Halloween Makeup

I attended a Halloween party last weekend with a few girlfriends and had a lot of fun with my makeup. I decided that I didn’t want to buy a whole costume and went with things that I already had in my closet to create a fun devil’s costume.

I decided to play up my makeup and have it done at Sephora by the fabulous Nico. Apologies for the weird picture selfie, but I was trying to get you a good view of my eye makeup. If you didn’t know, you can make an appointment at Sephora to have your makeup done with a minimum $50 purchase. They do Halloween makeup and more!

There were a few products that Nico used on me that I really liked and I figured I would share them with you!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Primer ($20)

I had never heard of this before, but Nico used this for the gold glitter on my eyes. It worked great, nothing moved the entire night.

Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum ($28.50)

I was all out of my lash primer and Nico recommended this one for me to try. This was one of the things that I purchased and so far I really like it.

NARS Audacious Lipstick ($32)

I hadn’t tried a NARS lipstick before and I really liked this one. I can’t remember the exact color she used, I think it might have been Audrey.

nars

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Mattifying Oil Free ($55)

I thought this foundation provided great coverage.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder ($24)

This stuff is my jam! I recently started using it after a trip to the Laura Mercier counter. I use it under my eyes on top of my concealer and love it. Nico used this on my entire face.

OPI Big Apple Red ($7.79)

You may not be able to tell from the picture, but I had a manicure that day with OPI’s Big Apple Red with the gel version on my fingers and the regular one on my toes.

I had a great time at the party and received so many compliments on my makeup so thank you to Nico and Sephora for making me look fabulous!

Friday Favorites: Breast Cancer Awareness

I know sometimes that October can be a little crazy with all of the Breast Cancer Awareness, but I am one person that doesn’t mind. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and she is my inspiration. She is the strongest person I know and I hope that I can be half as strong as she is if I ever have to face the disease. I thought I would share some of my favorite products supporting Breast Cancer Awareness this month and make it my personal goal this month to support research this month. I am going to go a little over five this week, but I think it will be worth it:

1. Bobbi Brown Pretty Pink Ribbon Lip Gloss Collection ($60)

This great set includes four pink glosses including Pretty Pink Sheer, Pink Tulle High Shimmer, Bright Lilac and Soiree Pink Shimmer. Bobbi Brown will donate $12 of every sale to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

2. Tory Burch York Small Buckle Tote ($245) and Tory Burch Kerrington Zip Continental Wallet ($185)

Tory Burch is donating 20% of these purchases to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation up to $35,000. I LOVE the wallet so much!

 3. La Mer Breast Cancer Awareness Hand Treatment ($45)

This is the most luxurious stuff out there and would make a wonderful gift. La Mer is donating a portion of each purchase to the Breast Cancer Research Fund.

4. Stella & Dot Strength Bracelet ($39)

100% of the proceeds from this adorable elephant bracelet benefits the Noreen Fraser Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for women’s cancer research and creating awareness of the importance of early detection.

5. Smashbox Limited Edition Breast Cancer Research Be Legendary Lip Gloss ($20) and BCA Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($36)

$5 from the primer will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, it is unclear how much of the proceeds of the lip gloss are donated.

6. Gaiam Forever Pink Yoga Mat ($21.98)

I’ve previously mentioned my 100 Day Yoga Challenge and it would be fun to get this mat to use for October. $1 from every mat purchase is donated to breast cancer research.

7. Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Breast Cancer Awareness Eau de Parfum Rollerball Duo ($45)

I’ve talked about how the Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant is one of my favorites and it is awesome that Donna Karan will donate 20% of the proceeds of this sale to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

8. Coach Legacy Sport 2014 Breast Cancer Awareness Watch ($298)

Coach is donating 10% of the purchase price of this beautiful watch to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

9. Eminence Sweet Red Rose Whip Moisturizer

10. 2013 ONEHOPE California Chardonnay ($18.99)

Now you can have your wine and donate too! Half of the proceeds of the One Hope Chardonnay go to fight breast cancer.

