Got Served” Recap

We open this week’s Scandal with the Senate opening an investigation into Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) affair. David Rosen (Joshua Molina) has to give everyone a reminder that an impeachable offense is whatever the Senate wants it to be and nobody is safe. I liked Elizabeth North’s (Portia de Rossi) blouse, but personally am not a fan of the wide leg trousers. This Wayf Keyhole Long Sleeve Blouse ($54) is similar:

wayf

Things get a little awkward for Olivia when she has to fix herself as her own client. She wore a Vince Geometric-Print Silk Tee ($165).

Vince geometric

Since doctors make the worst patients, Olivia brings in Leo Bergen (Paul Adelstein) to be her fixer. As he tries to make her a “woman of the people” he has to take her wardrobe down a notch by only having her wear clothes you can get at the mall. First up is this Anorak Jacket from Target ($31.50):

Anorak Jacket

The strategy is to get someone with a great public profile to talk Olivia up and the team agrees on Edison Davis (Norm Lewis), much to Olivia’s chagrin. She has to meet with him and convince him by admitting some hard truths about herself. He is still pretty angry about her lies in their relationship. Olivia wore a MaxMara Visone Reversible Wool & Angora Wrap Coat with Belt ($2,990). This T Tahari Mia Brushed Wool Blend Wrap Coat ($174.90) is similar:

MaxMara Visone

Her fabulous bag was the trusty Prada Saffiano Lux Tote ($2,500). This Michael Kors Sutton Tote ($375.44) is a great look for less:

prada saffiano lux tote

Apparently, she did it because in the next scene he is giving a glowing interview about her on national television. Olivia wasn’t too thrilled in any case, watching the broadcast with Fitz. She wore a Ralph Lauren Cabled Cashmere Open Cardigan ($779). This Plush Ribbed Cardigan ($29.97) is similar:

Ralph Lauren Cardigan

This strategy works until Mellie (Bellamy Young) gives the media a tip about the ring that Fitz gave to Olivia. Now Olivia has to sell her love story to the press. For some reason this is an issue for her, which prompts a visit to Jake (Scott Foley). She wore the same Mossimo Anorak Jacket ($44.99), this time in Forest Ranger Green.

Mossimo

Jake tells Olivia like it is. I still have no idea why she picked Fitz over him – he obviously knows her better. Olivia takes his advice and tells the press how she really feels about Fitz – it is odd to see. She wore a white peplum blouse for her TV interview. I found this similar Michael Kors Short-Sleeve High-Low Peplum Top ($58.99) to recreate the look:

michael kors peplum

Everything is moving along swimmingly until Olivia discovers that the Senate committee knows about her abduction and why the President went to war in West Angola. Olivia dons the Natori Enchant Chemise ($160) and turns up the music to tell Fitz the news. They realize that Cyrus (Jeff Perry) is the only one that can connect Fitz to the tape and confirm their suspicions.

Natori

Olivia and Jake have dinner together and they talk about his wife. They are a weird couple. I can’t decide how she really feels about Jake. Olivia wore a cozy long cardigan and a Vince Boy-Fit Jersey Tee ($60). This Halogen Wool & Cashmere Drape Front Cardigan ($148) is similar:

Vince jersey tee

At the end of the episode, Cyrus betrays Mellie yet again by going back to Fitz. After watching their scene, you couldn’t help but expect it – those two were meant for each other #Bitz (or #Feane?) is who I’m shipping for.

The Good Wife “Cooked” Recap

I’m not sure I would respond if I arrived at home and found Howard Lyman (Jerry Adler) waiting for me, but Alicia handles it in stride. She wore the Armani Collezioni Two-Button Collarless Blazer ($997.50). This Kensie Three-Quarter-Sleeve Collarless Blazer ($89) is similar:

Armani

Bond court is heating up for Alicia with an exciting drug case, while Jackie (Mary Beth Peil) is being propositioned by Howard (which is hilarious!). Eli (Alan Cummings) is still having a battle of wits with Ruth (Margo Martindale) and she wants Alicia and her mother to appear on Mama’s Homespun Cooking, a cooking show. Little does she know that is probably better in theory than execution.

