Beauty Commandments with Meijer Beauty

Disclosure: I received sample products and a gift card from Meijer in exchange for this post. All opinions expressed are my own.

Meijer just sent me some fantastic loot to try out and it got me thinking about a few of my beauty routines. We all have those things that we know we should do, but half the time we forget, or don’t have time, or are just lazy. I thought I would take this opportunity to share some of my beauty commandments and this year actually stick to them.  Some of these I am better at than others, but I will tell you that I am never sorry about doing them.

Always Take Off Your Makeup

I would like to say that I wash my face every night and do my full 5-step beauty routine. I should…but I don’t. The one thing I am consistent about is always taking off my makeup. Without fail I always use a facial wipe to remove my makeup and clean my face before bed. If you have ever gone on a trip with me or stayed the night at my house, I will offer you one too. These facial wipes from Yesto are perfect for sensitive skin with the cucumber or for problem skin with the tomato.

Have a Foot Routine

This sounds funny, but it’s necessary. I get bi-monthly pedicures but I still have cracked heels. This is why I need to be better about my nightly foot routine. Always slather on your foot cream before bed and then put socks on your feet. You will see a difference after just one night! Click here to check out my recommendation for a good foot cream. You should also be using the Amope in between pedicures to keep the dead skin to a minimum.

Treat Yo’ Self with a Face Mask

You should be a using a face mask at least once per week. Why is this so hard? It can be 10-30 minutes depending on the mask, but I’m not doing it as consistently as I should be. I have so many masks that I could probably use a different one for every day in the month (there’s a blog post idea), but I’m really digging these L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks. They are great at pulling out impurities and clearing out your pores. Every week I try to use my Biore porestrips, do my at home microdermabrasion, and then put on a mask. It’s like going to the spa – I don’t know why I’m not trying to sneak it in every day!

Moisturize!

I am great at this one. After my daily shower, I always use a good moisturizer. Check out this post for a few suggestions. It’s best to apply lotion after you shower and your pores are open. It helps lock in the moisturizer for the whole day.

Brush and Floss

I’m a stickler for this one. My best feature is my smile, so it’s important to have good dental health. You can also perk up that smile with a little help from the Colgate Optic White system. Especially with all that red wine you had the night before (who me?).

If you need an extra whitening boost, you can also try out these Crest Whitestrips. I would save them for a special occasion, like before a big event or when you are going to be photographed.

Wash Your Makeup Brushes

I’m the worst at this, but washing your brushes once a week will help prevent acne, infections and will extend the life of your brush. It also will help reduce the amount of facial oils that get into your shadows, blushes, and powders. This would actually be the perfect thing to do while you’re waiting on that face mask to dry.

Protect Yourself

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! The sun is your worst enemy in the fight against aging. You should be applying sunscreen to your face (preferably everywhere that sees the light) every day before you add your foundation. This will help prevent sun damage and reduce age spots, wrinkles, and maybe even skin cancer. Don’t forget to apply it to your hands and décolletage as well!

Discard Your Mascara Every Three Months

If you are trying to remember when you opened that last tube then throw it out right now because it’s probably too old. This one baffles me because mascara is probably one of the least expensive products out there but we keep it FOREVER. I try to track mine by quarters so I know that on April 1, it’s time for a new tube.

 Condition Your Hair

Let’s be honest…our hair takes a beating. From daily washes, to hairdryers, to curling irons and bleach it’s no wonder that our hair gives us split ends and breakage. A weekly hair mask is a must – it can help repair some of that damage. Now, your hair is dead so it’s not like its miraculously going to recover or repair itself, but a moisturizing hair mask can act as a band-aid for those split ends until you decide to trim them. The first one is the L’Oreal Everpure Repair Remedy Balm to restore strength and brilliance. Then there is this Extraordinary Clay Pre-Shampoo Mask that is for oily roots (me, me, me!) and you use this one before you shampoo to absorb oils and impurities on the scalp.

Hydrate

This is the hardest one for me because I’m terrible at drinking water, but it makes such a difference in your skin. The elasticity, plumpness, redness and irritation are all affected by how much water you take in.