11. Clinique Pink with a Purpose Long Last Lipstick ($16)

$3.00 from this purchase will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

12. Nine West Tatiana ($79)

I think I may have saved the best for last – at least we are changing up the color! Nine West partnered with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer to create a limited edition shoe, the Tatiana. With or without this particular shoe, Nine West will donate $10 to FTBC for every blue “shoefie” you post to Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #9WFTBC. I think the only blue shoes I have are my wedding shoes, so I will have to kick it off with that.

Fall 2014 Favorites

It’s that time of year again! Time for my Fall Favorites! I refuse to do this post at the beginning of September, because I like to hold on to the last days of summer. This week was the beginning of fall and I am finally starting to get into the season. I think this post has definitely helped to get me excited. Here are my favorite items for fall (links are in the headings):

Snakeskin Print Clutch ($26.97)

I’ve mentioned this before and since then snakeskin has blown up for fall. I did buy this for myself and I can’t wait to rock it at an upcoming event.

snakeskin

Leinenkugel’s Cranberry Ginger Shandy

As soon as I saw this I wanted to try it. I love the other seasonal beers and I thought this one would be perfect for fall.

Skinny Jeans

I may be the only person that has never worn skinny jeans. Mostly because I could never find any boots that would fit my lovely wide calves. I ended up finding the perfect boots last year and ever since then have been thinking about trying some skinny jeans. I am going to try Gap’s 1969 curvy skinny jeans, but would love to hear what skinny jeans you love and have a little bass like I do. Also…why do they call them skinny jeans? Is it to make me feel bad for not being skinny? Do you think they could come up with a better name, like silhouette jeans or something…

skinny jeans

Wen Fall Formulas ($32.82)

There are so many fall scents this year, I don’t know where to start. We have Fall Ginger Pumpkin, Fall Apple Spice and new this year, Fall Tuscan Pear. I love the Pumpkin and Apple Spice, so I can’t wait to try the Tuscan Pear! Check out my original post on the benefits of Wen.

wen fall

Halogen Belted Pleat Front Dress ($99)

I must admit that I’ve had trouble with the plaid trend. I am a girly girl and this just reminds me of my plaid, flannel shirts from the grunge era. I can’t bring myself to do it. I was looking for a way to incorporate plaid into my wardrobe and I found this dress that is perfect for me. I could dress it up with a blazer and tights or with a leather jacket for evening. I think this fits right in with my girly girl look.

halogen plaid dress

Trophy Leather Skirt

I mentioned in my Saks Fall Trend post that Trophy Skirts would be big for fall. We also saw Bachelorette Andi Dorfman rocking her leather skirts, which has made me think that I could pull it off. I found two great options to meet any budget. The first is this Halogen Pleat Leather Skirt ($228) and the second is Karen Kane’s Faux Leather Skater Skirt ($99).

leather trophy skirts

Witches Brew ($5.99)

This is the perfect fall wine from Leelanau Cellars right here in Michigan. You can serve it warm or chilled, but it is so much fun to warm it up on the stove during a party.

LEELANAUWITCHESBREWSPICED

Hue ‘Ultra’ Wide Waistband Leggings ($36)

So to continue with the skinny jeans discussion, last year I bought my first pair of leggings. I ended up loving these leggings by Hue! I only have one sweater to wear with them so I need to figure out more looks.

hue

OPI Russian Navy ($9.50)

I thought this was a great fall color and have already received a few compliments on it. As usual, I got the gel color on my fingers and the regular polish on my toes.

Leopard Heels

So I am torn between the Loft Leopard Haircalf Modern Pumps ($98) and the Steve Madden Galleryl ($99.95). I think I need to try both on to make a final decision. Does anyone have these and can lend feedback?

Back-to-School with #MeijerBeauty

I received beauty products from Meijer to help promote Meijer Beauty Perks. All opinions expressed are my own.

