March 2016 Pinspired

I used to participate in a fun linkup called Pinspired, where you recreate a look you found on Pinterest. This was one of my favorite monthly posts to write so I decided that I would start it up again. Here is a fun look I found on Pinterest that I would love to wear for spring. Now don’t get me wrong, I definitely wouldn’t wear a crop top to work, but I definitely loved the pop of color and kept coming back to this image. Here is the original Pin.

Fashion 101

I found a similar style skirt first that I will use to style the rest of the outfit around. Because this skirt has a few colors, we could change up the top to create a few different looks. The skirt I found is a Pencil Skirt from Charter Club for $59.50:

Charter Club Skirt

I found two different color blouses to compliment this skirt, so you decide which color is your favorite. Or get both for a completely different look. The first is this Vince Camuto Wrap Front V-Neck Blouse in Guava Fruit ($79) and the second is this Target Women’s Short Sleeve V-Neck Blouse in Bright Purple ($44.99):

Blouse

Next up are the bags. I also wanted to have fun with the colors on this, figuring you could mix it up. I found this Valentino Bag in Violet ($299.99) and this Kate Spade Cedar Street – Maise Satchel in Flo Geranium ($223.50):

satchels

For the shoes, I found these fun Nine West Sweet as Pie T-Strap Sandals ($89):

PG.SWEETASPIEX5.JJ158A1.PZ

I felt like I also needed to add a pump style shoe since I would probably wear this outfit to work and strappy sandals aren’t really work appropriate. I like these Nine West Tornaydo Pointy Toe Pumps ($89):

PG.NWTORNAYDO.JJ3JESY.PZ

I am thrilled with this look! I can’t wait to get all the pieces and rock this look in the office. I absolutely LOVE the bright colors.

Five on Friday: Green Edition

I figured I would have a little fun with today’s post and share some green pieces in case you want to add a pop of color to your wardrobe this St. Patrick’s Day. Here are a few items you could wear on Thursday or any day:

1. Kate Spade Small Square Studs ($38)

These are one of my favorites, I already have them in five different colors but not green!

kate spade studs

2. Tahari ASL Inverted -Collar Blazer ($71.99)

My boss has a green blazer and the pop of color always looks so great. I liked this version because I hate buttoning my jacket and I love the sleeve length.

Tahari Blazer

3. Nine West Qtpie ($89)

I love having crazy shoes in different colors because I wear a lot of black. Shoes make it easy to change up your look.

Nine West

4. Eliza J Pintucked Waist Seamed Ponte Knit Fit & Flare Dress ($98)

I’ve mentioned this dress before because I love the fit and flare! It’s a great piece for work.

Eliza J

5. Urban Expressions Lizzie Envelope Clutch ($29.97)

If all else fails, throw in a green clutch and you are good to hit the bars and try some green beer.

What green pieces will you rock this St. Patrick’s Day?

Bachelor 20 – Week 6 Recap

We pick up where we left off from last week with the Rose Ceremony. Olivia is saved for another week, but Jennifer is sent home. Ben then announces that they are traveling to the Bahamas.

This week there will be a one-on-one date, a group date, and a two-on-one date (yikes!). Becca reads the first date card announcing that Caila will get the one-on-one date. Becca wore the Show Me Your Mumu Rocky Romper ($146):

Show Me Your Mumu Rocky Romper

Emily and Olivia end up getting the dreaded two-on-one date and now we can clearly see that everything has been leading up to this moment. In her ITM, Emily wore a Hello Molly Adam and Eve Romper ($55):

Hello Molly

Aside from being annoying (because crying will absolutely get you a rose), Leah wore a cool looking crochet bathing suit on the group date. This Acacia Panama Top ($115) is similar.