For one special reader, I’m giving away the Colgate Optic White toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash, along with 3 boxes of Crest Whitestrips. Enter the giveaway below to get in the running for a pearly white smile:

Bachelor 21 – Week 8

Nick ends the trip in Bimini by giving all the women roses to take them to hometown dates. First up is Raven in Hoxie, Arkansas. During the date, Raven finds out her dad is cancer free, which makes for a special moment. Nick mentions that their relationship is moving the fastest and I think that’s a pretty good sign that he’s into her. They went mud-bogging, so no exciting fashion to show on that date.

Next up is Dallas, Texas where Nick meets Rachel’s family. Rachel wore a fabulous Off White Cold Shoulder Tuxedo Jacket from Love Culture (sold out). If you take a closer look, you’ll notice that this is a cold shoulder vest, but she doesn’t put her arms in the “sleeves.” This 1. STATE Collarless Open Front Long Vest ($119) is similar:

She is also sporting the Stella and Dot Signature Engravable Bar Necklace ($59):

Corinne’s hometown date was interesting, I suspect that the shopping spree was producer funded. I think Corinne really thought she had something, but the writing is on the wall, this was essentially her first one-on-one date.

On to Canada for Vanessa’s hometown. The chemistry between these two is electric. Vanessa wore a cool wool and leather coat which is sold out from Zara. I found this Belle by Badgley Mischka Solid Long Sleeve Coat ($99.97) and this Vera Wang Taylor Wool-Blend Coat ($175.99) to recreate the look:

Vanessa is such a gem, you can really see her heart in this episode. Not to mention she is beautiful. She wore a sold out fur vest from Zara and these great leather pants with zippers on them. To recreate the look I found this Faux Fur Vest from Chadwicks ($59.99) and Scuba Hip Zip Leggings from Express ($35.94):

Now Nick has to decide between his ladies…Corinne thinks she is a shoo-in based on their hometown date. As she is contemplating from the balcony she wore a great sold out Bebe Faux Fur Ombre Coat. I found this similar Super Star Dip Dyed Faux Fur Coat ($67.92) if you want the look for yourself:

And cue to next week, where Andi Dorfman pops back into Nicks life…

Five on Friday: Water Bottles

One of my goals this year was to drink more water. I know, I know, that was my goal last year. But last year I didn’t have any of these adorable water bottles which makes all the difference! I do find that not being able to see how much water I have left does make me drink more as weird as it sounds. If you’ve seen any cute ones let me know so I can add them to my collection!

1. NAMA STAY OUT LATE ($19.50)

This one started it all! I bought this at Bath & Body Works and was in love at first sight. They have other ones too (which I may also have to go back and get) but I couldn’t leave without this one.

2. This Might Be Wine ($21)

I was served this adorable water bottle in an Instagram ad and had to make it mine. LivLuvShop has really cute stuff and I’m sure I’ll be ordering again in the future.

3. Lilly Pulitzer for Starbucks

I called a number of stores trying to get one of these limited edition water bottles, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. These will be available online on February 28, so be prepared. There are four different fun designs.

4. Sip Happens ($9.98)

LOVE the colors and the saying on this one and it’s a great price.

5. Monogrammed ($34.99)

These are just pretty and fun! I would love to have a personalized one!

Which ones are your favorites?

Bachelor 21 – Week 7

So last week Nick left us with a pretty dramatic freak out, but don’t worry, after a chat with Chris Harrison he is all better. Now he can take the girls to Bimini, which I looked up so I could tell you that it is in the Bahamas. I had never even heard of it before. The girls seemed pretty excited about going there though. Vanessa got her second one-on-one date much to Corinne’s chagrin who hasn’t had a one-on-one. Vanessa wore a sold out Fringe Happy Together Blue Lace Strapless Romper. This Lovers + Friends Henna Romper ($53.40) is similar:

Vanessa is smokin hot in her evening look – no wonder Nick is smitten with her. She told Nick that she was in love with him and his response was really weird. I’m not sure where this leaves them. Vanessa wore the Lucy Slinky Knot Gather Detail Midi Dress ($30):

On the group date, Corinne tries to get Nick’s attention right off the bat by stripping down to her bikini. Kristina called her bluff and it appeared that Nick only had eyes for her. Kristina wore a Crochet Fringe Sweater Tank ($25) which made for a really cute cover up:

