The Good Wife “Innocents” Recap

This week starts in bond court again, but Alicia (Julianna Marguiles) gets a substantial case with a young man trying to protect his likeness. She even needs an investigator and starts interviewing a few, including Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). She wore a cross dyed blazer, which was hard to find, but this Cloetta Flecked Cotton Blazer ($129.99) is similar:

cloetta

Alicia’s case takes a turn when she decides to go up against a museum to block an exhibit displaying naked pictures of her client. The museum is represented by Nancy Crozier (Mamie Gummer) who is always delightfully annoying. Alicia wore an elegant black and white blazer. This Calvin Klein Colorblocked Draped Blazer doesn’t necessarily match this look, but it is similar.

Calvin Klein2

Nancy is the character you love to hate, Mamie Gummer is amazing in this role. She wore the Escada Dkama Dress ($1495). This Milly Daphne Colorblock Sheath Dress ($435) is similar:

Escada

Both Alicia and Diane (Christine Baranski) and Cary (Matt Czuchry) are looking for a new investigator now that Kalinda is gone. I don’t understand what happened to Robin, she was pretty good. Alicia started with one investigator who dropped the ball and messed things up for them in court. Alicia fired her and went to Jason, who is also interviewing with Cary. Diane wore a chic mustard sheath. This Tahari Tiered Sheath Dress ($124) is similar:

Tahari

Jason Crouse is already getting his money’s worth, coming up with a new angle for Alicia to use on the second day in court. She wore a hook and eye closure, pinstripe blazer. I found this Stellita Fit Wool Stripe Jacket ($159.20) that is somewhat similar:

Pinstripe blazer

Nancy is having a hard time with this line of questioning, not to mention the judge needs to call a recess because of his loud stomach issues. She knows they’ve got her on this one. She wore an Escada Draped Plaid Sheath ($1425). This V-Neck Sheath Dress ($69.95) is a good look for less:

Escada plaid

Cary is playing with fire with Howard Lyman (Jerry Adler). He tricks him into going to Diane’s lunch and making a fool out of himself and she isn’t happy. Diane wore a cool graphic long coat with her black sheath. This Kasper Print Shantung Topper ($69.50) doesn’t have the same color palette but is similar to a statement coat that we would probably see Diane in.

long jacket

At the end of the day, you can’t break the mother/son bond and Alicia is out of case. Nevertheless, things are looking up as Jason turns down Diane’s offer and decides to be Alicia’s investigator. Eli (Alan Cumming) also wins some ground with Peter (Chris Noth).

This was a fun episode and I love Grace (MacKenzie Vega) as Alicia’s assistant. She is on top of it!

Five on Friday: Gilmore Girls Edition

There was a big Gilmore Girls announcement this week and I am pumped to hopefully get more closure on one of my favorite shows. You can read more about the announcement here. I figured what better way to celebrate then to do a Gilmore Girls themed Five on Friday. Here are five fun items and things to incorporate into your celebratory viewing party.

1. Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge

As every Gilmore Girls fan knows, Rory is a big fan of books. Buzzfeed has compiled a list of all the books referenced throughout the series in what is known as the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge. Maybe this will tide you over until the Netflix series launches.

2. Drama Queen Journal ($9.99)

This is so cute and I would totally rock it!

3. Gilmore Girls Drinking Game

Wine of the Week: Witches Brew

This week’s wine is Leelanau Cellar’s Witches Brew. Leelanau is a Michigan winery started in 1974 in Northern Michigan by the Jacobson family. Leelanau (Lee-La-Naw) is an Indian word meaning “Delight of Life.” They also have a tasting room outside of Traverse City which I’ve previously visited.

Witches Brew is the perfect fall wine. It’s a red blend enhanced with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and other natural spices.

witches brew

Witches Brew is what you would call a mulled wine. A red wine that has been warmed and spiced. You heat it up on your stove and serve it warm. You can also add fun things like cloves, cinnamon sticks or orange zest. Really anything goes. Mulled wine dates back to 1420 in Germany where they call it Gluhwein (roughly translated to “glow wine.” There have even been documented mulled wines as far back as ancient Rome.

witches brew

Have you tried Witches Brew yet? It’s perfect for a tailgate or any outdoor event. I would love to hear what you think about it.

Five on Friday: House Wish List

We bought our first home last December and although we have settled in, I am still working on decorating it. I didn’t realize how expensive it could be! We have some holiday visitors coming up and are planning to host Thanksgiving dinner which makes me want to cross off a few more items on the house wish list. I thought I would share the next five big items on my list for this week’s Five on Friday.

1. Artcraft Cascade Chrome Bubble Chandelier ($325)

I saw this in a local boutique and fell in love with it. I was going to save up and get it at the store, but they didn’t keep it in stock long enough. Thank goodness I found it online. This will be SO perfect in our dining room and I can’t wait to get it.