Becca wore a Show Me Your Mumu Peta Tunic – Aztec ($124):

Show Me Your Mumu Peta Tunic

After the awkward group date, the girls regrouped for a more awkward evening date. Amanda wore the For Love and Lemons Precioso Mini Dress ($194). They also have a version with sleeves in this San Marcos Mini Dress ($194):

For Love and Lemons

Becca gets her alone time and Ben is concerned that Becca shut down on the group date. Becca wore the Jumbo Cairo Ear Jackets from Bauble Bar ($32):

Bauble Bar

Leah knows her number is up this week and she decides to waste her time trying to damage Ben’s relationship with Lauren. Just a tip Leah, Ben was always going to pick Lauren over you. Lauren wore the sold out Saturday Night Romper from Lucy Paris and Steve Madden’s PLMBEACH Wedges ($99.95). ASTR’s Lace Trim Romper ($76) is similar:

Saturday Night Romper

JoJo looks great as always in a sold out Chellah Set from Sabo Skirt. This Grey Sleeveless Crochet Lace Maxi Dress from Romwe ($27.49) gives you a similar look in that great color:

Sabo Skirt

Leah’s plan backfired on her and Ben sent her home. Good riddance, she obviously couldn’t handle it. This leads us to our two-on-one date with Emily and Olivia. Emily wore the Bikini Lab Women’s Fringe Ferdinand Bralette ($29.95):

Fringe Top

The two-on-one date was brutal, with Olivia being sent home after she was so confident she was going to be the last one standing. All the girls were insecure leading up to the rose ceremony as it was unclear who Ben was going to send home this week.

JoJo wore the sold out Muse Maxi Dress from Sabo Skirt. This Nemidor Crochet Top Grey Maxi Long Lace Dress ($22.49) is similar:

Sabo Maxi

In the end, Ben sent home Lauren H. our Michigan girl. She was classy the whole time through, I hope we see her again soon!

Five on Friday: Graphic Tees

I have a love affair with graphic tees. I think they are so fun and a great way to express your personality. They are the perfect thing to wear to brunch with the girls. Here are a few of my favorite graphic tees at the moment:

1. Mimosas Made Me Do It ($29.95)

I am becoming obsessed with Prep Obsessed. They have the cutest stuff! This shirt inspired today’s post and I have the perfect necklace to wear with it.

2. Time to Drink Champagne ($29)

I LOVE this one! It’s from Posh Boutique, which I’ve mentioned before.

3. Baseball Legends ($46)

4. Detroit Hustles Harder ($25)

Combat Your Winter Skin with Meijer Beauty

Disclosure: I received sample products and a gift card from Meijer in exchange for this post. All opinions expressed are my own.

It’s winter here in Michigan and that brings along a multitude of skin problems, chapped lips, cracked heels, dry/chapped hands (from all the hand washing), scaly legs, need I go on? What’s a girl to do in these conditions?

Today, I’m going to share a few tips and products that will help keep your skin looking fresh and moisturized during the cold winter months. The biggest tip is to simply drink water. I talked about my water drinking struggles in this post and it is something I’m still working at. Even if you have the best moisturizer in the world, your body can’t maintain or absorb the moisture you give it through lotion if it is dehydrated. It’s like trying to fill up a cup with a hole in it. No matter how many times you fill it, the water will keep flowing out of the whole. So in order for any of the products that I’m going to share with you to work, you have to start out by hydrating yourself with good old H20.

drink water

Problem 1: Chapped Hands

Most of us wash our hands more during cold and flu season which contributes to dry and chapped hands. Being out in the cold weather without gloves amplifies this problem. One year, John came home with severely chapped hands, his knuckles were in bad shape from the cold weather because he refused to put on lotion. For him, I needed a one-time miracle treatment that could fix him up with one overnight application (because that’s all I was going to get). This CeraVe Healing Ointment is a great solution for this problem. From a preventative standpoint, always apply lotion to your hands after washing to help them stay soft and hydrated. Check out their website for a $2.00 coupon to bring in to your local Meijer.