When I was younger, I used to love going back to school. It was a time to get organized, buy colorful binders and folders and a new outfit and get back into a routine. Now, I am no longer going back to school, but fall is always a great time to get back into a new routine. I feel like summer is all about breaking the rules and having fun – many of you might forget to remove your makeup every night or throw out expired products, fall is the time to get back to business.

Let’s start with skincare. You should be washing, exfoliating and moisturizing your face every day. I had heard great things about the CeraVe line at Meijer and decided to check it out. I originally saw this article talking about how Emily Maynard used it as part of her skincare routine.

I purchased the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser and the CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion.

cerave

I also like to give myself a weekly facial, where I do my at home microdermabrasion (more to come on that later) followed by a face mask. I was thrilled when I was at Meijer to see the Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips again. I couldn’t find them for a long time and I like to use them before I do the face mask.

biore

While I was shopping I came across this handy little blackhead/whitehead remover. I haven’t had one of these in years, but picked it up. This is a great tool to use following my weekly facial.

remover

Next up is refreshing my makeup. Did you know that most makeup products have an expiration date? While the products might still look okay, they may not work as well or could cause break outs or irritation. Here are some guidelines:

Mascara

Mascara has a shelf life of three months. If it starts getting clumpy or flaky once you’ve applied it, then you should toss it. I NEVER share mascara, it is a good way to spread germs. If someone wants to borrow my mascara I just let them keep it or toss it and then replace it with a new one. One of my favorite brands is Maybelline The Falsies.

the falsies

Eyeliners

I like using gel eyeliners, which come in a pot. It’s important to screw the caps on tight to keep them from drying out. Eyeliners will last for about 4-6 months.

Foundation & Concealer

Foundation and concealer have a shelf life of 6-12 months. If it starts separating, you want to toss it. Most of the time you’ll use it up before you get to that point.

Lipstick, Lip Gloss & Lipliner

Lipstick, lip gloss and lipliner has a shelf life of 1-2 years I probably need to throw away all of my old glosses and lipsticks.

Nail Polish

The shelf life of nail polish is about 1-2 years. You can tell it’s time to replace it when it starts getting goopy.

Eye Shadow, Blush & Powders

Any type of powder will only be good for about two years. By keeping your brushes clean and sanitized, it will help keep your makeup cleaner.

While I was shopping, I got this new palate from Cover Girl for some fall looks.

cover girl

Perfume

Any fragrance will last for 8-10 years, so feel free to invest in a lot of different perfumes because they can stay around for a long time.

So there you have it…let’s get back into our beauty routines and clean out our makeup drawers.

What are your best back-to-school beauty tips?

Tools of the Trade: Clarisonic

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a long time and to sum it up in a few words – if you aren’t using a Clarisonic yet, you should be. Let me tell you why.

I first received my Clarisonic for my birthday last year and loved using it. My mom got it through a QVC deal so it came with some Peter Thomas Roth products.

clarisonic-tsv-5.11.2013

I had only been using it for a few months and I had to go on a business trip where I left it in my hotel room. The hotel was never able to find it and I suspect a cleaning lady got a very nice Clarisonic that day.

The interesting part of this story is after a few weeks of not using my Clarisonic, my skin was terrible. I couldn’t believe what a difference the Clarisonic had made and I didn’t even realize it until I couldn’t use it anymore. I immediately ordered a new Clarisonic and have been happy ever since.

So before you decide to get one for yourself, let me tell you what the Clarisonic is and the science behind it.

You may have seen many other cleansing devices that look similar to the Clarisonic, but let me share the difference. The Clarisonic is a sonic micro-massage tool that deeply cleanses your skin. The Clarisonic doesn’t spin or vibrate, it oscillates at over 300 movements per second. This loosens dirt and oil to cleanse your pores, which in turn allows your skin to absorb your cleansers, toners and moisturizes better than before.