During the evening portion of the date Kristina wore a sold out ASTR black romper and a great double layer pendant necklace. To recreate the look I found this La Blanca Crocheted-Trim Long-Sleeve Romper Coverup ($95) and Stella and Dot Aria Pendant Necklace ($98):

We see Raven again in a Week 3 look, the sold out Stylestalker Sofala Midi Dress. This J.O.A. Scalloped Lace Midi Dress ($99) is similar:

It must have been her lucky dress, because Raven got the group date rose and a guaranteed hometown date. Danielle gets the next one-on-one date and just as it seems to be progressing nicely, Nick sends her home. She wore a sold out Nasty Gal Romper, but this Lace-Trim Surplice Romper ($32.99) is similar.

At this point Corinne has had it. She’s received no attention from Nick so she decides to put it all on the line and visit Nick in his room to “show” him how she feels. She wore a sold out Zara blouse, leather pants, Louboutins and her platinum vagine to pull out all the stops. You can get this similar Vince Camuto Georgette & Jersey Faux Wrap Blouse ($74):

Rachel was pumped for her one-on-one date and they had a local, casual date hanging out in Bimini. Rachel wore a stylish double split front maxi skirt. I found this Slit Maxi Skirt from Love, Fire ($45) to recreate her look:

Before I wrap up, this was the week that Jimmy Kimmel announced Rachel as our next Bachelorette. You can watch the clip below:

Rachel wore a Cushnie Et Ochs Asymmetric Open-Side Cami Dress ($1,395.00). This Bec & Bridge Onyx Asymmetrical Dress ($108) is similar:

What do you think about Rachel as The Bachelorette?

Sport Turns Five!

Our baby is FIVE! On February 6, our baby Sport turned five years old! To celebrate I am sharing five of my favorite recent photos and some of the fun ways we celebrated.

Sport starting out with a Celebration Cake from Three Dog Bakery. We chose the peanut butter version this time and he loved it! You can refrigerate it for up to a week so we cut it up into a few pieces so he could have some all week.

Picture #2  – That lip just kills me – he definitely knows how to make us feel guilty about leaving for work.

On his birthday, we took Sport to doggie daycare and they sent him home with a birthday goody bag. He couldn’t wait to get home and check it out.

Picture #3 – This picture mostly cracks me up, because I have no idea how he is even on the couch! This was on Christmas Eve and we were pooped! He is really just a little cuddlebug most of the time and I love this picture because he never wants to leave my side.

On his birthday, we got Sport some refills for his chipmunk log from Zippy Paws. You can refill it with chipmunks and he has to dig them out of this log. It is really cute and he has fun playing with it.

Picture #4 – We didn’t even pose this – he was holding his favorite puppy love squeaky toy and I was able to snap this. His little teeth are so adorable!

We also got Sport a little squeaky “Dog Perignon” toy for his birthday, but he was too tired to finish it off after all the excitement.

Picture #5 – His face in this picture is the cutest! That little tongue!

Happy Birthday Sport! We love you!

50 Shades Darker

On Wednesday I had the opportunity to attend an advance screening of 50 Shades Darker with a few friends. The screening was a lot of fun; we all received masks similar to the one Anastasia wears to the Masquerade Ball and I made sure to get a big cup of wine because you definitely need it to watch this movie with a theater full of strangers.

If you haven’t read the books, I highly recommend that you read them before seeing this movie. They had to cram a lot into the run time and they left out a lot of the backstory. So if you didn’t already know Christian Grey’s story you might think he was crazy and possessive. One of the main things they left out was Christian’s therapist Dr. Flynn. Anastasia even gets to meet him and talk to him and he explains why Christian has a need to control everything. It does sound like he makes a cameo in the third movie, but he was definitely referenced multiple times in the second book.

Here are a few ways you can get your 50 Shades fix in case you want more:

1.Masquerade Mask ($15.90)

You can get the exact mask that Ana wears to the masquerade party and it’s affordable!

2. Ana’s Lipsticks

According to @evelynenoraz, the 50 Shades Darker makeup artist, “They were a liquid lipstick from Mac Cosmetics for the red ( plus Mac lip liner ) and from Anastasia for the deep berry color ( liquid lipstick as well ) or Glossier lipstain.”