Problem 2: Cracked Heels

As I’ve mentioned before, I have a problem drinking water and that is a key problem when you are trying to combat cracked heels. This year, they aren’t bad because I have upped my water intake, but I still go for bi-weekly pedicures to keep them in shape. In the interim, I need a solution to keep my heels in check. Enter the CeraVe Renewing SA Foot Cream. I like to rub it on my feet before bed and cover them in socks. That way, they can heal your heels while you sleep.

Cerave Foot Cream

Problem 3: Eczema

Eczema can affect any of us at anytime. Some of us have it worse than others. While I’ve only had minor touches of eczema here and there, I know people who have been severely affected by it. This CeraVe Eczema Soothing Body Wash can help sooth what is commonly known as “winter itch.”

Cerave Eczema Soothing Body Wash

Problem 4: Scaly Skin

I was with a friend the other day and she was complaining about how her legs get so scaly in the winter. I’ve never had a problem with this and I think I know why. I shave my legs every day. I think that the constant exfoliation makes my skin more open to accepting the moisture I put on it after I shower. Now I know most women don’t do this so if you need help with scaly legs you might try Eucerin Original Healing Lotion. Make sure to slather it on after you shower to really lock in that moisture. On a side note, I am strikingly pale.

How do you keep your skin hydrated in winter?

Bachelor 20 – Week 5 Recap

It’s week five, and as Ben reminds us we are at the halfway point. Even without reading the spoilers we can definitely see Ben falling for a few of these ladies. Amanda gets the first one-on-one date in Mexico City. Ben wakes up the girls from a dead sleep and Amanda wakes up looking perfect, she obviously had a heads up to get ready in advance. My hair doesn’t look that good normally. Amanda wore a sold out Off-The-Shoulder Gaze Top. This H.I.P. Off The Shoulder Women’s Peasant Top ($19.99) is similar:

On the evening portion of the date, Amanda got a rose from Ben and she wore the same for For Love & Lemons Noir Mini Dress ($224) that Leah wore at the rose ceremony last week.

On the group date, Becca wore the Show Me Your Mumu Country Garden Romper (sold out). This ELAN Floral Romper ($69) is similar:

Jennifer wore the sold out Amanda Uprichard Perry Maxi Dress. I found this similar Sugarlips Hot to Trot Dress ($59) to recreate the look:

Amanda wore the sold out Stone Cold Fox Iowa Dress. This similar Bonita Dress ($308) from Stone Cold Fox is a great match:

Lauren B. wore an Eyes of Simone Jasmine Crochet Dress ($78).

This week ended on a cliffhanger, with Ben pulling Olivia aside to chat before the rose ceremony and we are left to wait until the following week to find out who goes home.

Jubilee was sent home during the group date, well to be fair she pretty much eliminated herself by pulling back from Ben.

In the deleted scenes this week, the ladies find out that they are headed to Mexico City:

2016 Capsule Collection Part 1

I thought about writing a post about wardrobe staples for a while and it was just a few days ago that I discovered this concept actually had a name. A capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can be augmented with seasonal pieces. The term was coined by Susie Fauz in the 1970s, who owned a London boutique called Wardrobe.

I figured I would share with you my personal capsule collection for 2016. Some of these are pieces that I aspire to have and that would make wonderful additions to my wardrobe. I love investing in timeless pieces and a capsule collection is the perfect way to really think about what pieces you are missing and need to invest in. I am working on a second edition with my accessory goals. Here are the top pieces in my 2016 capsule collection:

1. Tory Burch Simone Cardigan ($225)

I first saw this piece on a friend of mine and fell in love. Every woman needs a black cardigan – it is versatile over a dress, tank or with jeans. The gold buttons on this piece dress it up. I am in desperate need of a new one for my wardrobe and think this would be a great investment piece.

Simone Cardigan

2. The Ashton Blouse ($34.96)

The Limited has great classic pieces. A white silk blouse is a must have. I will say that these blouses are sometimes difficult to keep in pristine condition. They snag or get random stains, so this price point is perfect because you can just replace it.

