Support Breast Cancer Awareness

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that I have a family history of breast cancer. My mom is a survivor and my grandmother was also a survivor. I haven’t had a mammogram yet, but I have had an ultrasound. On top of my family history, I have a little something called Fibrocystic Breast Disease which sounds scarier than it is. FBC basically means I have lumpy breasts and that hormonal changes can be responsible for frequent changes and lumps. It’s important that I get everything checked out, but usually if I notice something unusual it will go away within a week or so. Having an ultrasound clearly distinguishes between fluid-filled breast cysts and solid masses. If you have any questions, or think you might have FBC, make sure to talk to your doctor about it.

Anything I can do to support research and treatment in this area is important to me so I am sharing some of the fun products and companies that are helping to raise money for the cause this month.

GLAMGLOW BUBBLESHEET™ Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask – Breast Cancer Awareness Edition ($9)

I love a face mask and this bamboo charcoal-infused sheet mask uses Green Tea to purify your skin and create a tingling 3D bubble experience that detoxifies your skin. GLAMGLOW is donating 20% from the purchase price to support Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign through 12/31/18.

This particular necklace goes even further to help support a special retreat for 20 families battling metastatic breast cancer.

My fine, thin hair is very familiar with Bumble and Bumble’s Thickening Spray. I love it even more now that they donate 20% to BCRF.

Bekah Martinez for Jean Franklin Betty Scarf ($28)

Hooray for a Bachelor inspired piece for my list! Bekah Martinez teamed up with Jean Franklin to create this headscarf and a beautiful wrap dress to donate 50% of the purchase price to BCRF. I love to see Bachelor Nation using their popularity for good! You can read more on their collaboration in this article from Bustle.

Five on Friday: Back to School for Adults

I’ve seen a ton of back to school articles and posts about what to get your kids to go back to school, but I thought it would be fun to get a few “back to school” items for myself:

1.Ted Baker Magnolia Stripe Tote ($279)

Every kid needs a new backpack to start of the new year. As an adult, I am more interested in a work tote to carry my laptop and notebook to and from work every day. I just fell in love with this tote.

2. Erin Condren Life Planner ($60)

I love getting a fresh planner every year and my favorite planner over the last few years is Erin Condren’s Life Planner. I love the fun stickers and all of the organization opportunities.

3. Kate Spade Journal ($22)

I use a notepad every day at work and Kate Spade makes it all a little bit more fun.

4. Kate Spade All Occasion Card Set ($30)

One of my goals this year was to be better about sending birthday cards to my close friends. I also thought it would be great to have some on hand for last minute occasions. I loved the idea of this card set and would love to add additional cards to the box.

5. Louis Vuitton Business Card Holder ($350)

I loved the look of this business card holder. I had a silver Kate Spade holder, but it is SO scratched up now that I need a replacement.

Five on Friday: 2016 Favorites

Since we are at the end of the first month in the new year, I thought I would share some of the things that have been keeping me on track with my goals this month and just some of my general favorites:

1. Dream Dinners

John and I were terrible about meal prep in 2015 and I knew that January would be nuts for us, so I decided to enlist a little help. I tried out Dream Dinners and it has been amazing! You sign up online and select a list of meals that you want to create for the next 2-4 weeks. Then you visit your local Dream Dinners location and you get to make all of the meals into frozen dinners to serve at your convenience. This has been such a lifesaver for us this month. I will definitely be doing it again! If you are local and want to try it out, I get credit for bringing a friend.

The Southwest Pork Carnita Wraps are my favorite so far!

2. HydraFacial

I mentioned in my Christmas Wish List post that I wanted to get more Eminence Facials this year. After Christmas, I had a spa day with the girls and expected to get an Eminence Facial. Well I found out that MGM Detroit decided to discontinue using Eminence products because they had to be exclusive, so I ended up trying a HydraFacial instead. I had never heard of HydraFacial before or even knew that it was popular with celebrities like Beyonce, Kate Winslet, Amy Poehler, Kim Zolciak, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Paris Hilton, Whitney Port, Brittany Snow, and more! It was AMAZING! Seriously, the best facial I have ever had. I noticed immediate results and my skin continued to improve throughout the following week. I would love to start getting these once a month. I even found out that some dermatology offices do them at a lower cost than regular spas – definitely something to check out.

3. Erin Condren Life Planner

This is my third year using the Erin Condren Life Planner and I love it! I having been taking advantage of all the features this year and even got the meal planner insert. I love seeing my full calendar as opposed to an electronic daily calendar, so this helps me to stay organized.

4. The Dating Divas

Having fun with my husband is definitely on the list for 2016 and the Dating Divas help plan some fun dates and thoughtful ideas to connect with your hubby. They have everything from holidays to just because gifts and more. I love this one for a just because gift:

5. Plant Nanny

I’ve mentioned this before, but the Plant Nanny app has been helping me reach my water goals. This app is like a game and makes logging your water a fun task by growing a plant. It also reminds you in a real way that if you don’t water your plant it will die. I’ve only hit my daily water goal once so far, but in 2015 I probably only drank one glass of water a day if that. This app has pushed me up to an average of 3-4 glasses and sometimes more. I think that is a great achievement.

As you can see I need to drink more water today

3. Erin Condren Phi Sigma Sigma Planner

I have mentioned in the past how much I wanted to get an Eric Condren planner and I’m so glad I waited! I just found out that she does custom sorority items including her famous planner! I am a Phi Sigma Sigma and still very active as an alumna. This is just gorgeous and I can’t wait to get it!  There are also phone cases, notepads, clipboards and more! She does work for a few sororities, you can check to see if yours is on the list here.

4. Necessary Roughness Costume Liquidation

For those of you that watched Necessary Roughness this summer, I have some fun news for you. We are all sad that the show got cancelled, but I was recently contacted by the costume department and they are selling a lot of pieces from the show, some of them were even featured here on my blog. There are a lot more items to come, but the first piece is from Karissa Lee Staples character, Paloma. If you wear a 8.5 show, then you are in luck! The bid price is starting at $29.99, you can check it out here:

These are Screen used shoes worn by Karissa Lee Staples playing the character “Paloma” in the show Necessary Roughness. They are the JCrew Everly Pump. The black pad and rubber tip over the heel can easily be peeled off but they left it on to show you a little behind the scenes magic. These shoes would have caused too much noise walking around the set. This method of silencing the shoes is commonly done in Hollywood. These shoes cost the production $264.60. A certificate of authenticity is available upon request.

5. Sip Happens Party

I am excited to be part of the Sip Happens Party with Val from Chicken Scratch, Eva Marie Taylor and Erin from Living in Yellow. I have been collecting items for my party and have already purchased the wine. I send out my invitations this week and can’t wait to share everything with you. You can read more below and check out my Sip Happens Party post here.