Chandelier

2. Skyline Tufted Storage Bench ($234.99)

This is made by the same company as our tufted headboard so it would match perfectly with our bedroom decor. We wanted a bench at the foot of the bed and this is just the thing!

storage bench

3. Bar Cabinet ($249)

We’ve been on the hunt for a liquor cabinet for the other side of our dining room. We already have a great wine cabinet, but there is no place to store any liquor…a.k.a. all the bourbon we got on our recent vacation. John saw this one in the Art Van catalog and its the best one we’ve seen so far. The picture in the catalog had more detail so you could see how the top opened up and you could set it up to serve drinks or store liquor. And we may as well be honest, I could probably use more wine storage anyways, haha!

bar cabinet

4. Kimaya Navy Area Rug ($750.03)

We need an area rug for the dining room and I am really stuck on our wedding colors, navy, silver and pearl. We painted the room gray and it has white trim so with the chandelier it would look really elegant.

5. Kate Spade Belle Boulevard China

I really want to finish my china place settings. We have a few pieces from our registry, but I would like to finish my set so I could actually entertain with it for the holidays.

Throwback Thursday: Our Engagement Pictures

For this month’s Throwback Thursday post, I thought I would share some of our engagement pictures. We got engaged on July 4, 2009 but didn’t take engagement pictures until the fall of 2010 since our wedding wasn’t until May 2011. You can read about my other posts in this series starting with our engagement story here followed by our engagement party here.

IMG_9947-1054193506-O

One of the girls in my office was getting hers taken this week and we were chatting about her wedding plans and it just made me smile thinking of that time in our life. I absolutely adore our engagement photos and am so happy that we took them. Our photographers were great and really captured what we were feeling. We went with Keberly Photography and they were wonderful to work with, I would highly recommend them for anything.

IMG_9475-1032901358-O

John and I were pretty unanimous in wanting to take our pictures on the University of Michigan – Dearborn’s campus. That’s were we met through our fraternity and sorority. We both had a lot of great memories there and the campus is just beautiful.

IMG_9935-1047470588-O

Our photographers knew we were into sports, so we brought a football along with us for staging purposes. They had an idea for us, which involved John throwing a football in the air and not catching it or looking at it to get the shot. That ended up being so difficult for him and we had a number of different takes, but we both LOVE how the picture turned out.

IMG_9180-1054178459-O

IMG_9081-1047472035-O

IMG_9148-1054169181-O

We had a costume change for a more casual look. I think I loved these pictures more than John because he looks SO handsome in all of them. The camera loves him!

IMG_0143-1055368288-O

IMG_0216-1055377341-O

I love this picture because it is just so silly. Plus that is John’s real smile, not his fake picture smile (I was obviously trying to make him laugh). I want to hang this one in our bathroom. It cracks us up.

IMG_0392-1056738192-O

We also brought our Greek letter sweatshirts so we could get a picture on the rock that we used to paint in college. One of our memorable dating moments happened one night when John came out and helped me and another sister “steal” the rock.

IMG_9506-1056743113-O

I want to frame this one in the man cave, it’s so fun, especially for football season.

IMG_0002-1054206852-O

These are a few of my favorites from our engagement shoot. There were a lot more, but these are the ones we used on our wedding website and save the dates.

I would love to hear about your engagement photos, so fill me on what places and staging ideas were your favorites!

Scandal “Paris is Burning” Recap

After Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) revelation that she is Fitz’s (Tony Goldwyn) mistress, Abby (Darby Stanchfield) has to stop the interview with Mellie (Bellamy Young) to deny the affair. I loved Mellie’s Lela Rose Fitted Lace Sheath Dress ($1795). This Marc New York Lace Sheath Dress ($148) is similar:

Lela Rose

I loved what Abby did with the Secret Service to stop the interview. What a smart move! As soon as Mellie and Fitz figure out what’s happening, Olivia shows up in the Oval Office. Mellie is furious and Fitz orders her to leave until they figure out what they’re going to say. Olivia wore a Christian Dior coat. This Autumn Cashmere Double Face Knit Coat ($396) is similar:

Christian Dior

Mellie calls in Cyrus (Jeff Perry) to negotiate for her and aside for wanting to stick it to Olivia and Fitz, she wants the Oval. Olivia is inclined to agree to all of Mellie’s demands and keep her happy, while Fitz doesn’t seem to care about anything other than this relationship. Olivia wore a Vince Cross Stitch Double Layer Tank ($248). This Everleigh Double Layer Tank ($68) is similar:

Vince

I loved the scene between Olivia and Mellie in the closet where she gets Olivia to reconsider her decision. Being the First Lady isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be and I think Olivia finally realizes what she is giving up to be with Fitz.