Ashton Blouse

3. Ralph Lauren Cap-Sleeve Jersey Dress ($89.98)

You should always have a little black dress on hand for any occasion. I purchased this one last year and it is perfect to dress up or dress down. You could throw a blazer or sweater on it for something more casual or you could dress it up with sparkly jewelry for a wedding.

Ralph Lauren black dress4. Calvin Klein One-Button Blazer ($139.50)

A black blazer is similar to a cardigan. If you work in a professional setting it can take you from casual Friday to meeting in a flash. It also allows you to wear all those sleeveless dresses to work. I probably need about five more to add to my closet. I like the cut of this one because I could wear a cowl neck blouse with it or a statement necklace.

Calvin Klein

5. Cowl Neck Top ($148)

This top could go with any of the above pieces. I love these blouses with a suit because I hate wearing a long-sleeve blouse under a blazer.

Cowl Neck

6. Calvin Klein Trench Coat ($129.90)

I love this trench. It comes in black, tan and blue and I could see myself getting one in every color.

Calvin Klein Trench

7. Kasper Cascade Skirt ($58.99)

Instead of a simple pencil skirt, I liked how this was a little different with the ruffle.

Kasper Cascade Skirt

8. Pop of Color Dress ($89.98)

I can’t say enough about this Ralph Lauren dress. I have this in three different colors I love it so much. Everyone usually says to get a wrap dress, but this is seriously the most flattering dress ever. I like to stalk it on eBay for different colors. I do have it in this green color as well as blue and a pattern. It has a lining on the inside so it looks really clean and hides a multitude of flaws.

Ralph Lauren Green Dress

9. Moto Jacket ($117.99)

I have been dying for a moto jacket for a long time. It really takes a Friday night look from good to great!

Moto Jacket

10. JCrew Cashmere Sweater ($188)

Cashmere is classic and this JCrew version comes in every color. I am jamming on the bright blue color at the moment.

Cashmere Sweater

11. Modern Boot Pants ($59.95)

These are my go-to work pants. I have them in every color. I do need to get them hemmed.

Modern Boot Pant

12. Jersey Maxi Dress ($68)

As soon as it warms up I pretty much live in my black maxi dress. So much so that I definitely need a back up or one in every color. The key is to make sure it is a mixed material, I don’t want a straight cotton dress. It is worth it to hem it if it is too long if you like the fit.

Jersey Maxi

13. Perfect Boot Jeans ($69.95)

I love the Gap for pants. These are my favorite jeans and you can never have enough in all colors!

Perfect Boot Jeans

14. Gold Collar Halter Top ($34.50)

Every girl needs a go-to top for a girl’s night out. I love the simplicity of this one.

Gold Halter Top

15. Silk Pajamas ($94.80)

You can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep and these Nordstrom silk pajamas are luxurious at a great price!

Silk Pajamas

I will probably add to this list as I think of other staples that are must-haves this year. I would also love to know if you have any suggestions.

Bachelor 20 – Week 4 Recap

This week Ben and the bachelorettes head to Las Vegas, the marriage capital of the world.

On the way there, I loved Jennifer’s Champagne Por Favor shirt from Chaser ($66):

Chaser

JoJo scores the one-on-one date with Ben and wore the Dixie Lace Catsuit from Nightcap ($166.10). Nightcap makes a similar version in this Heidi Wallflower Lace Jumpsuit ($98.78).