Based on that statement here are my guesses for the exact shades:

MAC Cherry Lip Liner ($17.50)

MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Feels So Grand ($21)

ILIA Lipstick Arabian Nights ($26)

MAC Burgundy Lip Liner ($17.50)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Heathers ($20)

Glossier Generation G in Jam ($18)

3. Ana’s Eyes from the Masquerade

According to Evelyn, she used Dior’s Diorshow Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Lune and Millenium ($31/each).

4. Jimmy Choo Lang Patent Strappy Sandal ($795)

During that steamy dinner/elevator scene, Anastasia was wearing the Jimmy Choo Lang sandals.

If these are out of your price range, you can try the Pleaser brand shoes that are an exact match for only $52.95:

5. Anastasia’s Masquerade Dress

The dress Ana wore to the masquerade party was stunning. Custom designed by Monique Lhuillier and the 50 Shades Costume Designer, Shay Cunliffe, it is one of a kind! Women’s Wear Daily shared more details here on how this dress came about.

I found a few options for the dress and the beautiful feathered cape she wears. For the dress, Forever 21 has two different options with a Satin Maxi Dress ($34.90) and this Selfie Leslie Halter Neck Dress ($44.99):

I also found two options for the cape/jacket, the first is the Jayley Luxurious Stripe Faux Fur Jacket ($234) and the second is the SB Tipped Fur Jacket ($107.50):

6. 50 Shades Darker Prize Pack

I’m giving away a 50 Shades Darker Prize Pack complete with masks, tea lights, lip balm and a Large sweatshirt.

The winner will be announced on February 26. You can enter via the Rafflecopter below:

Bachelor 21 – Week 6

This is the two-on-one date that never ends! Taylor just won’t leave…

We head into the next rose ceremony and Nick ups the drama by cancelling the cocktail party. Now the women don’t know where they stand. Rachel is safe with a rose and she looks fabulous in a sold out Sherri Hill Beaded Two Piece Cocktail Dress. Sherri Hill makes a similar style for $518 here:

Danielle wore the Kendall Dress from SAU ($335). They also have a similar version in a different pattern here ($395).

At the rose ceremony Nick let Alexis, Jaimi, and Josephine go and then announced that the remaining women would be accompanying him to St. Thomas! Kristina got the first one-on-one date in St. Thomas and we really got to know her. I hope we see more of her in the future. She looked adorable in a sold out Flirting with Danger Cutout Ivory Dress from LuLu’s. This Jodi Kristopher Trim Inset Textured Knit Skater Dress ($69) is similar:

On the group date, Rachel wore a sold out Ecote Crinkle Square Kimono Jacket. This Women’s Kimono White Floral Merona ($26.99) is similar:

Vanessa was smokin hot in her Missguided Double Strap Crossover Bikini Set ($45). They have a similar style in more sizes with this Bandage Crossover Bikini Set ($54):

On the evening portion of the group date Danielle wore the Bardot Maxi Dress from Flynn Skye ($198). Her exact print is unavailable, but they have a ton of others to choose from:

Vanessa changed into the Sheeva Slinky Strappy Side Tie Maxi Dress ($25) which was a great evening beach look:

Nick sent Jasmine home during the group date after she had a crazy meltdown. Raven ended up getting the group date rose, saving herself for another week. Danielle and Whitney were selected for a second two-on-one date, unprecedented in Bachelor history. Danielle looked sweet in a ruffly romper. I found this Lovers and Friends Malia Ruffled Cold Shoulder Romper ($160) to recreate the look:

In a shocking move, Nick gets rid of them both. First Whitney goes home on the two-on-one and you think he is keeping Danielle but then he lets her go at dinner. I think he was really upset about Danielle since they had started to connect, so he went to the visit the remaining women and just sort of broke down. That was sort of weird, it was hard to understand what he was thinking in this moment. Nick is a sensitive soul, which is why I think women find him endearing.

Do you think Nick will find love on his journey this season?

Pantone’s Color of the Year: Greenery

Pantone has named “Greenery” the 2017 Color of the Year. Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that is symbolic of new beginnings. Think the great outdoors meets the first day of spring.