Diane (Christine Baranski) is trying to find someone new to mentor and I was appalled by the girl’s response to her generous offer. Even if you plan to start a family you don’t throw that kind of offer back in someone’s face. I was embarrassed for her. Diane wore a teal perforated leather blazer. I found a few different styles to recreate the look. The first a Mark Zunino Faux Leather Jacket ($35.90) and the second a Laundry by Shelli Segal Long Ponte Open-Front Jacket ($59.25):

perforated blazer

Alicia and Veronica’s (Stockard Channing) segment was better than Eli could have hoped for. They totally crashed and burned and it was glorious. Alicia wore a Jason Wu Belted Draped Dress (sold out). This Tahari by ASL Viviana – W Dress ($64.99) is similar:

Jason Wu

Alicia discovers that her case is really an elaborate sting to catch the judge taking a bribe. Alicia wore a burgundy blazer and I found this similar Collection Flap Pocket Jacket ($101.97) to recreate the look:

merlot blazer

Shocker! At the end of the episode Eli warned the judge and he didn’t take the bribe, but instead wants some help with Frank Landau…what is he up to?

Diane is pissed that Alicia is helping Howard, which really wasn’t her fault, they just won’t realize that Alicia is not the enemy. The stuff with Howard and Jackie is pretty hilarious though. I can’t wait to see where that goes.

Scandal “Dog-Whistle Politics” Recap

Quinn (Katie Lowes) kicks off this episode in a suit no less. It’s been a while since we’ve seen her in that attire and I think we’ve almost forgotten who she used to be. She meets up with Marcus Walker (Cornelius Smith Jr.), who was caught screwing the mayor’s wife last season. Quinn gives him the same gladiator in a suit speech given to her by Harrison, but he wasn’t having any of it. And who could blame him, its been a long time since they were gladiators in suits.

Meanwhile at the White House, Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) is furious about how the media are portraying Olivia (Kerry Washington). He wants Elizabeth (Portia de Rossi) to fix it. Elizabeth wore a white pleated sleeve tie blouse. I found this Silk Neck Tie Blouse ($98) to recreate the look:

tie blouse

Olivia encourages Fitz not to fire Abby (Darby Stanchfield) and tells Fitz that he’s not acting like a leader. She’s not wrong on that front. He is acting like an immature child. Olivia is hermiting at home, drinking wine in the La Perla Silk Essence Top ($314). This Topshop Strappy V-Neck Camisole ($28) is similar:

la perla

Things heat up when Olivia catches the paparazzi taking pictures of her from the building across the street. The team has to come in to “fix” her situation. She wears a Josephine Cashmere Cocoon Sweater from 360 Cashmere ($251.40). This Neiman Marcus Cashmere Exposed-Seam Duster ($117) is similar:

360 Cashmere

The media is getting more aggressive and Olivia refuses to hire someone new, much to Quinn’s chagrin. In the meantime we learn that Jake (Scott Foley) is married to Elise (Mia Maestro) on his B613 errand! BOOM! Didn’t see that one coming.

Elizabeth is on the hunt to repair some of the damage Fitz and Olivia have caused. The Senate is getting ready to call for Fitz’s impeachment, so she decides to appeal to Senator Gibson, which didn’t exactly go as planned. Elizabeth wore a Tied Neck Blouse from Derek Lam ($990). This Evanna Double-Tie Peasant Blouse ($114) is similar:

Derek Lam

The scene between Fitz and Mellie (Bellamy Young) killed me. That’s the one area where Olivia is selfish. By having an affair with Fitz, she is breaking up a family. There is no doubt that Mellie loves her family, it’s too bad that Fitz doesn’t want to fight for that.

Olivia is starting to crack, which is why the President decides to take her on a date in the midst of all the paparazzi coverage. I thought that was a rather bold move in their current situation. Olivia wore a St. John Collection Felted Wool & Cashmere Coat ($2,195). This Parker Hurley Blanket Stripe Wool Coat ($495) is similar:

St John

Apparently, Mellie agreed with me because that one move pushed her over the edge and she gave her consent to the Senate committee to impeach Fitz. I think we’re in for one hell of a ride this season.