On the group date, Emily wore a sold out dip dye sweater from LA Hearts. I found a similar Calvin Klein Women’s Ombre Cowl Neck Sweater ($89.50):

LAHearts

Amanda wore the sold out Ecote Zoe Sequin Mesh Rocker Jacket. I found this similar Bongo Sequin Cardigan ($44.40) to recreate her look:

Urban Outfitters

Olivia was a disaster on the group date and instead of just owning her awkward performance, she fell apart. It was totally out of character for her and the reason it was such a topic this week. On the evening portion of the group date, she wore a cute romper, that she should have rocked…instead she just came off as insecure. This Rebel’s Market Long Sleeved Jumpsuit ($28.99) is similar:

Rebel's Market

During their one-on-one time, Haley came over to steal Ben and Olivia finally got to see what the other girls felt like. Haley wore a sold out Topshop Pleated Faux-Leather Skater Party Cut-Out Mini Dress and turquoise Kendra Scott Elle Drop Earrings ($55).  This Charlotte Russe Faux Leather & Scuba Knit Skater Dress ($9.99) is similar:

TopShop

During Emily’s time with Ben, Olivia decided that she didn’t like how she left her conversation and interrupted Emily. Emily looked fantastic in a sold out blue lace dress and Kendra Scott’s Danielle Earrings ($60). This Tadashi Shoji Embroidered Lace Sheath Dress ($238) is a great match:

Tadashi Shoji

Becca had the next one-on-one date and Ben decided to take her to the chapel, literally in a wedding gown. Of course they didn’t get married, but they got to help marry other people. Becca wore a sold out Show Me Your Mumu Fannie Flow Dress. I found this similar Freesia Dress ($178):

Show Me Your Mumu

At the rose ceremony Caila wore a Dress the Population  Zoe Sequin V-Neck Body-Con Dress ($198):

Dress the Population Zoe

JoJo looked fantastic in her Nookie Bridget Bustier Dress ($148.22). I found this similar Minty Meets Munt Enough Said Dress ($43):

Nookie

Leah wore a For Love & Lemons Noir Mini Dress ($224) which has also been seen on Paris Hilton:

Love and LemonsThis week Ben sent home Haley on the twin-on-one date. Then during the rose ceremony he sent home Amber and Rachel.

Here are the deleted scenes for the week:

Five on Friday: All that Glitters is Gold

I’ve been in the market for a new gold clutch as my current one is way too small for an evening out. I found the perfect one and it inspired me to do a post around my recent gold favorites. I used to only wear silver and gold has really been making a comeback in my wardrobe.

1. Michael Kors Daria Foldover Clutch ($198)

This is the clutch – it’s so cute and would definitely fit my phone.

2. Gold Plated Tassel Earrings ($24)

I love these tassel earrings made by my friend Rana from Salame Jewelry Designs.

Gold tassel earrings

3. Kendra Scott Erica Bracelet ($75)

I LOVE this bracelet. It is so elegant.

Kendra Scott Erica

4. Badgley Mischka Alter II Pump ($158.98)

I love Badgley Mischka shoes (I wore them for my wedding) and these are the perfect dressy gold pumps.

5. Pineapple Pearl Pop Studs ($19.95)

I LOVE these! I love pineapple stuff and these are just the perfect mix of elegant and fun.

Splurge vs. Steal: Aquazzura Wild Thing Fringe Sandals

On this edition of Splurge vs. Steal, I’m going to share my find for the Aquazzura Wild Thing Fringe Sandals. Aquazzura was created by Edgardo Osorio in 2011. He was only 25 years old when he created the luxury line (WOW!). The Wild Thing sandals were first debuted in the Spring/Summer 2015 collection and have since taken off seen on Khloe Kardashian, Solange Knowles and Eva Longoria as well as numerous bloggers and fashion influencers.

Aquazzura Collage

The Aquazzura Wild Thing Sandals are available for ($785) and have recently come back on the market after being sold out this past summer. I recently stumbled across these Ivanka Trump Hettie High Heel Sandals for $145, which inspired this post. I feel like these are really fun and would be great for a night out on the town, Las Vegas, or a bachelorette party.

Aquazzura Wild Thing Sandals final

You can also get these in red or nude as the Aquazurras have a number of different colors. I could see myself getting the red or black ones myself.

Do you have a splurge that you want me to find a steal for? Let me know in the comments. Or let me know if you find another steal for the Aquazzura Wild Thing Fringe Sandals.
