My Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

Okay ladies, get it while it’s hot! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that is. I was turned onto the Nordstrom sale last year and was really excited to get in on the action this year.

For those of you that have no idea what this sale is or how to get involved, here is the lowdown. About a week before the sale goes live, Nordstrom card holders have the opportunity to log in and shop the sale. Now, before you say that you can’t have another store credit card, Nordstrom has a really cool debit card that you can hook up to your bank account. You can use it just like a regular debit card and you can still get all of the same points and perks that credit card holders get without racking up a big debt. 2014 Summer Favorites

I’m a little late to the party on this one, but I decided this year that I needed to get into summer a bit before I could tell you what my Summer Favorites were. I’m having a great summer so far and wanted to share my favorite things with you.

I just got this in the mail and it smells heavenly!

My manicurist had these on the other day and I had to track them down and get them for myself.

I still love my Tutti Frutti, but I need a good red color for summer and I think Lobster Roll is it!

La Blanca Sweetheart Swimsuit

I recently got this one piece and I love it! I have never had a better bathing suit shopping experience. This suit is so flattering and I love wearing it.

Coach Eyelet Tote

I am in love with this tote in Shell Pink. It would be the perfect summer accessory.

Cudas Catalina Water Shoe

I’ve been spending time on my friend’s boat and that requires water shoes to go on shore. I didn’t think I would be able to find any cute ones, but these were a steal at DSW.

I just got the pink/gold ones and I love them, they are so cute!

Venus Tie Dye Maxi Dress

I just updated my Ombre Look for Less post with this dress. During the summer I live in a maxi dress, the more the merrier and this is my latest favorite.

My beloved Nine West Lenal Wedges are falling apart. I have been scouting them on eBay but so far haven’t found any in my size yet. I have been lusting after these Stuart Weitzman Alex Wedges, that celebrities including Jennifer Aniston have been sporting but they were originally out of my price range. These black ones are on sale in my size and would be the perfect replacements for my wedges!

Save Your Skin with Meijer Beauty

Saturday was the first day of summer and while I was up in Traverse City celebrating my fourth wedding, some of you were out enjoying the sun. Maybe some of you are even recovering from sunburns this week. As a fair skinned person, I have to be extremely careful in the sun. I burn easily and find myself using SPF 100 frequently.

The sun has two different types of rays, UVA and UVB. UVA rays cause aging and UVB rays cause burns. The SPF rating on your sunscreen bottle tells you how long you can stay in the sun before you get burned by the sun’s UVB rays.

Even if you aren’t fair skinned like me, you want to make sure to protect your skin from the sun. Sun damage causes wrinkles, brown spots, aging and skin cancer which we don’t want.

My mom got a Clinique makeover a while back and I’ve been saving it for my next bonus post. They did an AMAZING job on her and we learned some great tips. My mom has hooded eyelids and we’ve always had a hard time figuring out eye makeup for her without making them look too dark. Our Clinique technician had some great tips and really brightened up my mom’s whole look.

She looks so beautiful in this “after” picture! I love all the colors they used and my mom, who never wore eye makeup, is now using it – and it looks awesome!

One of the tips our technician gave us was when you are applying eyeshadow in the crease of your eye, instead of sloping it down, bring your brush outward and up so it opens up your eyes. I had always down the windshield wiper technique myself so this was a great tip that I now use everyday!

If you’ve followed this blog you know how much I love my beauty products. So I was thrilled when Meijer sent me boxes full of great products to try. I am not a coupon person, so I was interested to learn more about Meijer’s mPerks program and how it could work for me.

mPerks has taken the coupon game and made it digital. All you have to do is download the Meijer mobile app on your smartphone or sign up at mPerks.com to locate the deals that you need. Once you’ve signed up you can start “clipping” your virtual coupons right in your app. At checkout, you enter your mPerks number and PIN at checkout to save instantly on your purchase.