Here is a link to a more detailed easy-to-read research study if you want to know more: Clarisonic Clinical Study

Now that you know why you should get a Clarisonic, which one should you get?

I personally use the Mia 2 because it is foolproof to use. It has a timer so as you are using it, it vibrates to let you know when to change position. It offers two speeds, low and normal. When you cleanse your face with the Clarisonic, you cleanse your forehead for 20 seconds, each cheek for 10 seconds and your nose and chin for 20 seconds.

The other great feature of the Mia 2 is that you can use it multiple times before you have to recharge it again. I usually only end up having to charge it maybe once a month or less.

I have the pink crocodile Mia 2, which is unavailable right now. Sephora has a fun Hollywood Lights limited edition Clarisonic Mia 2 that is see through and lights up. I would probably get this one for myself if I didn’t already have one.

p384712-av-02-hero

Here is a quick video on how to use your Mia 2:

There are a ton of different brush heads and you have to determine which one is right for you. In any case, you should change your brush head once every three months.

I hope this answered all of your questions about the Clarisonic. In the future, I hope to try out other Clarisonic devices and share my favorites with you.

Have you used the Clarisonic? What do you think about it?

Beauty Review: Baby Foot Peel

I first heard of the Baby Foot Peel from my friend Erin who posted about it on Facebook. Imagine my surprise when there was a beauty product I had never heard of before. I immediately set out to learn everything I could about what the heck the Baby Foot Peel was.

IMG_2446

Turns out, it is a pretty awesome idea, natural foot exfoliation. This was music to my ears because lately getting a pedicure is like torture for me, I have become so ticklish that it is hard to get through all of the scrubbing and buffing required to keep my feet sandal ready. So I was game to test this out. I also have been reading that filing your feet actually creates more dead skin and requires your calluses to grow back even stronger.

How it Works

Baby Foot Peel uses 17 different natural extracts which peel the dead skin from your feet. The main ingredient is Fruit Acid, or Alpha Hydroxy Acid  (AHA) which reduces the adhesive (desmosomes) that hold dead skin together.

Diagram from Baby Foot USA

Diagram from Baby Foot USA

I had some big calluses from sandals and heels and recently my heel calluses have started to crack from wearing sandals too much. I took some before pictures so you can get an idea of the results. I get pedicures every two weeks and this was at the end of a two week period.

Baby Foot Peel Befor

How to Use it

To use Baby Foot Peel, you can purchase it from their website for $25. When you first get to the site there will be a prompt for your email address and they will send you a 10% off coupon, so I recommend doing that.

The kit comes with two foot booties and tape to help you secure the booties.

IMG_2453

After reading various reviews, it is recommended that you soak your feet for about an hour before you put on the booties. I wish I would have done this, but I was in a hurry, so I just put them on after a shower. The booties will take off some of your nail polish, so I would do this before you paint your nails. I also would not recommend moving around in the booties. The mixture makes it slippery and it is easy to slip and fall. You could always put socks on over them if you really needed to walk around.

IMG_2454

Once you use the booties, the peeling could start anywhere from a few days to a week. The whole process takes about two weeks. The more you soak your feet the faster it comes off. You’ll notice it more when you get out of the shower. Some people even recommend to soak your feet a few times a week during this process. When I do this again I will definitely soak my feet more throughout the process.

Results

It took about a week for me to see any significant results. At first, your feet will get very dry, but resist the urge to put lotion on them. That is just the Baby Foot Peel working its magic.

When you Google search Baby Foot Peel pictures, you end up seeing crazy pictures of people’s skin peeling off like a snakeskin. My results weren’t that dramatic. The process was more like flaking or having all of your dead skin crumble off. I was able to go about my business and wear sandals and pumps for the most part. A few days the tops and sides of my skin were flaking off which was a little embarrassing when I was heading to a meeting, but that was the worst of it.