The Good Wife “Innocents” Recap

This week starts in bond court again, but Alicia (Julianna Marguiles) gets a substantial case with a young man trying to protect his likeness. She even needs an investigator and starts interviewing a few, including Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). She wore a cross dyed blazer, which was hard to find, but this Cloetta Flecked Cotton Blazer ($129.99) is similar:

cloetta

Alicia’s case takes a turn when she decides to go up against a museum to block an exhibit displaying naked pictures of her client. The museum is represented by Nancy Crozier (Mamie Gummer) who is always delightfully annoying. Alicia wore an elegant black and white blazer. This Calvin Klein Colorblocked Draped Blazer doesn’t necessarily match this look, but it is similar.

Calvin Klein2

Nancy is the character you love to hate, Mamie Gummer is amazing in this role. She wore the Escada Dkama Dress ($1495). This Milly Daphne Colorblock Sheath Dress ($435) is similar:

Escada

Both Alicia and Diane (Christine Baranski) and Cary (Matt Czuchry) are looking for a new investigator now that Kalinda is gone. I don’t understand what happened to Robin, she was pretty good. Alicia started with one investigator who dropped the ball and messed things up for them in court. Alicia fired her and went to Jason, who is also interviewing with Cary. Diane wore a chic mustard sheath. This Tahari Tiered Sheath Dress ($124) is similar:

Tahari

Jason Crouse is already getting his money’s worth, coming up with a new angle for Alicia to use on the second day in court. She wore a hook and eye closure, pinstripe blazer. I found this Stellita Fit Wool Stripe Jacket ($159.20) that is somewhat similar:

Pinstripe blazer

Nancy is having a hard time with this line of questioning, not to mention the judge needs to call a recess because of his loud stomach issues. She knows they’ve got her on this one. She wore an Escada Draped Plaid Sheath ($1425). This V-Neck Sheath Dress ($69.95) is a good look for less:

Escada plaid

Cary is playing with fire with Howard Lyman (Jerry Adler). He tricks him into going to Diane’s lunch and making a fool out of himself and she isn’t happy. Diane wore a cool graphic long coat with her black sheath. This Kasper Print Shantung Topper ($69.50) doesn’t have the same color palette but is similar to a statement coat that we would probably see Diane in.

long jacket

At the end of the day, you can’t break the mother/son bond and Alicia is out of case. Nevertheless, things are looking up as Jason turns down Diane’s offer and decides to be Alicia’s investigator. Eli (Alan Cumming) also wins some ground with Peter (Chris Noth).

This was a fun episode and I love Grace (MacKenzie Vega) as Alicia’s assistant. She is on top of it!

Scandal “Paris is Burning” Recap

After Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) revelation that she is Fitz’s (Tony Goldwyn) mistress, Abby (Darby Stanchfield) has to stop the interview with Mellie (Bellamy Young) to deny the affair. I loved Mellie’s Lela Rose Fitted Lace Sheath Dress ($1795). This Marc New York Lace Sheath Dress ($148) is similar:

Lela Rose

I loved what Abby did with the Secret Service to stop the interview. What a smart move! As soon as Mellie and Fitz figure out what’s happening, Olivia shows up in the Oval Office. Mellie is furious and Fitz orders her to leave until they figure out what they’re going to say. Olivia wore a Christian Dior coat. This Autumn Cashmere Double Face Knit Coat ($396) is similar:

Christian Dior

Mellie calls in Cyrus (Jeff Perry) to negotiate for her and aside for wanting to stick it to Olivia and Fitz, she wants the Oval. Olivia is inclined to agree to all of Mellie’s demands and keep her happy, while Fitz doesn’t seem to care about anything other than this relationship. Olivia wore a Vince Cross Stitch Double Layer Tank ($248). This Everleigh Double Layer Tank ($68) is similar:

Vince

I loved the scene between Olivia and Mellie in the closet where she gets Olivia to reconsider her decision. Being the First Lady isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be and I think Olivia finally realizes what she is giving up to be with Fitz.