I loved this thought from Pantone “The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world.”

At first I wasn’t thrilled with this color, but I love the idea that enjoying it in fashion, home and beauty products should remind me to reconnect with nature, so I’m definitely digging it. Here are a few ways you can enjoy it:

Green Rectangular Lacquer Serving Tray ($24.99)

This tray is perfect to add a pop of color to any room. You can use it to serve or as a piece of decor.

Piñata Tassel Drops ($36)

These earrings are fabulous and the perfect addition to any outfit.

OPI My Gecko Does Tricks ($10)

This was the perfect match for Greenery, plus it also comes in the gel color to match which is a must have for me.

Alfani Faux-Leather Moto Jacket ($99.50)

This would be a great transition piece from winter to spring.

Aerosoles Branchlet Flip Flop Sandals ($59)

These would be adorable at the beach or during the summer months. They look comfortable!

Alfani Printed Halter Dress ($89.50)

When I saw this dress I couldn’t think of anything that embodied the spirit of Greenery more. This is such a different style than I would normally wear but I think it would look great.

Ray Ban Aviators ($175)

I can totally get on board with these beauties. I’ve been eyeing a pair of aviators for a while.

Zella Live In Slim Fit Leggings ($52)

These are my favorite yoga pants, so why not get them in green?

Kate Spade Leaves Large Notepad ($7.50)

I thought this was a fun notebook that would make you think about the outdoors.

Ralph Lauren Ruffled One-Piece Swimsuit ($120)

I love the ruffles on this!

Dooney & Bourke Leighton Tote ($170.99)

It took me a long time to find a green handbag that I liked. This one is the perfect size and shade.

Sleeveless Vee Neck Wrap Dress ($138)

I wasn’t going to add a second dress, but this is just stunning.

What are your favorite Greenery items for 2017?

You can also check out my post about the 2016 colors of the year, Rose Quartz & Serenity, 2015 color of the year, Marsala, and the 2014 color of the year, Radiant Orchid.

Bachelor 21 – Week 5

We pick up right where we left off, with Corrine vs. Taylor. Nick kept both of them through the rose ceremony so we could get a dramatic two-on-one date this week.

Sarah wore Kendra Scott’s Danielle earrings ($75). They are my fav, but they didn’t save her from going home. Astrid also got the boot.

Nick whisks the rest of the women off to New Orleans for the next step in their journey. I am a huge fan of Jaimi’s “Champagne Campaign” shirt and had been eyeing it long before this episode. This version is from Private Party ($52):

Rachel gets the one-one-one date and bonds with Nick. Love Rachel, but hated her outfit on this date. These two could not have been cuter together – it is rare to see a contestant that is so confident and sure of herself. Rachel received the rose and is safe.

We can’t say as much for Corinne and Taylor, who received the dreaded two-on-one date. But first, Nick takes the girls to a plantation and then the producers tried a little too hard to make it “haunted.” Insert eye roll here. Danielle M. received the group date rose.

Next up, the two-on-one where Corinne feeds Taylor to an alligator…okay maybe not, but it got ugly. Taylor can’t accept Nick’s rejection and pops up again during his dinner date with Corinne. We will have to wait and see what happens next week!

Are you Team Taylor or Team Corinne this week?

If you missed this episode you can still watch it here.

February 2017 Pinspired

For this month’s Pinspired, I thought I would create a fun Valentine’s Day look. The outfit below really stood out to me. I enjoy having pops of color mixed with neutrals for a fun and sexy Valentine’s Day look.

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/432134526720863712/

To get started, I LOVE this Off-The-Shoulder Jersey Dress from Ralph Lauren. You can find it here ($74.99) and here in more sizes in the Petite ($74.99).

I adore anything from Badgley Mischka and this Jenna Snap Back Cocoon Coat ($279.90) is no different.

To top off the look, these BCBGeneration Pretia Pumps ($49.95) are just icing on the cake.

All of these items together would make you the star of Valentine’s Dinner if you’re having one. I would love to see some looks in the comments below that you want me to tackle for the next Pinspired.

Also, let me know if you end up trying this month’s Pinspired look!