Here is the play-by-play of what happened:

Baby Foot Results collage

The big question is would I do the Baby Foot Peel again?

Yes, I would. I initially expected more from the peel, but I did see good results. It significantly reduced my calluses and overall did a great job, without have to get a full pedicure. It didn’t fully get rid of my calluses, but I think it could if I continue to use it on a regular basis.

You can do Baby Foot again after waiting two weeks from your initial application. This is probably something I would do once a quarter to keep my calluses in check. The next time I do it, I will definitely soak my feet more to see if I get even better results. Baby Foot Peel recommends that you do this once every two months. I’m not sure if I could deal with my feet peeling that often, which is why I will start with once a quarter.

Have you tried Baby Foot Peel? What were your results?

Live Radiantly with Arm & Hammer

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Whenever people ask me what my favorite feature is, I always say my smile. It might seem cliche, but I frequently get compliments on my smile and most of my friends joke that I am always smiling in every picture. My husband even refers to me as his little ball of sunshine. So when I was approached by Arm & Hammer for their Truly Radiant campaign, I couldn’t turn it down! photo 8459fa08-2d0c-4267-9059-1023f2c23b39_zps7c4cddb2.jpgI received an Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant Spin Brush, Toothpaste and Whitening Booster to test out. The key benefits of Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant are cleaning, strengthening, and whitening for a more radiant smile. Who doesn’t want a more radiant smile? photo 059fbb92-c308-4938-a715-8ec38137b9e3_zps01fba501.jpg photo ae9dd050-f8dc-4296-814b-40f081fe86b1_zpsac10838f.jpg

I hadn’t used an electric toothbrush in years, but I discovered that my husband was actually using this same toothbrush and loves it. I don’t drink coffee and have never smoked so in the past I haven’t been too worried about whitening my teeth. But lately, I have been enjoying more red wine which can leave annoying red stains on your teeth.

The Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant Whitening Booster is clinically proven to whiten teeth in just one week and contains 3x more whitening agent than a leading white strip. When you brush your teeth, just add the toothpaste to your brush and then add the clear whitening booster on top of it:

arm and hammer

I loved using the spinbrush and thought it did a great job cleaning my teeth! I also liked that the ingredients are paste with baking soda, peroxide and active calcium and it is a fluoride anticavity toothpaste. It also doesn’t have a strong mint taste so I will have to let my husband try it out. He doesn’t like anything mint flavored which is a challenge when buying toothpaste because there aren’t a lot of other options.

I learned that the Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant Spinbrush removes 100 percent more plaque than a manual toothbrush. I actually put this to the test a few weeks after I started using it when I had a dentist appointment and cleaning. I got high marks and no cavities! They even remarked what a good job I was doing cleaning my teeth. I am also loving the spinbrush, it is so fun and easy to use and I feel like it is really doing a great job cleaning my teeth.

If you are interested in trying the Truly Radiant products yourself, Arm & Hammer has some coupons on their website. This one is for $2.00 off the spinbrush and this one is for .50 cents off the toothpaste.

Since my smile is my best feature, I thought it was fun that Alison Sweeney, the spokesperson for Arm & Hammer, shared some of her tips to bring out your inner radiance.  I thought I would share a few of my own:

  • Always look your best wherever you go. Even if you don’t feel the same way on the inside. I always find that when I look my best, that confidence starts to creep in and lifts my mood.
  • A smile is contagious. If you smile then others around you will smile too. Nothing makes you look more beautiful than a smile.
  • Drink lots of water. Your body is made up of mostly water so if you want a healthy glow you have to stay well hydrated.
  • Do Yoga or meditate regularly. I like Yoga because it sort of forces you to turn off your brain and focus on a specific mantra. I always feel like a new person afterwards.
  • This might sound weird, but I like to have physical contact with someone everyday. Whether it is hugging, handholding or whatever I think touch is important. It always makes me feel happy and connected with my friends and family.

How do you live radiantly every day?