When I’m not using Wen, or when I need a clarifying day, I love Suave Moroccon Infusion Shine Shampoo and Conditioner:

I love Ponds Cleansing Towlettes – I use them every night to take off my makeup. They are quick and easy and it ensures that I at least do that every night when I am tired. My favorite is the Lavender Evening Soothe scent:

I love Gillette Satin Care Shaving Cream with a Touch of Olay. This stuff is SO hard to find – but they always have it at Meijer so I don’t have to buy an off brand:

Lubriderm Lotion is another one of my staples. With my sensitive skin I can’t use a lot of scented lotions. I prefer the Advanced Therapy version and use it every day:

I will be shopping this weekend at Meijer and would love your tips on what beauty products I should stock up on during my trip. 5 on Friday: Bridesmaid Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

This weekend kicks off wedding season for the hubby and I. We have four weddings this year and I am a bridesmaid in two of them. This weekend, my husband and I are both in the wedding. I thought it would be fun to talk about some essential things to help you make it through the season.

1. Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray $30

You spray (I would say mist it) this on after all of your makeup is applied and it helps keep everything in place for up to 16 hours.

2. Still Standing Spray ($14.99-27.99)

Being a bridesmaid means spending long hours standing in heels. Since I broke my foot last year, this has been difficult for me. It is getting better, but it’s not quite 100 percent yet. That’s why I need Still Standing Spray. It instantly cools and refreshes your tired feet for 1-4 hours to keep you going all night long.

3. YSL Touche Eclat Touch Up Pen ($41)

This seems a little pricey, but it lasts forever. This is a purse must have along with some Q-tips. Everytime you visit the ladies room run a Q-tip under your eye to catch any smudged makeup or mascara. Then touch up your eyes with the Touche Eclat Pen. This instantly brightens up your look and makes it look like you are bright-eyed and bushy tailed. This is one of my must-have items!

4. Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant ($19)

I love this stuff! It smells great and stays on all day. One of those great things to keep you looking like you just got ready instead of looking like you had your makeup done at 8 a.m. and ran around taking pictures all day.

5. Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder ($34)

This powder is a must have for days when you are taking lots of pictures. It keeps your face shine free and the powder actually makes you glow, which makes your pictures look awesome. I keep a mini container in my purse for touch ups.

Capri is big this Spring, I have seen a number of different collections and designs inspired by Capri lately. I was shopping last week and found this Limoncello candle at Bath & Body Works. I LOVE anything Limoncello flavored and bought this for the house to start welcoming Spring!

I found this for one of my The Crazy Ones recaps and fell in love with it. This is the next item on my shopping list. Every girl needs a Spring floral to wear!

I have been rocking the Tutti Frutti lately, but really want a fun Spring nail color. I think Tropix is the perfect shade of coral for Spring.

Unfortunately, my calves are too big for the tall Hunter boots, so I decided that I would try the short ones instead. Then I found these adorable Spring colors in the short ones!

Every year Payless comes out with a shoe that I have to have. Last year, my Mom went on the hunt and secured them for me after hitting a bunch of stores. I am just as in love with the newest release this year. They are sold out in my size online, so let the hunt begin! I have been watching for a 10 on eBay and am going to check out some of the stores this weekend for my size.

Every year for as long as I can remember, I’ve had an Easter dress. This year will be no different. Things to keep in mind – your Easter dress should be colorful and floral. I’ve had my eye on this sheath dress.

Kate Spade Cedar Street Tote

A few weeks back we had a co-worker visit from another office and she had the most fabulous bag! It turned out to be this Kate Spade tote in robin’s egg blue (which just screams Tiffany). I had to have it for Spring!

5 on Friday: Academy Awards Edition

It’s time for another edition of Five on Friday with A Liz Adventures, The Good Life Blog, Hello Happiness and Carolina Charm.

I have been working extra hard lately at my day job which means late nights and not a lot of time for blogging. I hope this weekend will give me some time to catch up, but in the meantime I am enjoying keeping up with the 5 on Friday posts. It gives me something to look forward to every week.

I decided this week’s 5 on Friday would be about the Academy Awards. I used to love to host Oscar parties when I lived with my parents, but I haven’t had the chance to do one in the past few years. I was going to write this post about my favorite items from the 2014 gift bags, but I didn’t really see anything affordable that appealed to me. So I decided to create my own Detroit Duchess Academy Awards gift bags. Here are a few of glamorous things I would include in my gift bags:

I had this on my list last summer and thought it was sold out. Imagine my surprise when I found it in one of my searches! I think this is just darling.

What says Oscars more than a cocktail? I was actually in the market for a nice looking flask and when I stumbled upon this one I couldn’t resist. I love the Happy Hour text on the front.

