The Book Was Better Book Club: Firefly Lane

Having just come off of our last book pick, A Simple Favor, I’m ready to switch gears back to a TV series. Firefly Lane on Netflix has already received a ton of hype so I thought it was the perfect selection for our next pick. The series stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke. From the synopsis, it sounds like this is a story of two lifelong friends over a period of 30 years – perfect for our book club!

If you haven’t participated in the club yet, make sure to join private Detroit Duchess Book Club Facebook Group, so you can get in on the discussion. If you don’t have Facebook, you can still participate – send me a message in the comments and I will make sure to reach out to you with details on how to join the live discussion on May 8th. The reading/watching schedule is below and you can move as quickly as you want to through it – just remember not to spoil past the schedule for anyone in the Facebook group.

I found the book on Amazon for $9.99 and you can get a basic Netflix plan for $8.99/month to watch the series. Here is a little preview for the Netflix series – it looks SO good!

I hope you will join the book club for Firefly Lane! If this isn’t your style, our next pick will be a movie, so let me know your ideas in the comments.

Unforgettable Movie Review

I had a lot of fun screening Unforgettable a few weeks back. Now that the movie is out, I wanted to share a few fashion finds. This movie is lots of fun for a girls night out and Katherine Heigl’s style is flawless. Say what you will about her character, Tessa’s, state of mind, but crazy looks good on her.

Heigl recently stepped out for the official red carpet premiere event and was definitely channeling Tessa in a Blumarine dress. I found this Lauren Ralph Lauren Metallic Mesh Gown ($210) to recreate the look.

During the movie, Julia (Rosario Dawson) tries on a beautiful v-neck white dress and then Tessa shows up to the opening of her ex-husband’s bar opening wearing the exact same dress! This Ivanka Trump Scuba Crepe Dress ($128) is similar:

During the riding scene, Katherine Heigl wore a pair of Mountain Horse Firenze zip dress boots ($119.99):

During the movie, there is a scene with Tessa and her daughter at her vanity and it reminded me of old Hollywood glam. I loved the robe and that vanity is to die for!

I found this Dalia Robe ($250) to get her look:

I loved all of Tessa’s sheath dresses throughout the movie, especially this grey one at the school. This Kasper V-Neck Sheath Dress ($49.99) is similar:

Will you see Unforgettable? I would love to hear what you thought!

Unforgettable Ladies Night Out

Ladies…have you ever been betrayed by the one you love? How would you handle it? In the new movie, UNFORGETTABLE, that’s what Katherine Heigl has to figure out.  Tessa Connover (Heigl) is getting over a divorce, when her ex-husband, David (Geoff Stults) becomes engaged to Julia Banks (Rosario Dawson). Julia has a troubled past, and Tessa tries to use that against her in order to get her family back. As you can see from this clip, Julia’s dream turns into her ultimate nightmare.

I thought we could have some fun with this one, so I’m hosting an Unforgettable Ladies Night Out for 20 lucky ladies to win a pair of seats to an advance screening of UNFORGETTABLE on Wednesday, April 12 at the MJR Troy Grand Digital Cinema 16. All attendees will receive a complimentary glass of house white or red, or domestic beer prior to show time. We are also encourage you to bring an item from your ex to “giveaway.”

If you would like to join me for an UNFORGETTABLE Ladies Night Out for you and a guest, leave a comment below and let me know what the most unforgettable thing and ex ever did to you/for you (it can be good or bad). Make sure your email is attached to your name when you comment and I will contact you with a link to the registration. Seating is limited, so I will update the post when the seats are filled.

UPDATE: All of the tickets have been given away, but I do have a waitlist going and if anything opens up I will open it up to people on the waitlist. If you would like to be on the waitlist you can continue to comment and I will send you the registration link.

Thank you to everyone who commented, I am overwhelmed by the response to this and will hopefully do more in the future!

I look forward to meeting everyone!