Fitz isn’t willing to give up and goes and talks to Mellie and gives her a heartfelt apology and basically charms the pants off of her. She buys the whole thing until Cyrus, angry about Fitz’s cold brush off, tells her that she got played. Then the best moment of the episode happens…Cyrus and Mellie give the symbolic finger to Fitz and leave without doing the interview. Mellie wore a black Marni Herringbone Print Dress ($1630). This Ralph Lauren Houndstooth Print Dress ($139) is similar:

Marni

I love Mellie’s character and was so proud of her for finally sticking up for herself. This is going to be one hell of a season!

On a side note, Jake (Scott Foley) pays a visit to Papa Pope (Joe Morton) because in other news, the Louvre is burning and that means something else is happening.

What did you think about everyone’s choices in this episode and what are Eli and Jake up to?

If you missed it, you can still watch it here.

The Good Wife “Bond” Recap

You have to admire someone that loses everything after being humiliated and then picks herself back up and starts right back at the bottom. That’s what I love about Alicia (Julianna Marguilles) – the whole show is about she picks herself back up and that is such an admirable quality. Alicia wore a black, collarless jacket to bond court. I found this Calvin Klein Zip-Pocket Collarless Blazer ($77.99) to recreate her look:

calvin klein

The judge in bond court doesn’t want anything to do with Alicia because he’s afraid she’ll slow him down. Just as she’s trying to argue her point and convince him, Louis Canning (Michael J. Fox) shows up and takes her to lunch. He tries to hire her again and she tells him that he’s the devil.

I also have to note how cute Grace (Mackenzie Vega) is stepping in as Alicia’s secretary. Like mother, like daughter. Alicia finally gets a case to work on with a potential $8 million inheritance.

I could NOT believe that Peter (Chris Noth) betrayed Eli (Alan Cumming) the way he did. After everything Eli did for him. That was just shitty. How quickly he forget where he started now that he is relevant again. I did not see that one coming.

Back at Lockhart, Agos, Lee, Cary (Matt Czuchry) is definitely starting to notice that he is surrounded by old people and he longs to go hang out with the associates. Diane (Christine Baranski) and David Lee (Zach Grenier) have taken on the other side of Alicia’s case and are strategizing on how to win. Diane wore a floral Etro blazer. This Michael Kors Printed Soft Blazer ($78) is a similar look for less:

Etro

Alicia is still trying to be a bar attorney, but the judge doesn’t want anything to do with her because he thinks she’ll slow him down. She gets a little friendly encouragement from Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo), a new bond court attorney, and the judge gives her a few cases to try out. Alicia wore a Gucci Wool Blazer (sold out). I liked this Red Ultimate Double Weave 24 Inch Jacket ($128) to recreate the look:

Gucci

Back at the inheritance case, David Lee, Diane and Alicia bring in a bevy of glue and adhesive experts to comically try and resolve which side was to be awarded the $8 million painting. Alicia wore a Printed Tweed Jacket by Narciso Rodriguez ($1,995). This Ivanka Trump Faux Leather Trim Marled Sweater Jacket ($71.40) is similar:

Narciso Roderiguez

Diane wore a sold out Proenza Schouler Striped Crepe Peplum Jacket (also worn by Kerry Washington on Scandal). I found this similar Kasper Colorblocked Patterned Blazer ($54.99) to recreate the look:

proenza schuler

Things got a little crazy after this. Eli decided that he wanted to be Alicia’s chief of staff to really push Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale) out and get his job back. I really love Eli and Alicia’s relationship. They get each other.

Alicia gets stuck in bond court doing Lucca a favor and can’t make it to her regular hearing. She asks Lucca to step in and get a continuance, but the judge refuses and forces her to participate. Lucca ends up saving the day and the case and Alicia is back in business! Unfortunately, she finds out that Louis Canning fed her this case because he wants to hire her. He tells her that he will stop sending cases her way if she wants, but she doesn’t refuse. My prediction – she will end up working for him this season.

This episode was crazy and I loved every second of it! I can’t wait until the next episode!

Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show

Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show. Additionally, Hour Magazine is a client of my employer. All opinions expressed are my own.

On September 24, I attended Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show at the Fillmore Detroit and had so much fun! Upon arrival there were fun drinks and appetizers and networking with my fellow bloggers and coworkers. Now, what does one where to a Best Dressed Fashion Show? I’m not going to lie, it was a little intimidating, but I liked what I ended up with.

hour detroit 3

Hour’s Best Dressed Fashion Show is a fundraiser to benefit the Detroit Institute of Arts’ Founders Junior Council, an organization I’ve been watching for some time. They host really fun and fashionable events for the younger generation interested in the DIA. Somerset Collection also sponsored the event including the fashion show by Neiman Marcus. Prior to the event, Hour awarded 11 people in the local community  the title of “Best Dressed.” Each of the awardees has the opportunity to walk the runway as part of the fashion show (How cool is that?). You can see the full list of Best Dressed here. Two of the winners, Kacee Must and Niki Serras talk about their unique looks in the segment below:

Kacee Must is the owner of Citizen Yoga and I have actually taken her yoga class before, so how cool is that? With all of that said, I was pretty excited to arrive at the Fillmore the night of the event.

Fillmore

The Somerset Collection has created a series of short films, one of which was debuted prior to the fashion show. The way this was shot was amazing. On the website, it mentioned that this was for Fall 2014 and it looks like they have a new one for this fall.

Here are a few of my favorite looks from the runway:

I also loved this strapless top. I don’t know if I could pull off the leather leggings, but the top I could definitely see myself in. It’s Escada and you can find it here for $1,995. Feel free to send your Neiman Marcus gift cards my way, lol!

I ran into some fabulous blogger friends including Shannon from Glamorous Moms:

I also had to snap a selfie when I got home because I was obsessed with my new Velour lashes and didn’t want to take them off.

Velour

My biggest take away from reading all of the winner profiles were their style tips. Fashion helps them to express themselves and I really want to work on my personal style in the upcoming year. What do I want my clothes to say about me?

I would love to hear what “Best Dressed” means to you!

Scandal “Yes” Recap

This episode kicked off with Sally (Kate Burton) dropping the affair bomb to the public with photographic proof this time! Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) rushes down to the Oval Office to confront Abby (Darby Stanchfield) and Elizabeth (Portia de Rossi) about what has happened. He is stuck on how the photos were leaked, but it’s too late for that, that pictures are already out there. I liked Elizabeth’s black and white blouse and found this similar Brigitte Bailey Abbey Blouse ($35.99):

Elizabeth North

So what does Olivia (Kerry Washington) do with this? She runs away to a new case and avoids dealing with the situation. The President decides that he isn’t going to make a statement without Liv so they just stay in a holding pattern letting the media speculate their relationship. Olivia is on the run, on a new case and ends up borrowing Quinn’s (Katie Lowes) clothes. She wore a Free People Hooded Faux Leather Moto Jacket ($168):

Free People

Huck (Guillermo Diaz) comes back with Jake’s (Scott Foley) help, but Quinn doesn’t believe that he’s really reformed and tries to push his buttons. Meanwhile, Abby is getting tired of saying nothing during the press briefings and with a little push from Cyrus (Jeff Perry) she decides to take matters into her own hands. Elizabeth is not too happy with this and tries to set her straight, but she can’t handle the President any more than Abby can. Elizabeth wore an Alexander McQueen Pussy Bow Blouse ($1045). I liked this similar Vince Camuto Ruffle Hem Tie Neck Blouse ($89) to recreate the look:

Alexander McQueen pussy bow

Abby, with David’s (Joshua Malina) help, that Elizabeth is the one who leaked the photos to get back at Mellie and Abby demands that they be equals in order for her to keep that secret. Fitz takes Abby’s advice and apologizes to Mellie and they prepare to do a sit down interview. That is until Olivia drops a bomb of her own.

This episode was so confusing, I don’t understand why she won’t just be with Jake, she obviously has feelings for him. I was blown away at the ending. I can’t believe Olivia admitted being Fitz’s mistress that way! What did you think?
