Sport Turns Five!

Our baby is FIVE! On February 6, our baby Sport turned five years old! To celebrate I am sharing five of my favorite recent photos and some of the fun ways we celebrated.

Sport starting out with a Celebration Cake from Three Dog Bakery. We chose the peanut butter version this time and he loved it! You can refrigerate it for up to a week so we cut it up into a few pieces so he could have some all week.

Picture #2  – That lip just kills me – he definitely knows how to make us feel guilty about leaving for work.

On his birthday, we took Sport to doggie daycare and they sent him home with a birthday goody bag. He couldn’t wait to get home and check it out.

Picture #3 – This picture mostly cracks me up, because I have no idea how he is even on the couch! This was on Christmas Eve and we were pooped! He is really just a little cuddlebug most of the time and I love this picture because he never wants to leave my side.

On his birthday, we got Sport some refills for his chipmunk log from Zippy Paws. You can refill it with chipmunks and he has to dig them out of this log. It is really cute and he has fun playing with it.

Picture #4 – We didn’t even pose this – he was holding his favorite puppy love squeaky toy and I was able to snap this. His little teeth are so adorable!

We also got Sport a little squeaky “Dog Perignon” toy for his birthday, but he was too tired to finish it off after all the excitement.

Picture #5 – His face in this picture is the cutest! That little tongue!

Happy Birthday Sport! We love you!

Sport Sabourin: One Year Later

It’s been a year since we adopted our Cocker Spaniel, Sport and everyday with him has been a joy. We’ve had an amazing year and I wanted to share some of our favorite highlights along the way. From the day we brought him home, we fell in love with his sweet face. We blew this picture up and have it hanging in our bedroom.

Meet Sport

On Halloween, Sport couldn’t decide if he would rather have tricks or treats. This video cracks me up so I had to share:

Sport blends into our couch and I can’t tell you how many times one of us has walked through the living room and asked “Where’s Sport?” only to find him laying on the couch.

During Christmas he was such a hoot – I had purchased a few things for him to open on Christmas and put them in the guest room to wrap up. He knew there was something in there for him, so he sat outside the door.

In January, we discovered Sport’s super cute pouty lip:

Later that month, he was a trooper when he had to get his shots:

In February, Sport turned 4 and we celebrated with presents and a special doggie birthday cake:

One of his presents was a treat tower which he loves:

On Fat Tuesday, Sport enjoyed a donut and a Busy Bone:

On Valentine’s Day, Sport got his sloppy kisses and puppy love toys.

Since then puppy love has been Sport’s favorite toy. He carries it around like it’s his prized possession.

Most of the time Sport is very tired:

But he does love a car ride:

Sport loves his squeaker toys and carrying around the little squeakers (don’t worry, he doesn’t chew them, after stops the squeaking he likes to carry them around and hide them).

In any case, we can’t get enough of this face:

So for our one year anniversary, we’ve decided to treat our boy to his very own monthly BarkBox. I can’t wait to see what fun treats he gets each month. I’m planning to share each month’s box and link to his favorite treats and toys. If you would like to try one for yourself, you can click the link here and use the code “SPORT” to get a free Barkbox for your pup and Sport gets a free box added on to his account.

I’m creating a new Sport category on the blog, so if you would like to read more about our sweet little boy, click here.

Friday Favorites: Dog Edition

I introduced the newest member of our family, Sport, in a recent post here. But how could I resist showing you more adorable pictures of this cutie? I had to make this week’s five all about our new pup and the things he loves with some gratuitous pictures thrown in…

National Dog Day

1. Dog Bed ($59.99)

We were in Bed, Bath & Beyond buying pillows and stumbled across this dog bed. Naturally, I wanted to spoil my pup with his own bed and this one is comfy and cozy. Sport loves it and it is very soft.

2. Crate Set ($150-280)

I saw this on Pinterest and thought it would be perfect for Sport’s crate! Right now we have it in the living room and this crate set would really help it fit in. We also tried to put a blanket on the top of his crate to make it more cave like, but he just ended up pulling it all the way through, so something like this would probably be better.

3. Leash Rack ($42.95)

I loved this personalized leash rack for Sport. I already know exactly where to hang it.

4. Martha Stewart Dog Toys

Sport loves any toy with a squeaker, especially this squirrel from Martha Stewart Pets. We are on his second squirrel, but he also has the rabbit, duck and moose.

5. U of M Pet Collar ($8.99)

I picked mine up at Meijer for something different and Sport looks SO cute in it. His name is “Sport” so he definitely needs various sports themed collars.

I’ll leave you with one more adorable picture of Sport. He likes to lay/sleep hugging his back legs:

I would love to know what your must-have pet items you recommend.

Introducing Sport Sabourin

In case you missed my announcement on social media, John and I are expanding our family. Two weeks ago we adopted an adorable Cocker Spaniel named Sport.

Meet Sport

How did this all come about you ask? Well I was at work on a Wednesday, when I received a text from John saying “Can we keep him????” with the attached Facebook post:

Facebook Post

And then the conversation sort of went like this:

Me: “Oh he is really cute.”

John: “I want him.”

Me: Asking a number of questions about him, who was giving him up, etc.

John: “…I was only half serious.”

Me: “I’m not opposed. Is he potty trained? Well, we were going to each get one anyways so I’m not opposed.”

And after many more texts, he was ours.

John: “Ok. Let’s do this.”

Me: “He’s our boy, lol.”

That was a paraphrase, but I wanted to remember the highlights. As the conversation was happening, I was messaging with the owner to get more information and set up a time to meet Sport. Then we just decided to go for it and set up a time on the following Saturday to pick him up and take him home. My birthday was the day before and this made it the best one ever.

When we went to pick him up, we instantly fell in love with this sweet boy. We brought him home and spent the whole weekend spoiling him. On Monday, we started Sport in his new routine. For those of you who know me, you know that I am not a morning person, but I have been getting up at 5:30 a.m. every morning to take Sport on an hour walk. I think John is blown away that I have kept it up for two weeks already!

On Tuesday we took him to the groomer to get him cleaned up, which wasn’t his favorite thing, but I’m sure he felt a lot better:

We just love our little fur baby and we can’t stop photographing him:

Sport does have a little separation anxiety, but that is to be expected. We found out that we are Sport’s third owners. His first owners bought him as a puppy and only kept him for two weeks. Then he was with his last family for about three years until this past year when he was moved to a temporary situation. His world has been turned upside down and it sort of breaks my heart that he’s had so much upheaval. He is the sweetest little pup and I am so happy to say that he is in his forever home with us.

He’s been doing great since we brought him home and is settling into his new schedule. John and I couldn’t be happier to have him. We can’t imagine our lives without him and he is the perfect addition to our family.

This little guy just melts my heart. We are so lucky to have him in our family. Stay tuned for many more pictures of this handsome pup!