Fitz isn’t willing to give up and goes and talks to Mellie and gives her a heartfelt apology and basically charms the pants off of her. She buys the whole thing until Cyrus, angry about Fitz’s cold brush off, tells her that she got played. Then the best moment of the episode happens…Cyrus and Mellie give the symbolic finger to Fitz and leave without doing the interview. Mellie wore a black Marni Herringbone Print Dress ($1630). This Ralph Lauren Houndstooth Print Dress ($139) is similar:

Marni

I love Mellie’s character and was so proud of her for finally sticking up for herself. This is going to be one hell of a season!

On a side note, Jake (Scott Foley) pays a visit to Papa Pope (Joe Morton) because in other news, the Louvre is burning and that means something else is happening.

What did you think about everyone’s choices in this episode and what are Eli and Jake up to?

If you missed it, you can still watch it here.

The Good Wife “Bond” Recap

You have to admire someone that loses everything after being humiliated and then picks herself back up and starts right back at the bottom. That’s what I love about Alicia (Julianna Marguilles) – the whole show is about she picks herself back up and that is such an admirable quality. Alicia wore a black, collarless jacket to bond court. I found this Calvin Klein Zip-Pocket Collarless Blazer ($77.99) to recreate her look:

calvin klein

The judge in bond court doesn’t want anything to do with Alicia because he’s afraid she’ll slow him down. Just as she’s trying to argue her point and convince him, Louis Canning (Michael J. Fox) shows up and takes her to lunch. He tries to hire her again and she tells him that he’s the devil.

I also have to note how cute Grace (Mackenzie Vega) is stepping in as Alicia’s secretary. Like mother, like daughter. Alicia finally gets a case to work on with a potential $8 million inheritance.

I could NOT believe that Peter (Chris Noth) betrayed Eli (Alan Cumming) the way he did. After everything Eli did for him. That was just shitty. How quickly he forget where he started now that he is relevant again. I did not see that one coming.

Back at Lockhart, Agos, Lee, Cary (Matt Czuchry) is definitely starting to notice that he is surrounded by old people and he longs to go hang out with the associates. Diane (Christine Baranski) and David Lee (Zach Grenier) have taken on the other side of Alicia’s case and are strategizing on how to win. Diane wore a floral Etro blazer. This Michael Kors Printed Soft Blazer ($78) is a similar look for less:

Etro

Alicia is still trying to be a bar attorney, but the judge doesn’t want anything to do with her because he thinks she’ll slow him down. She gets a little friendly encouragement from Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo), a new bond court attorney, and the judge gives her a few cases to try out. Alicia wore a Gucci Wool Blazer (sold out). I liked this Red Ultimate Double Weave 24 Inch Jacket ($128) to recreate the look:

Gucci

Back at the inheritance case, David Lee, Diane and Alicia bring in a bevy of glue and adhesive experts to comically try and resolve which side was to be awarded the $8 million painting. Alicia wore a Printed Tweed Jacket by Narciso Rodriguez ($1,995). This Ivanka Trump Faux Leather Trim Marled Sweater Jacket ($71.40) is similar:

Narciso Roderiguez

Diane wore a sold out Proenza Schouler Striped Crepe Peplum Jacket (also worn by Kerry Washington on Scandal). I found this similar Kasper Colorblocked Patterned Blazer ($54.99) to recreate the look:

proenza schuler

Things got a little crazy after this. Eli decided that he wanted to be Alicia’s chief of staff to really push Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale) out and get his job back. I really love Eli and Alicia’s relationship. They get each other.

Alicia gets stuck in bond court doing Lucca a favor and can’t make it to her regular hearing. She asks Lucca to step in and get a continuance, but the judge refuses and forces her to participate. Lucca ends up saving the day and the case and Alicia is back in business! Unfortunately, she finds out that Louis Canning fed her this case because he wants to hire her. He tells her that he will stop sending cases her way if she wants, but she doesn’t refuse. My prediction – she will end up working for him this season.

This episode was crazy and I loved every second of it! I can’t wait until the next episode!

You can still watch it here if you missed it.

Five on Friday: Champagne Edition

Ladies and gentleman…I must present to you – The Chambong! One of my friends introduced this to me last week and I couldn’t believe my eyes! I feel like this was made just for me as I love champagne! I decided to make this week’s post all about champagne.

Chambong

The Chambong is a mere $25 and is dishwasher safe! Their logo is an elephant named Champy, I don’t really see how this could be any better. I’m definitely getting one for my next party, you can see how it works in this video:

Once you get your Chambong, you must add this Press For Champagne Framed Vintage Button ($92) and yes, it rings.

press for champagne

I found this Champagne Burlap Table Runner ($24) while I was searching for something else and thought it was super cute!