Winter Favorites

Saturday was the first day of Winter, so I thought I would share some of my Winter favorites. In Michigan the weather is usually pretty snowy, wet and cold so you have to make sure to have the right gear.

Columbia Boots ($120)

I used to have a job where I had to stand outside in the cold and do media interviews. I had to have the right gear to keep my toes warm and these babies fit the bill. They are awesome for winter, whether you are at an outdoor sporting event or shoveling snow.

Wen Winter Cranberry Mint ($29)

I’ve been a Wen girl for pretty much the whole year now and I still love it. You can read more about my journey with Wen here. This is the latest seasonal scent from Chaz Dean.

Kate Spade Amelia Coat

I have long been looking for a coat to wear when I am dressed up and this is perfect! It isn’t available at the store anymore, I have been watching on my favorite place, eBay! You can find the Amelia coat here.

Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy

I am like the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding that sprays Windex on everything. Anytime someone has dry skin or chapped lips I just put some Neosporin on it. That’s why I love this overnight product from Neosporin!

JCrew Excursion Quilted Vest

Sarah wore this on Sean’s season of the Bachelor and I’ve had it on my watch list ever since. The hot pink version is my favorite. This is also another one I have been following on eBay, here.

Whoopie! Cream Shea Butter ($30)

I discovered this at a spa in Vegas and love it! It smells so delicious and I later found that it was featured on Oprah’s favorite things list in the past. It used to come in a jar, but now they have developed a new pumpable style.

Liz Claiborne White Cowl Neck Sweater on QVC ($29.86)

I originally posted this as one of my looks for less from The Bachelorette Week 4. I ended up buying it for myself and it is my favorite thing to wear this winter. I may have to get another color.

CND Shellac/Vinylux in Steel Gaze

This is a fun holiday color and it would be great to spice things up!

Kensie Embellished Sweatshirt ($24.97)

These sweatshirts are all the rage, and I thought this one with both leather and embellishments was double the trouble!

Cliffs by White Mountain Freewill Boot

I have never been able to find a boot that fit my calf, but these do the trick. I randomly found them on Black Friday and since I can’t wear heels yet, these have been awesome! For any girls with larger calves, these are the answer!

5 on Friday: His Christmas Wish List

Since I did my Christmas Wish List a few weeks back, I figured it was only fair that I did one for him. Most of these items would be great for those of you that haven’t shopped for your significant other yet.

1. Shinola Watch

If you aren’t from Michigan, you may not have heard about Shinola yet. Shinola decided to reignite watch manufacturing in the United States and they chose Detroit to launch their business. My husband and I think it is so cool to have such amazing watches made right here in Detroit. For those of you not in Detroit, you can buy Shinola watches at Nordstrom. My husband really wants the 47mm one below:

2. Dollar Shave Club

So my husband recently joined the Dollar Shave Club. He heard about it from a friend and it is a cool concept. Dollar Shave Club is a subscription service that delivers high quality razors every month. You can get different packages for $1, $6 or $9 depending on your preference. You get 4-5 cartridges each month depending on the plan you choose. You can see the plans here. What a great deal! This basically means that you can use a new razor every week. Ladies you can even get this for yourself, they allow you to add on another person to your account if you would like to. Check out the video for more details:

3. Detroit Tigers Cuff Links

We actually got these for the groomsmen in our wedding party and I love to see the guys wearing them. John wore his to work today and they look really sharp. You can buy them here at Kohl’s. If you aren’t a Detroit fan, don’t worry, they have all of the other teams available too.

4. Personalized Watch Box

My husband loves watches as much as I love shoes. He has a nice collection going now, but could really use a place to keep everything. He’s mentioned getting a box like this for a while and I thought this one would look really nice on his nightstand.

5. Purifying Light Sanitizing Cutting Board System

My husband is a great chef and loves to cook. It’s sort of funny because whenever I try to make something, he is always poking around to see what I’m doing, he can’t help it, he just loves it. The big difference between us is that I have to follow a recipe and he can just make up his own as he goes. He loves gadgets like this and is really big into sanitizing all of the tools in the kitchen (I’m glad he is, because without him I would probably poison us all, lol). These cutting boards are awesome, they have different ones for each type of food and then they are sanitized by 20 minutes of exposure to a UV-C light.