Champagne table runner

I’ve mentioned this Jonathan Adler Champagne Pop Candle ($42) before and it’s still just as awesome! I mean, they describe it as “New Year’s Eve, silk-satin sheets, a million bucks.” They also have vodka and bourbon versions.

Last but not least is a graphic tee, which I love, this Will Wake Up For Champagne Tee ($25). Perfect for brunch and you could dress it up with some fun jewelry. It also comes in gold print.

Which ones are your favorites? And more importantly, will you be trying the Chambong?

Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show

Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show. Additionally, Hour Magazine is a client of my employer. All opinions expressed are my own.

On September 24, I attended Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show at the Fillmore Detroit and had so much fun! Upon arrival there were fun drinks and appetizers and networking with my fellow bloggers and coworkers. Now, what does one where to a Best Dressed Fashion Show? I’m not going to lie, it was a little intimidating, but I liked what I ended up with.

hour detroit 3

Hour’s Best Dressed Fashion Show is a fundraiser to benefit the Detroit Institute of Arts’ Founders Junior Council, an organization I’ve been watching for some time. They host really fun and fashionable events for the younger generation interested in the DIA. Somerset Collection also sponsored the event including the fashion show by Neiman Marcus. Prior to the event, Hour awarded 11 people in the local community  the title of “Best Dressed.” Each of the awardees has the opportunity to walk the runway as part of the fashion show (How cool is that?). You can see the full list of Best Dressed here. Two of the winners, Kacee Must and Niki Serras talk about their unique looks in the segment below:

Kacee Must is the owner of Citizen Yoga and I have actually taken her yoga class before, so how cool is that? With all of that said, I was pretty excited to arrive at the Fillmore the night of the event.

Fillmore

The Somerset Collection has created a series of short films, one of which was debuted prior to the fashion show. The way this was shot was amazing. On the website, it mentioned that this was for Fall 2014 and it looks like they have a new one for this fall.

Here are a few of my favorite looks from the runway:

The Herve Leger Fringe Gown was so chic! You can find it here for $1,790.

I also loved this strapless top. I don’t know if I could pull off the leather leggings, but the top I could definitely see myself in. It’s Escada and you can find it here for $1,995. Feel free to send your Neiman Marcus gift cards my way, lol!

I ran into some fabulous blogger friends including Shannon from Glamorous Moms:

HOUR

I also had to snap a selfie when I got home because I was obsessed with my new Velour lashes and didn’t want to take them off.

Velour

My biggest take away from reading all of the winner profiles were their style tips. Fashion helps them to express themselves and I really want to work on my personal style in the upcoming year. What do I want my clothes to say about me?

I would love to hear what “Best Dressed” means to you!

Scandal “Yes” Recap

This episode kicked off with Sally (Kate Burton) dropping the affair bomb to the public with photographic proof this time! Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) rushes down to the Oval Office to confront Abby (Darby Stanchfield) and Elizabeth (Portia de Rossi) about what has happened. He is stuck on how the photos were leaked, but it’s too late for that, that pictures are already out there. I liked Elizabeth’s black and white blouse and found this similar Brigitte Bailey Abbey Blouse ($35.99):

Elizabeth North

So what does Olivia (Kerry Washington) do with this? She runs away to a new case and avoids dealing with the situation. The President decides that he isn’t going to make a statement without Liv so they just stay in a holding pattern letting the media speculate their relationship. Olivia is on the run, on a new case and ends up borrowing Quinn’s (Katie Lowes) clothes. She wore a Free People Hooded Faux Leather Moto Jacket ($168):

Free People

Huck (Guillermo Diaz) comes back with Jake’s (Scott Foley) help, but Quinn doesn’t believe that he’s really reformed and tries to push his buttons. Meanwhile, Abby is getting tired of saying nothing during the press briefings and with a little push from Cyrus (Jeff Perry) she decides to take matters into her own hands. Elizabeth is not too happy with this and tries to set her straight, but she can’t handle the President any more than Abby can. Elizabeth wore an Alexander McQueen Pussy Bow Blouse ($1045). I liked this similar Vince Camuto Ruffle Hem Tie Neck Blouse ($89) to recreate the look:

Alexander McQueen pussy bow

Abby, with David’s (Joshua Malina) help, that Elizabeth is the one who leaked the photos to get back at Mellie and Abby demands that they be equals in order for her to keep that secret. Fitz takes Abby’s advice and apologizes to Mellie and they prepare to do a sit down interview. That is until Olivia drops a bomb of her own.

This episode was so confusing, I don’t understand why she won’t just be with Jake, she obviously has feelings for him. I was blown away at the ending. I can’t believe Olivia admitted being Fitz’s mistress that way! What did you think?

If you missed it, you can still watch it here.
